Unable to join domain in remote subnet..
Have you set in the slapd.conf on the slaves something like
updateref ldap://master.ldap
The slave / consumers need to redirect the request to the master ldap database.
It may also be a good idea to have samba use fail over for the ldap backend. You would need to set this in your ldap.conf as too.
for pdc / ldap master
passdb backend =ldapsam:"ldap://master.ldap ldap://slave.ldap"

Unable to change Windows password on Samba BDC
Dear Help,
We are currently running Samba 3.0.22 on a distributed network/domain as a PDC
(primary domain controller) and several as BDCs (Backup domain controllers) in
our branch offices located around the country.
At this point, the PDC is set up in our corporate office (where I'm located) and
users have no trouble authenticating (via logging into windows and accessing
shares) and also

Erratic behavior when Windows XP clients attempt to login to PDC
I have noticed while testing my Samba 3.0.2a primary and backup domain
controllers with Windows XP clients, that when I attempt to login to the
Samba PDC, the XP client will sometimes randomly choose the backup
domain controller. I only want the client to join the backup domain
controller when the PDC is offline. I am not experiencing any random
network outages or DNS failures so I am bewildered

Problem with User and Group Ownership listing
I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've
previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but
CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the
configurations cannot be moved straight across.
When I do a listing of a share directory that should have user and group
ownership determined by LDAP, I get the uidNumbers and

LDAP users/groups not showing up with nis, pam, & ldap
I am trying to configure NIS, PAM, & LDAP on a CentOS 6.2 host. I've
previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4, but CentOS now
uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations
are a little different.
Currently, local users and groups are showing up but not LDAP users.
When I do a /getent passwd/ and/getent group/ I don't get LDAP users.

configuring a backup domain server
Hi
Im looking to config a BDC with ldap. It seems the connection with ldap
primary server works, but Im confused with the shared folders. I understood
when you creates a BDC needs to put the same global information:
[global]
workgroup = DOMAIN
netbios name = DOMAIN-PDC
security = user
enable privileges = yes
interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth0 10.0.1.0/24 10.0.0.0/24

Authentication requests being handled by PDC not local BDC
I have a PDC+LDAP as well as a BDC+LDAP in another subnet setup with a
domain member in the same subnet as the BDC. From my understanding the
domain member should be hitting the BDC for all authentication but
watching the logs I see the PDC is the one handling it all. The BDC
just sits there. Am I missing something?
Here are the smb.conf for each servers:

Cross subnet browsing + OpenVPN
Hi All,
I'm having a problem with cross subnet browsing and name resolution across
an openvpn tunnel. i've found quite a few people who've had the same on
mail lists but none of their fixes have worked. The spec of the setups at
both ends of the tunnel are as follows:
OS - CentOS 5.5
Samba Version 3.5.4
OpenVPN Version 2.0.9-1
Each server is configured in gateway mode with two NICS,

WG: Cross subnet browsing + OpenVPN
What about your openvpn config?
The tun net must have an entry in your hosts allow.
If you work with briding the remote network has to be the same subnet as the
local!?
Bridging is the best way to have a remote net integrated.
I have one logging in form Berlin on my Samba-Domain.

samba>=3.0.4 - no more smbpasswd ? no more local auth when joined to domain ?
I just hope that this time I get heard since obviously nobody reads
news://linux.samba ...
Platform: SuSE-9.1, kernel-2.6.5, samba-3.0.4
I have recently upgraded from 3.0.2a to 3.0.4 and I have just noticed
that using the same smb.conf as with previous version, the system just
does not work anymore for me !
Furthermore, smbpasswd utility appears to be dropped !
Afterwards, I have noticed

Possible memory leak in smbd?
I noticed one of my smbd processes for one particular client (IUSR_JUNIPER)
is taking 200MB in memory, far different from all the other smbd processes.
Should I be concerned about a memory leak here? I don't think samba would
be caching any files, so I can't see why it'd use this much memory.
That windows client is a win2k IIS5 server, with well over 60 sites that are

Backup Domain not working
I recently set up a backup domain controller using Samba 3.0.23. I have
a Samba PDC already running, and all is working fine, but once I added
the BDC, now when people log in to their windows account, their home
directory is now being mapped to their home on the BDC (which is empty)
instead of the PDC. Conf files from each below:

two subnets, one domain, several DCs?
The situation I've got is that I want to make one domain, and then use
it on several different subnets. I have 3 subnets, 10.1.x.x, 10.2 and
10.3, all physically remote, but connected by a frees/wan tunnel that is
working just fine. We also have working LDAP logins and all that is
fine. I have gotten as far as getting my domain going on LDAP within
one subnet, but now I'm trying

windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi,
I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have
many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly.
However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified
network name is no longer available."
I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines
have no problem joining.

Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Hi every body,
As you may have guessed, I've got a problem ;)
What I had :
- A PDC Server (Windows NT 4 SP 6a), called SERVER1, for the domain TEST
- A BDC Server (Windows NT 4 SP 6a), called SERVER2, for the domain TEST
Everything was working fine.
Now I switched my NT PDC to a Samba PDC, and I make SERVER1 a BDC for the domain. Until now, no problem. I use samba 3.0.4,

PDC / BDC in a Samba Domain Controller.
Hello
I makeing a Domain Controller with Samba (v3.0.33) and LDAP (v2.4).
I will install a PDC in the headquarter and a BDC in the subsidiary of
the company that I work.
The PDC and the BDC will have his own LDAP data base.
I just install the PDC without problems and my next step is to install
the BDC.
I configured the LDAP that work in multi master mode. I made some test
and the LDAP works
