winbind doc error?
Hi People: In the how to posted on ..
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/winbind.html
The docs says several times to the option -B in the winbindd , but I
can't find anything on the manpage about that switch and I can't notice
any difference by using it.
The docs are outdated? or my 3.0.24 dosen't have this feature?

listing groups not working
Im having some problems with the samba 3.0.24 in Debian Etch when I try to
list the groups, like this:
wbinfo -g
or
net rpc group -U username
All the times the output of the command is... "NOTHING".
In samba 3.0.14 (Sarge), this works OK.
I don't try in a newer version of samba.
I test this with the debug on -d 4 with the rpc command and this is the
ouput (see attached files).

csc policy
Hai Christion,
So yes, i told you this once before it better to setup the windows acl.
And yes, but these days in win10 everything is more picky on correct settings.
Set/verify you profile share again, but setup windows ACL's. not POSIX acls.
See: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Roaming_Windows_User_Profiles
Goto : Setup : Using Windows ACLs
And dont look below this line on the

rrd tool to make samba usage graphs?
Someone knows of a tool to make samba usage graphs? I know this isn't
exactly samba related. But I have several samba fileservers and it would
be great to have such tool to measure the usage of a fileserver. Mostly
openfiles, but connected users would be great.

Csc Policy
Hi,
We are using Red Hat Linux 8.0 - and Samba 2.2.5
We are using csc_policy (Client side caching) to synchronise files between
Windows 2000 Professional and Linux.
The parameter we have in smb.conf is = csc policy = documents
- it is having reliability problems, are there any other parameters which
might enhance csc policy performance.
Please help, Im pulling my hair out
Cheers

CSC-policy and offline files
I have not been able to find anything similar to this in the archives...
So, can anyone help me out with the csc-policy? What version of SAMBA was
this introduced in? I am currently running 2.2.3 and am finding that some
of my XP users as well as one W2K user are running out of disk space on
their machines - their client side caches are filling up. The folders that
they are syncing to on the

Re: Samba - root preexec & login scripts
Last night at home, and on a second system today at work, I tried
putting in the sample preexec statement contained in the smb.conf man
page to check it's effect on the domain logons. Just like the preexec
for the perl script it kills domain logons. As that script is right in
the smb.conf man page I'd certainly expect that to work.
As one final shot at this I'll post my smb.conf for

csc policy
Hello you all,
we are in the process of upgrading to windows 10 on all our
workstations. We see one problem with redirected folders. We redirect
Appdata to a network share.
[profdata]
comment = Profile Data Share
path = /srv/profdata
csc policy = disable
hide files =
/?esktop.ini/ntuser.ini/NTUSER.*/?humbs.db/$RECYCLE.BIN/
This worked great (although slow) with

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
You tried the pam module mkhomedir ?
And have your tried :
root preexec = "/usr/local/samba/scripts/createzfshome.sh %U"
or
root preexec = /usr/local/samba/scripts/createzfshome.sh "%U"
Is the homedir on a NFS mounted dir? Exports correctly set?

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Louis, thanks for the idea!
I can execute the script as root on linux (tested this), because I do
folder (zfs data set) creation via remote ssh commands, so not in the
domain context.
But the point is that the script won't even execute. Even on failure,
there would be a log file created by my script which can't be found
anywhere.

integrating samba with pam
Hi there!
I been using samba3 with ldap for years, and now im
about to move to samba4 to leave the slapd.
I didnt try yet to migrate
the directory from samba3 to samba4. But i did setup a new domain and
everything looks ok.
My doubt is related to the configuration of the
computers with linux so that they can take advantage of the users and
passwords of ldap. But also, groups that are unix

Problem using root preexec
I'm having trouble getting root preexec to work.
The version of Samba I have is an older one (2.2.7) and I can't upgrade it
since I don't want to go to the trouble of getting and compiling the source
code for QNX.
What I really want to do is have our Windows GUI machine be able to execute
scripts on my QNX machine (checking filesystem integrity, untarring software
bundles etc) as QNX

root preexec script runs twice
Hi.
I'm tesing Samba 3.0.7-a on Debian Sarge with Debian kernel 2.6.8.
I am working on auto-creation of logon scripts, & am using a root preexec
on the netlogon share for this.
In testing I have passed the user ID to the script, and have used echo to
test output. The netlogon service parameters and other info are below.
The output from the script occurs twice in the output file,

Auto Create Home - shadow_copy2 and root preexec
Hi,
I make use of shadow_copy2 and root preexec. The vfs root preexec is
responsible to auto create home directories which initially don't exist.
The script behind it is well tested and works perfectly. Unfortunaltely
shadow_copy2 seems to be called before root preexec and fails due to the
missing ZFS home share which causes the session to fail completely
before root preexec even has a
