Samba performance
Hi everyone, I'm trying to use samba in a small video post production house but we are not getting the performance we expected. Our setup: - CenOS 5.6 x86-64 - samba.x86_64 (3.0.33-3.29.el5_6.2 and 3.6.0rc1) - Intel based server (One 4 core Xeon E5620 @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB RAM) - 4 Intel Gigagit ethernet NIC ports with 802.3ad bonding connected to a switch configured tu use 802.3ad - 8 2TB 7.2

Bonding performance question
I have a Dell server with four bonded, gigabit interfaces. Bonding mode is 802.3ad, xmit_hash_policy=layer3+4. When testing this setup with iperf, I never get more than a total of about 3Gbps throughput. Is there anything to tweak to get better throughput? Or am I running into other limits (e.g. was reading about tcp retransmit limits for mode 0). The iperf test was run with iperf -s on the

slow network throughput, how to improve?
would like some input on this one please. Two CentOS 5.5 XEN servers, with 1GB NIC's, connected to a 1GB switch transfer files to each other at about 30MB/s between each other. Both servers have the following setup: CentOS 5.5 x64 XEN 1GB NIC's 7200rpm SATA HDD's The hardware configuration can't change, I need to use these servers as they are. They are both used in production

smbtorture NEGNOWAIT makes 3.023d dump core
smbtorture NEGNOWAIT causes a core dump with a message "Abnormal server exit: multiple negprot's are not permitted". Is that truely by design?? I am running Samba 3.0.23d as AD member server and have smbtorture running on the same machine. Kind regards, Jens Appended: The final second of the smbd... Problems with pci passthrough with Xen 3.4.2
Hi all!. First of all sorry about my English it''s not very fluid. I have a small server based upon Supermicro X7DBN (Chipset IntelĀ® 5000P) motherboard and Intel Xeon E5320 (1,83Ghz) with 4Gb of FB-DIMM RAM. The OS is Debian Lenny in dom0 (2.6.26-2-xen-amd64) and Debian Lenny in domU (2.6.26-2-xen-amd64). Xen is 3.4.2 compiled from sources. The problem comes when I need to passthrough

em interface slow down on 8.0R
Hi, I noticed that network connection of one of my boxes got significantly slow just after upgrading it to 8.0R. The box has an em0 (82547EI) and worked fine with 7.2R. The symptoms are: - A ping to a host on the same LAN takes 990ms RTT, it reduces gradually to around 1ms, and then it returns to around 1s. The rate was about 2ms/ping. - The response is quite slow, but no packet

bond0 performance issues in 5.6
Hi all, I've got two gigabit ethernet interfaces bonded in CentOS 5.6. I've set "miimode=1000" and I've tried "mode=" 0, 4 and 6. I've not been able to get better than 112MB/sec, which is the same as the non-bonded interfaces. My config files are: === cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-{eth1,eth2,bond0} # SN1 HWADDR=00:30:48:fd:26:71

Decent Performance
Hi all, I am trying to get some decent speed out of a vanilla Debian (Proxmox) box and am running out of ideas. Basically I can exchange data at 110MB/sec (raw, nfs, ftp) but not with Samba shares. I tried almost every samba tuning tip I could find to no avail. The only optimisation left to smb.conf at the moment is debug level = 0. As one can see the robocopy throughput is merely half of what

Question on number of winbindd demons
Winbindd is supposed to have 2 processes running according to the documentation. When I start my samba server (security=ADS), I can see at least 4 Winbindd demons? (A) Is this intended? (B) How can I limit the number of winbindd processes? Kind regards, Jens

serious networking (em) performance (ggate and NFS) problem
Dear best guys, I really love 5.3 in many ways but here're some unbelievable transfer rates, after I went out and bought a pair of Intel GigaBit Ethernet Cards to solve my performance problem (*laugh*): (In short, see *** below) Tests were done with two Intel GigaBit Ethernet cards (82547EI, 32bit PCI Desktop adapter MT) connected directly without a switch/hub and "device

SWAT is working but shows smbd/nmbd: not running
Hi all, I had nForce3 motherboard that has broken. Than I bought nForce4 motherboard. I connected old hard disk to this new nForce4 motherboard. For net and sound support I download drivers from nvidia.com site. This driver asks kernel source to be on local disk and gcc compiler. After I installed kernel source and gcc, driver is successfully installed. >From that point (but maybe it is

Samba 4 fileserver perfomance
I have at home two centos boxes: Box A - centos 6.4. gui version Box B - centos 7.1. minimal version. They are connected to 100Mb router (both boxes have 100Mb network adapters). Box B has software raid 1 and sata II interfaces.?On box B samba4 is installed and I copy files to samba share ( from box A to box B). Network monitor (iptraf-ng) shows only 20000 kbps of this copying operation. That is

Intel 82599 driver?
Which version of the ixgbe driver is included in 5.6? I went through all the RHEL5 release notes, but they only ever state that the driver was updated, not which devices was added. This device is not supported up to CentOS 5.5 (2.0.44-k2), but the latest driver from the Intel web site works fine (3.2.10). 05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Unknown device 151c (rev 01) 05:00.0

problem about network in Xen!
HI, I have been stuck by this problem for the whole week. We just did a simple experiment to test the network performance in xen use the benchmark--iperf. Our NIC is Gigabit, and we got exactly correct data in hostOS--fedoral core 8 without xen running, the bandwidth of the network was 931Mbps. But the problem is, when we start guest OS--fedoral core 8, and running iperf on it, we got data only

ACLs fail in 3.0.23d
Whenever I try to read or modify ACLs from my Windows 2000 PDC, my Samba Domain Member Server (Security = ADS) does not allow setting ACLs, nor does it display the existing ACLs. - I have setup ACLs in my Kernel - I have translated and installed libacl and libattr - I can see and modify ACLs with getfacl and setfacl. - I have translated Samba 3.0.23d with --with-acl-support=yes - I have enabled

C5 64-bit on Dell not seeing 1 GB link
I've got a Dell Precision Workstation 490 with 64-bit Centos 5, fully updated, with an on-board Broadcom 57xx gigabit Ethernet controller, updated BIOS, 1 GB switch, and /var/log/messages and dmesg both claim the link is 100 Mb, not 1 GB. I tried setting eth0 to mtu 9000 but got an error in going so. What do I need to do to have the card see 1 gb? Thanks. Scott
