Windows XP local services not starting automatically after joining samba domain
Hi, I am trying to setup a Samba PDC with Windows XP Pro Clients. I currently run a Samba 2.2 PDC and am trying to change over to a Samba 3.0.5 PDC with an LDAP backend. I can join the domain fine, but from there things are getting rough. The Samba server is running on a Fedora Core 2 box with all the current updates and all my clients are XP Pro. As soon as I logon (with any account), I get

LDAP backend not mapping permissions properly and other problems
Sorry this is so long, but I think it is all relevant. I also have an output from pdbedit with log level 10 if needed. First, the latest problem I have noticed. When I create a new directory on the server, samba creates the files properly and gives them the proper permissions on the server, but when I look at the file security properties (Right click,Properties, Security Tab) I don't get the

smbldap-tools problem with Samba 3.0.1/LDAP 2.1.22/Fedora Core 1
I'm trying to setup a samba PDC/BDC with disconnected auth. and am stuck at step one because I can't get smbldap-tools to work right. First when I do a smbldap-useradd.pl -a test, it works fine. ldapsearch shows the entry properly. Then I try smbldap-usershow.pl or smbldap-userdel.pl or any other one for that matter and they all fail with a "user test does not exist"! Also if I

FW: Problem with Active Directory authentication
Hello -- I tried the two methods listed in your e-mail, and unfortunately neither worked. The connection simply closed, or timed out, after about a minute. I mentioned the possibility of creating a symbolic link to the bash shell in my previous e-mail, could that be part of the solution? Thanks. ________________________________ From: Data Control Systems - Mike Elkevizth [mike at

stepAICc function (based on MASS:::stepAIC.default)
Dear all, I have tried to modify the code of MASS:::stepAIC.default(), dropterm() and addterm() to use AICc instead of AIC for model selection. The code is appended below. Somehow the calculations are still not correct and I would be grateful if anyone could have a look at what might be wrong with this code... Here is a working example: ## require(nlme) model1=lme(distance ~ age + Sex, data =

mkdir Fail when creating multiple directories
Hi, I use the program Unison to synchronize two servers and have been having a problem recently with errors saying mkdir failed. The program tries to make backup copies of any file it is going to overwrite before it actually does the sync. The backups have been failing because of the mkdir failure. To try and find the problem, I logged in as root and then tried the same command that unison was

LDAP backend and User Manager for Domains
I am having a problem, more like an annoyance, when I use "User Manager for Domains". When I change a password ,add a user or any other major operation I get an "Access Denied" error message. I have to hit cancel to get out of the Users properties. Whatever change I made though is then applied. I am using an LDAP backend with the smbldap-tools scripts. Samba 3.0.5 /

FW: Problem with Active Directory authentication
Hi, If you have the "template = /bin/bash" option, I think it is more likely something wrong with the way ssh is trying to authenticate the username. Do a "getent passwd" and then try "ssh -v '<username exactly as getent returns it (case sensitive)>'@<fqdn of server>. If it doesn't work, post the output of what ssh generates. Mike E. On Thu,

Netlogon
Hi, I've just configure my Samba 3.0.7 as a PDC with an LDAP-based backend. Everthing seems fine except that my logon.bat is unable to execute when my users login to their XP. If I manually run //bilbo/netlogon/logon.bat on XP, the script will run without any problems. Is this purely a samba problem or it is due to my ldap configuration? Do I need to include ntconfig.POL in the netlogon

FW: Problem with Active Directory authentication
A thought came to me: The smb.conf file on the system has the following entry: template shell = /bin/bash Would creating a symbolic link with the name PHSshell pointing to the /bin/bash shell solve the problem? ________________________________ From: Kaplan, Andrew H. FW: Problem with Active Directory authentication
Hi, Try using the format <domainname><winbind separator><username> to login instead of <username>@<domainname>. I'm not sure why, and don't have time to check into it right now, but ssh doesn't like the <username>@<domainname> format for me either. The default winbind separator is a backslash "\", so you'll have to escape it,

smb + ldap: changing passwords from windows: SSHA instead of CRYPT
Dear friends, We have samba-3.0.21c-1 under RH9 + openldap 2.3.11 under FC4. When a windows user changes his password using Ctrl-Alt-Del the password is stored on ldap in SSHA format but we need to work with CRYPT because we have some apps that don't support SSHA. These are the lines related with authentication defined in smb.conf: encrypt passwords = yes ldap passwd sync = Yes

Problem with Active Directory authentication
Hello -- We are not running a Samba domain controller, rather we are relying on our network engineering group. I am not sure how willing they are in setting up the NIS extensions feature. To facilitate matters, would it be better for our either setting up the current system as a samba domain contoller, or establishing a separate computer that functions exclusively in that capacity?
