permissions not transferred using robocopy, xxcopy, net share migrate shares
Hello: I've been working for a few days on getting a FreeBSD 5.3 server up and running as a samba data backup server. My goal is to schedule periodic backups of our file server. After reading recommendations (e.g. by Mr. Terpstra) I've focused my attempts aroung robocopy, xxcopy, net rpc share migrate shares. However, I'm running into stumbling blocks that seem to involve a problem

migrating samba shares to a netapp filer?
Hello, I'll soon have to migrate our samba shares to a netapp filer (not my decision). Currently the shares are on an xfs filesystem and served by samba 3.5.2, which is also the domain controller (a role that it will maintain, only the shares are being transferred) and sama/unix users are in ldap. The filer is in the domain and uses ldap to map user ids and that seems to work. Samba maps the

Migration of files with Windows ACL's to Samba server
Hi there, It might that this question was already answered but I can't really find any proper documentation for this. I am in a process of migrating about 70T of files from our Win2016 storage server to a Samba (2:4.17.9+dfsg-0+deb12u3) server. Whilst doing this I want to preserve all the ACL's which were set on Windows shares. Is there any related documentation around this topic how to

Robocopy, archive bit and ACLs
Hello, I'm attempting to set up a daily Robocopy task on a Windows Server 2016 to duplicate a large directory tree -- including data, timestamps and ACLs -- to a Samba 4.5.12 server. This is my Robocopy command: Robocopy.exe C:\source \\foo\bar /XA:SH /XJ /MIR /NODCOPY /COPY:DTSO /A+:A /ZB I noticed that for a significant number of files, Robocopy will systematically identify them as

What is the best way to backup my NT 4.0 Server box that is only 8GB to my NEW SAMBA file server that I have added to the domain? Xcopy? Smbclient? Robocopy? DD command in Linux? I found some good info. on Google about Robocopy that is supposed to be great and will paste the information below. Also, can someone SEND me the latest copy of ROBOCOPY VERSION 1.92 please. I have a really old

Files suddenly go readonly
Hi, Running samba 4.10.16 on CentOS7. It's a fileserver but with a split personality. For everything UNIX authentication is NIS (I know ;-) but for samba we authenticate to AD and all users have the same uidNumber & gidNumber as they do in NIS. This has been working fine but now I have some users who suddenly lose write access to their files, sometimes. One user has 2 workstations (1

Problem with ACL plugin system
Don''t know if anyone else has experienced this but I''m having a problem with the access_denied method in Ezra''s ACL access control plugin. It''s working fine (in conjunction with acts_as_authenticated) until it comes across a user it denies access to, in which case it throws the following error: NoMethodError in Admin#index protected method

rsync'ing samba shares
I know this has come up a bit in the past, but consider this situation: Two Samba4 DC's - and I want to "mirror" the data shares to the "backup" DC in case we lose the primary DC and it's file shares. [A cheap, dirty, poor-mans semi-CTDB. How did you ever guess that Red Green was helping me?!] The easiest way is probably rsync'ing the data. However, will that

Dreaded ERROR 5 In Robocopy
I'm still battling the dreaded "ERROR 5 (0x00000005)" error when trying to robocopy files from a W2K box to Samba 3.0.7 on FreeBSD. I've been fighting this since Samba 2.2.8 and the upgrade hasn't fixed it for me despite the entries in the changlelog. Now here's the strange part. If robocopy is sending NEW files, files which are on W2K but not on the Samba box, the copy

help migrating from file server to NAS w/ Active Directory
hello, I'm having a problem I hope will be easy for someone to explain to me how to fix. I need to migrate from an old server to a new Cisco Smart Storage NAS, which runs some flavor of linux and is Active Directory aware. Using something like Robocopy from the AD server, or rsync or tar from the file server does not preserve user/group identities or directory date stamps (maybe rsync

Migration to Samba using external LDAP server
Hello, we are in the process of implementing a samba server running 3.0.14 and an external LDAP server running Microsoft ADAM. We have it also running with Open LDAP for UNIX under Redhat. It works fine for every user account that accesses the samba instance. The user mapping is done and all works fine. Now we have the major problem of the migration and I would need some guidance here

Backup Question
We are migrating an LTO2 library off Veritas and NTBackup on a Windows Server to a Linux Server with either Bacula or Amanda. Originally, the Windows server used scripts to sync changes from various other Windows servers using Robocopy to a locally attached set of volumes, then ran the backup nightly (Full's were always done). I now had hoped to rsync the Samba shares to a local replica on

Hi, I have Samba 4.6 running on FreeBSD 11.1 with a ZFS file system. Trying to use robocopy to mirror files from Windows 8.1. Robocopy is executed with the following options: /X /NDL /S /E /DCOPY:DAT /COPY:DAT

Unable to set attributes in a samba share (error 0x00000005)
Hi, I've set a share using samba, connected it to my Active Directory, and now I'm having problems when I copy files into this share. To setup the AD connection I've followed https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Domain_Member, and installed it into my Debian 9 install using APT, after https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distribution-specific_Package_Installation. Abysmal performance with Samba 4 and Windows Explorer
I'm experiencing extremely slow performance when trying to copy files from and to a samba 4 share. I'm using Debian and the Samba 4 SerNet packages and everything is up to date on the client as well as on the server. The connection is made through 100Mbp/s ethernet, but the problem also exists on a local virtual machine that runs on the Debian server. By extremely I mean really abysmal:
