Samba 3.0.11 smbd hangs
Hi Guys,
I have experienced an issue when the smbd stops responding, and after cannot
kill the process, using SIGTERM or SIGKILL. A reboot cured the problem. I
had the same problem once again a couple of days later. I realised that both
times I had changed my smb.conf file directly, using vi, and shortly before
the hang occured. The changes to the file were very minor, and the two were

Password sync between W2k ADS and samba 2.2.x
Hi list,
is there any chance to synchronize passwords between
the smbpasswd of samba 2.2.x and the ADS of a win2000
server-system, but without using winbind ?
We don't want to use winbind, because with this we
have to change our running infrastructure of samba
from Samba-PDC with smbpasswd.
Does there exists for example a little tool that can
be run by crontab to sync the passwords ?
Hope

Problems with VFS Recycle on SLES9
Hi list,
I have running samba 3.0.9 on a SuSE Enterprise-Server 9 with Kernel 2.6.5. Samba works
very well but In have one problem while using the recycle vfs with samba:
when I save a file (with wordpad or editor ...) to the network-share, a 0 byte-file will
automaticly be saved to the trash-folder.
After removing the file from the network-share, the real file (>0 byte) will be stored

Re: Filelocking-Problem: Mars_NWE together with Samba
Hi there,
we've got the following problem, while Windows-Clients works with samba and a
DOS-Client connects over Mars_NWE to the same Linux-Server:
When the DOS-Client opens a file on the linux-server and the WinClient opens
the same file, and when both clients want to write the same file, the
windows-client gets an error and crashes.
We tried it only with the windows-clients and there

Win2K Domainlogin with PlainPasswords
Hi there,
is it, and how - possible to add an Win2K/XP Client to a Samba-Server (PDC)
without encrypted passwords ?
We have many of Win9x Clients they connect to the samba-server without using
the encrypt passwords = yes parameter in smb.conf.
So I want to add a Win2K and XP-Client to the net without changing the
smb.conf (encrypt passwords = no).

Calling a .bat to set environment variables and subsequent .exe execution from within R
Dear list,
I have found a thread dealing with similar problems with a Mac, but somehow
I cannot get it to work and the problem is slightly different:
I am using the shell() command to execute a program from within R. The
problem is that I need to execute SDKShell.bat file first that sets the
environment variables for the program ogr2ogr.exe:

I have the following in /etc/samba/smbfstab;
//msserver/share /mnt/smb-share cifs

Using 'mount -a' doesn't mount either.
If I use "smbmount /mnt/smb_dir" I get;

users can't write to a subset of mounted directories
Hello
I am connecting to an NT server via a Linux client. I am mounting the drive on
the client via the following in smbfstab:
//server/Users /home/dm215/Desktop/SambaBringover smbfs
username=user,password=pass,suid,uid=1000,gid=100,fmask=770,dmask=770,rw
It works fine except the local user uid=1000 cannot write to certain
directories. The initial directory (//server/Users) is writable by

Trouble mounting a windows share from Linux
I have Fedora Core 1 workstations configured with winbind logging onto our

how to connect to a windows home directory on a Win2000 server. Here is the
scenario:

Each user has modify permissions to their share
Administrator has full control
First off, I need to somehow
