lesson learned: script/runner does not abort on failed require
After a fresh installation of an application, some utility scripts run with script/runner quietly aborted right after their start. No error message whatsoever, just a new shell prompt. The reason was an uninstalled dependecy, but that was difficult to determine because the load failure was not reported: % ruby script/runner ''require "foobarbaz"'' % Why

Logon script never runs in 2.2.7a, but does in 2.2.4
Hello, we tried upgrading from 2.2.4 to 2.2.7a in order to fix a problem. We believe it fixes it, BUT, 2.2.7a causes logon scripts to never run. That is, we have 2.2.4 installed and the logon procedure works perfectly. We then upgrade the samba/samba-common (debian) packages, and everything works *except* that logon scripts never run. What are the possible causes for such a thing? Thanks! --

Is it a "Headless problem"? - Same code runs well in interactive R shell, but never terminates with Rscript
Dear R-Experts, I seem to be dealing with a so called "headless" problem in R. I wrote a quite extensive program that generates a Bayesian network from a query protein's Phylogenetic Tree and subsequently uses a message passing algorithm to infer the most likely annotation for the query leaf in the tree using the other leaves known -and proven- protein function annotations. username map break in 3.0.4 ?
Hello, I have following username map: !root = Administrator nobody = * in the documentation says what ! should stop processing the list of username maps, but looks like it doesn't. If I have second line with nobody = * when it maps Administrator account to nobody if I remove nobody = * then it gives root access to administrator account. With version 3.0.2 this way was working fine. I chech

Username Map not work
Hi All: I am running Samba 2.2.2 on HPUX-11.0. I use our NT 4.0 domain controller as the password server. However I also need to use the "username map" parameter. Samba will not look at my "username map" file. Any ideas? Also the "guest account" parameter will not work unless its in the "global" section ( it is supposed to be a share level parameter in

security = ads, username map and valid users
I would like to use Samba (3.5.10 as supplied with RHEL6 if possible) to make some directories accessible as a filesystem to (some of) our developers. However, those directories are read and written by a web server, and all files and directories in there should belong to www-data:www-data. The obvious solution is a username map - just map everyone to www-data - but then "valid

username map not working
I still have not resolved this problem. Last time I reported it, I neglected to note the OS & version. Server is running Digital Unix 4.0B, samba 1.9.18p1 Problem is that a user's home directory only appears on a Win95 client under "Network Neighbourhood" when they have an all lowercase username on the server. Otherwise, user is prompted for a passwd and a bad password error

Username map issue with 1.9.18p8
Hi All, Sorry to be posting this :-(, but if you're using the 'username map' parameter with Samba 1.9.18p8, here's a small patch you may need. Without it the username map will work once per smbd and then refuse to map subsequent names. This isn't a big problem as normally, on a single user NT or 95 system, username map will only be called once per session (in the

"username map" configuration doesn't seem to work
Hi, I have set "username map = /usr/local/samba/lib/username.map" in my smb.conf but it doesn't seem to work. This worked on my old Solaris server but not on new Red Hat linux server. Any idea??? Thanks. Jayesh

Small Bug with username map (2.2.5)
Hi, there appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file interpretation. When I put an exclamation mark before a line in the file, that is supposed to stop any further mapping if a match has already been made. That's what I understand to be the case. This is not happening for me. When I connect from a Win2k machine as Administrator, the log file records the mapping from

username map with NT groups
I need to map all of my NT id's to unix usernames. It looks like you can use NIS groups in the username map file. Why can't you put an NT group in there? Shouldn't I be able to map an entire NT group to a single unix id? Danny Travis danny.travis@exxonmobil.com

Samba 3.0 and username map.
Hello, I'm using samba 2.2.8 for aprox 40 computers and about 200 users. (no one has a computer for his own, so I'm using domainlogons and roamingprofiles) To map my (windows) users with unix accounts, I use a large (!) username map file. Apart from being large, I'm not happy with the way usernames can be added or modified. My question is: do I have to use the option username

multiple permissioning for same user in username.map
Afternoon All.... I'm new to the list today, so be gentle with me ;-) I have a problem where I host a samba box for the purposes of shunting data about between different platforms, mostly Solaris (but with a little HP-UX, AIX & Linux thrown in for good measure) to NT / 2K . I also have a number of NT / AD service accounts that need to connect through to different directories within

username.map limitations
It's looking like there may be a 1024 character limit for each username map? For example: account1 = user1 user2 user3 user4 user5 (etc. etc. etc.) --After a certain point user accounts are not recognized as being part of the map. Is this an intentional limitation, am I coming up against something else, has anyone else encountered this? Using a semi-ugly workaround of creating

(retry) 3.0.7: username map doesn't work with security=ADS
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 (OK, my first message got mangled because of the attachments, so I'm reposting) I've got a samba 3 box that's part of an AD domain. It works correctly for most users; but there was a problem where certain users couldn't connect. We'd get a log message that looks like this: Username SAMPLE.COM\pcuser is invalid on this system
