winbindd problem - STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW (0x80000005)
Hi everyone, i've got a little (at least i hope its a minor one) problem with winbind. General information about the system: - GNU/Linux 2.4.25-2tr - samba-3.0.2-4tr Samba successfully joined the ads (w2k servers), wbinfo -u and -g are working perfectly. If i try to authenticate a user with wbinfo or with ntlm_auth (overall goal is to have ntlm authentication with squid) i get a

winbind authentication fails with STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
Using samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2 as supplied by RedHat Enterprise 4. Using security=ADS mode, and using winbind and pam_winbind to authenticate. I was able to sucessfully join the domain, and can enumerate users and groups. Whenever I try to authenticate, it always fails with the status STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW. -------------------pieces of Winbind Logs--------------- [2006/01/26 13:08:55, 5]

winbind samba and nt4 pdc
Hi all I am attempting to install winbind on a Redhat 9 machine with an NT4 PDC. The winbind version is samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 as a stock RH install. I have followed the install instructions on the man page and I still get the errors shown below. I have searched google for the STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW (0x80000005)error and the plaintext password authentication failed error but nothing I've found

dual boot linux/winxp, winbind
We have a bunch of dual-boot boxes (linux/winxp). I'd like to be able to use winbind (against ads) for user authentication on the linux side, but it appears samba has to join the AD too. Upon joining the AD under linux/samba, it makes the windows side of things stop working (machine account has been modified). In the past, when using an NT4 domain, I was able to tell samba to use a

Samba PDC and logon.bat questions
Hello, For some time now I have thought that Samba was a piece of cake to setup and thought making it a PDC and WINS server to boot, would not be much harder. Haha, I am finding out I was very wrong. First question: Since logon.bat is being processed by a windows client machine that has no idea what to do with Samba variables, how do you avoid having to create a separate logon script

Using ldap for permissions/authenication
Hi all: I am currently using Active Directories (via openldap client) to authenicate my linux clients and would like to have samba use AD (ldap - not winbind) as well. I really haven't seen any documentation on how to implement, however. Does anyone have any information regarding ldap and samba (redhat rpm)? Thanks! Kind Regards, Jennifer Fountain Systems Administrator/Security R&B

Required Services for Samba?

SIP Authenication (Simple, Digest, ACL)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I have been successful in getting Digest authentication to work with my Mitel 5055 IP Phones, however I'm wondering if Asterisk still supports Simple authentication? I know it has been depreciated in the RFC, but I have some phones with don't support Digest. Or how about an ACL? PB -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5

Ways to use Samba Authenication with apache 2
Mod_auth_apache seems to be only for version 1.2 and 1.3. Does anyone know of another solution? Any help would be appreciated. Jason Lehman Webmaster, Registrar's Office (813)974-4157 Phone 574-4157 Suncom (813)974-5271 FAX jlehman@admin.usf.edu Email

question NIS password authenication
Fellow Samba Folks, I am trying to setup Samba version 2.2.8a. I would like to authenticate the users with their NIS password and not use a smbpasswd file on the Samba Server. I also want to use the encrypt password feature. The clients will be using XP or Win2K os. Is this possible or do I have to find a Windows Domain Server. Win 98 Authenication problems....
Well, it's been several weeks since I made a fairly detailed post to the list regarding problems I was having with the Win98/Samba authentication process. I haven't received any solutions, but 3 or 4 other people have emailed me saying they have the exact same problem. Reinstalling Samba 2.06 via RPM seemed to fix the problem temporarily, but it's returned. The authentication problem

scp forces original access permissions when owner lacks write access
Hello, I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature... When I use scp to copy a file to a filesystem which forces or masks permissions on new files (in my case a samba share) the resulting permissions depend on whether the owner had write access in the original permissions. If the owner did have write access then the copied file ends up with the permissions specified by the filesystem. If the

xfs quota weirdness
Hi all, I have a quota problem with xfs (xfsprogs 3.1.7+b1 on debian GNU/Linux 7 -- wheezy) and samba-4.1.19. If I set a user quota to say 10GB, windows explorer reports a 20GB quota of which none used. If I change quota to x, windows explorer reports 2x space of which none used. So I assume samba is somehow getting (albeit incomplete and incorrect) xfs quota info from operating system. disks

Help with backups
I've got a Redhat 5 server running Samba, and two dualboot CentOS 5 workstations. Until we get a better backup strategy, I'm backing up the workstations to the server via mounting a shared samba drive to /mnt. Trying tar cvf /mnt/samba_share/backup.tar /* eventually yields backing up /mnt, which produces an unwanted loop, including /mnt/samba_share I looked at tar with --exclude /mnt
