But when I try connecting to a public share, or the users home directory, I get a user denied error. "\\Fileserver\user is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. user / machine / group scripts, some work some don't
Hi List, I have some issues with user manager for domains (srvtools.exe from MS) and the scripts mentioned in the subject. The examples from the samba howto collection seem to cause serious issues here. I am on debian etch and tried to create my own scripts but till now to now avail. With the examples from the docs I could add groups, but could not add users to groups. There was the option -A

smbldap-useradd -w problem
I'm in the process of learning Samba and evaluating it as a possible replacement for Windows NT servers in our office next year. I have set up a small test network comprised of one NT 4 (SP6a) Workstation, one Windows 2000 Pro (SP3) and one Fedora Core 3 running samba 3.0.11 as a PDC. I'm using LDAP as the passdb backend with smbldap-tools 0.8.7-1. The Windows 2000 Pro machine can join the

WinXP not creating profile
I have just installed a new samba PDC following http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu-gutsy-samba-domaincontroller-p2 but my winXP clients don't save their profile. It is created a directory /home/samba/profiles/USER with permission 700 but no file is saved there. The computer I amb testing with was in the old samba PDC saving the profile with no problem, so I suppose is a samba problem. Any hint

smbldap-useradd not creating machine accounts in correct fashion
Hi, I have OpenLDAP working here generally without problems for a variety of applications including the management of Samba. Functioning user accounts can be created via 'smbldap-useradd' with the proper samba attributes being added in LDAP, however... Something odd is happening when I (or samba) tries to create a machine account with 'smbldap-useradd -w test1$' - an entry is

add|delete user / group / machine ... scripts, is the "API" somewhere documented?
Hi folks, are there any more detailed docs about those scripts? I have some annoying issues there and I can't find anything about that in the docs. If using usrmgr.exe is it possible to tweak the "add user script" that the full name of a user is stored too, like if I add the user manually with adduser (debian) or useradd -c "Full Name" -m username on (most?) other

adduser vs. useradd
Hi, To add a user to the system on the commandline, I usually use the adduser command. # adduser newuser And that's it. I've been using that command probably out of an old habit, since I've been a long-time Slackware user before. But now I wanted to dig a bit deeper, and some details puzzle me. Whereas on Slackware, 'adduser' is an interactive shell script to create a

can't join domain / smbldap-useradd -w machine not working
Hello, I'm trying to set up Samba + OpenLDAP as a PDC. I followed the instructions from chapter 6 in Samba-3 by Example, my system is SuSE 9.1. ldap, winbind, nmb and smb are running. testparm says my smb.conf file is OK. I set LDAP password using smbpasswd -w. There was a similar post a few days ago (smbldap-tools don't create machine account properly), but it didn't help me.

openldap integration failed after power cut
Hi We have a Samba server that authenticates with an openldap server. Or it used to. We had a power cut last week and after a bit of struggling everything came back, but not Samba. Previously our smb.conf file included the line passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://server.domain.net/ With this line in place the connection to the LDAP server fails, and peoples shares drop off every few minutes. I

Problems setting up a Samba BDC
Hello, I am trying to setup a SLES9 system as a Samba BDC. The PDC is NT4. I am using an LDAP backend and have installed the smbldap tools. I am following the directions found in the HOWTO and am running into trouble, maybe someone can shed some light on things for me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. I will print the commands I'm using to try and create the samba BDC and we'll go
