New to rails - apparently need patch to use PostgreSQL
Help please. My first attempt at Rails, I''m trying to use PostgreSQL and I''m seeing this error. I''m also new to PostgreSQL, but the default encoding in PostgreSQL appears to be SQL_ASCII. I''m not sure if I should try and get the patch or try and change the PostgreSQL template. Sorry I''m so confused. FWIW, I''ve been a .NET MSSQL developer

weird Windows profile creation
It seems weird. On 75% of my machines, it creates accounts as: c:\documents and settings\username on 25% of the machines, it creates them as: c:\docments and settings\username.DOMAINNAME These are fresh machines, so it's unclear to me where this behavior stems from. We're not using roaming profiles. Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens? thanks Chris

Rails on BSD
I had this problem too. After searching all day I found a solution. On BSD you need to have a converter installed. /usr/ports/converters/ruby-iconv/ sudo make install clean However, that did not solve the problem for me until I found this post: "Just change RUBY_DEFAULT_VER?= in /usr/ports/Mk/bsd.ruby.mk from 1.8 on 1.9." I removed the ruby-iconv and reinstalled it and problem is

file creation mode is not obeyed
Samba 3.0.26a OpenSuse 10.3 In samba.conf the default file creation mode is set to 775 (group write). This mode is not followed or established when a domain user creates a file. It is not group writable. -- Chris Christoph P. U. Kukulies

Slow listing of mapped drives in Explorer
We recently moved our Linux file servers from Debian Woody to Debian Etch (v4.0r3). We use the current stable Debian Samba package which is version 3.0.24. Since moving to this Samba version from 2.2.8a-0.1 we see that Windows clients are very slow to list the 5 network drives mapped by our domain login script in Explorer or "My Computer". It can take 10 seconds or so before the drives

Desktops for non-roaming profiles
Hi list, In my current organization, we aren't going to be using roaming profiles (for various reasons, it's not desired). I'm moving us from no domain controller to Samba as a PDC (with an OpenLDAP backend), and I'm trying to make the process as invisible as possible to the end users. Each XP user's local desktop exists at: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

Follow-up: strange issue with share mapping at logon
Hello all, I found a cause and a fix for this issue, and - he said shamefacedly - it's something I should have found much earlier: through some quirk of the process whereby we exported existing LDAP data from the old PDC and reformatted it to fit the new one, the sambaGroupMapping object class was deleted from the affected groups, and so they couldn't be used by Samba for checking

mac_int() does not call HMAC_CTX_init()
Last year I sent the email below describing a bug in openssh 5.6p1. I just noticed this bug still exists in 5.9p1. Probably my earlier email was treated as spam because it was in HTML format. -- Robert Dugal Team Lead SSL & PKI Group Certicom Corp.
