Samba problem connecting
Installed Samba 3.0.10 via 'pkgadd' on Solaris 2.6 - previously running Samba 2.2.8. It starts up and SWAT confirms that it is running and I am using the same smb.conf but I am unable to connect to a share via PC. Message "\\s080 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access

Must you "net join" for the Samba machine to become a domain member?
Question: I want to setup a Samba server as a domain member, allowing Windows PC to map unix server directories, but having the authentication performed by our Windows Domain Controller(s). I'm basically following this example from the Samba docs: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba3-HOWTO/domain-member.html#id2538809 It appears to me that I must "net join" the domain from

ADS auth when primary AD server fails
Im having some trouble getting, or even finding out if this works. I have read through the samba by example and all the docs i can get my hands on and i cant get this to work. Maybe it isn't supposed too.... I have setup samba under RHEL4 QU1 to authenticate to AD. I am just using samba to authenticate users for login purposes. It works fine and dandy until my primary AD box goes down. I

authentication against win2k3 server
I've been trying to setup Samba to authenticate users against accounts existing on a Windows 2003 Server without any backwards capability. Ideally, this needs to be done without any changes to the Windows 2003 Server. Users will not be logging into the Samba shares at all. This is merely for authentication. I'm running FreeBSD 4.10-Relase #4 with Samba 3.0.8. This is my smb.conf file:

Joining RHEL5 server as member of win2003 domain fails - RHEL4 works
Dear SAMBA experts, I have several RHEL4 servers where samba is working perfectly with the exact same configuration file as is the case for this RHEL5 server, but on RHEL5 I cannot join the domain controlled by a win2003 server. >From running the following command this is extracted: [root@skade ~]# net rpc testjoin -d5 --- [2008/07/04 15:06:35, 5]

checking trust secret failed for interdomain trust
Hi samba members, I've searched through google, the archives and RTFM but I can't figure this out. I've got a setup of two different offices with both their own samba PDC, wins, etc. Via OpenVPN i've set up an interdomain trust between the two domains (for now one way, but this will become two ways). One domain is called PSW with bluemoon as PDC, the other PSWINDWG with redmoon as

Domain logon against a Windows Server 2003 based AD
Hi, I'm trying to configure my Mandrake V10 box to do user authentication against an ActiveDirectory domain hostet on Windows Server 2003. And guess what, I have some problems :) I used drakauth (similar to authconfig on RedHat) to configure the authentication against a windows domain. I was asked some questions concerning domain, domain controller, administrator account and

Can't join Domain on PDC: NT_STATUS_CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO (PAM: 4)
Hi all, I've got the following problem when trying to join a domain on a samba pdc itself: net rpc join eccag -U root asks for password an then tells me that it cannot connect to the PDC. Winbind-log gives the following: [2004/08/31 02:29:15, 0] nsswitch/winbindd_util.c:get_trust_pw(1024) get_trust_pw: could not fetch trust account password for my domain ECCAG [2004/08/31 02:29:15, 2]

Unable to access shares on a Linux Samba server
Hello everyone, I did alot of searching before I came to post here, but have failed to come up with a reason why this isn't working. I may just be missing a major step. First, let me get the formailities out of the way. Redhat ES 3.0 Linux 2.4.21-4.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Oct 3 17:31:21 EDT 2003 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux samba-3.0.10-1 I configured and installed swat so I could do remote

I'm trying to set up our test box here. Identical versions and setup to our devel box. It is part of the domain (has already been joined). winbindd + mod_ntlm_winbind, why do we need "net join ..." ?
Hello, I would like to use NTLM authentication on my Apache2 server, and I've found out this link which works very well for me, http://download.samba.org/ftp/unpacked/lorikeet/mod_ntlm_winbind I'm newbie to samba, and to make this stuff work, I had to execute "net join -S <DC> -U <Admin>", because winbindd complained about "did we join ?"... Samba-3 / ADS problems with trusted domain
Hello, I'm running Mandrake 9.2 and Samba-3.0.2a I'm connecting a Samba Server as a Domain member to an 2003 ADS, called TEST2. I've been able to create the computer account. I've also tested successfully, from Chapter 7 of ' Samba HOWTO Collection' with a W2K client logon/mount a share from the samba server using Kerberos. The testing of the smbclient was also

Winbind Authentication Problem
Had planned to use LDAP and replace an NT4 domain, but trouble with a software vendor (long story) means we need to keep the NT4 domain and use winbind for share authentication for the next few months. So, I religiously followed the TOSHARG winbind chapter, stopping short of making changes to /etc/pam.d files. I can browse and see shares from the Samba box via KDE's LAN browser, but

Printing problem, CUPS
Hi, I have a wierd problem regarding printing. I use the CUPS-backend on a debian-box to share printers with samba. Sometimes for no apperently reason, a win-box (XP-home) just can't print after a reboot... and no matter how many reboots the win-box makes it just stops working, and dosen't work until samba is restartet.... and its not a samba crash, because other win-boxes prints

Cups printers. Won't print first page! sometimes not atall.
Hi, I use Samba and cups on my debian-box to share printers, but sometimes, for no apperently reason, windows machines (XP-pro and XP-home), sudently won't print after reboot and this is only solved by a samba restart. Other times the first print after win-reboot, just gets lost, and never apper in the cups-printing log. It's not domain controled, but everyone is mounting their

Slow Directory Access after upgrade to 3.5.6
Upgraded to Samba 3.5.6 from 3.5.2. Samba is running as a standalone server on a box that was upgraded from Slackware 13.1 to Slackware 13.37. All Win XP Pro and Win 7 Pro clients can connect to the workgroup and browse shares and folders exactly as before; however, many complain of intermittent pauses, slowdowns and "Not Responding" messages when traversing directories. The samba server

nmbd Hogging CPU on Mac OSX (10.5.4)
Hi All, Firstly, I know this is a MacOS X issue and not sure if you guys can help, but I'm really hoping you can since I don't appear to be getting any joy elsewhere. Running OSX 10.5.4 and recently (last week) nmbd is hogging the CPU. I know this is a part of the Samba server on OSX, hence the post to this mail-list. When I disconnect from the network, nmbd goes away and doesn't

find_domain_master_name_query_fail(362)
Hi, we have an NT domain that spans multiple subnets so we use WINS. On one of the subnets we are using a linux box (redhat 6.0 with samba 2.0.6). I would like this Linux box to act as a Local Browse Master (LBM) but it just won't work. I get the following entries in the nmb log file: [1999/11/19 15:19:08, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:find_domain_master_name_query_fail(362)
