Excel Read only file bug back on 3.0.23x?
Hi, I believe that the BUG 2346 which was resolved in samba 3.0.14 has come back in the 3.0.23 series. Here is what I have noticed on two separate configurations. The samba packages were built on each machine using rpmbuild with the SRPMS provided for Fedora in the samba web site. Configuration 1. Two machines running with RHEL4, samba 3.0.23b-1, drbd-0.7.21 protocol C. Kernel:

FC6 and winbind separator ignored?
I'm trying to join my FC6 box to our Active Directory domain. For the most part the setup was pretty straightforward, but it just doesn't seem like winbind separator is being honored. When I do a 'getent passwd' I get the following: AVWORLD\johnXXXX:*:16782801:16777216:XXXXXXXX:/home/AVWORLD/johnXXXX:/bin/bash

deleting (empty) directories
I am evaluating rsync for the mirroring of a website and associated database. To exercise it and establish the correct run string I need I am running tests LOCALLY between two test directories. I have a /scratch/temp/Departure and a /scratch/temp/Arrival trees. I apply changes to the Departure tree, run rsync, and do a diff -r. Now I delete a file in Departure rm Departure/Quattro/uno.file

file corruption
Hi to all! I've been using samba for about six months: I've set up a file server, replacing a small windows 2000 server. I'm using samba 3.0.21c on a linux slackware 10.2. It is used to share two spreadsheet programs and file connected to them... Everything runs fine, except for a file, which is processed and saved several times in a day. After few weeks, this files got corrupted and

reading quattro pro spreadsheet .qpw into R
I have many quattro pro spreadsheets and no quattro pro. Is there a way to access the data using R, or any other solution that anyone can think of? thanks, -- Stephen Sefick Let's not spend our time and resources thinking about things that are so little or so large that all they really do for us is puff us up and make us feel like gods. Remove Directory Recursively
I am trying to delete directories recursively in 'smbclient' like I typically do with 'rm -r' on a Unix shell, but I am just not able to. Is that in fact possible in 'smbclient'? Youssef Eldakar Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Serial port fun: CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) vs. CentOS 5.4 (64-bit)
I am in the process of migrating from running CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) to CentOS 5.4 (64-bit) on my AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 system (it is running CentOS 4.8 32-bit because the disk images are from a previous PIII system), and things are 'interesting' WRT how the Lava Computer mfg Inc Quattro-PCI card is being handled. lspci (on CentOS 4.8 32-bit) yields: 01:0a.0 Serial controller:

Faceted bar plot shows wrong counts (ggplot2)
I have encountered a problem with faceted bar plots. I have tried to create something like the example explained in the ggplot2 book (see pp. 126-128): library(ggplot2) mpg4 <- subset(mpg, manufacturer %in% c("audi", "volkswagen", "jeep")) mpg4$manufacturer <- as.character(mpg4$manufacturer) mpg4$model <- as.character(mpg4$model) base <-

smbd processes 99% cpu and end-user locks up
Still having a situation, in particular with Microsoft Office products (Excel, MS Word, etc), wherein a user locks up while saving a file. The scenario goes as follows: user opens up a file (excel document, word document, etc), user changes file, user hits save, user hangs... `top` reports an smbd belonging to user locked in some sort of loop causing 99% cpu utilization. net status sessions

2 TB limit on USB drive
Hallo I submitted this as a bug several weeks ago, but I wanted to ask around & see if anyone else has come across this.... I have a USB Buffalo Drivestation Quattro, with 4 1TB disks configured in raid5 as one 2.8TB (or so) disk, attached to a Cent 5.4 64 bit server (completely yum'd up to date) The disk is labeled as GPT, and formatted as a 2.8 TB ext3 partition (this issue also

Good news Ubuntu`s update fixed problems in CoreDRAW 9
Its February 6, 2012. I just downloaded all the updates to Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. I think the updates just came out today. It was a bigger package of updates than the others I have installed in the past. I do not know what they did but whatever it was, it fixed most of the problems in CorelDRAW 9. I gave it a rating of bronze, and that was being generous, just a few days ago. It seems as thou

Offline Folders
We have just recently started using Windows XP Offline Folders here, and it is causing all sorts of festive problems. If a folder is set for offline use on a client, whether that folder is on our samba server or not, the samba server becomes unavailable or only very slightly available at best. Example: Explorer - Windows 2003 Server, Quattro - samba 3.0.22 server on Solaris 9

"disappeared" user
I would really appreciate some help figuring out why one of my students has "disappeared" from the user list, and what to do about it. I'm using Samba3 on Fedora; the client machines are running WinXP. The system has been up and running since the beginning of September. Today one of my 4th-graders was unable to log on; she didn't read the error message carefully, so she

SIP Conference phones
Greetings list, Does anyone have experience with SIP conference phones? I need to source a couple for a client, but I'm not really familiar with the market - i.e. what's available, what's decent quality, etc.. A cursory googling has led me to the Polycom Soundpoint IP4000 at around the ?450 mark - any thoughts on this? If anyone knows a good Polycom wholesaler in the UK, I'd be

coreldraw 9 almost loads hangs at self regestration
I am using wine 1.3.28 loaded from the Ubuntu software link (GUI) no terminal loading. I installed Ubuntu 64 bit on January 9 latest version. When I try to load Coreldraw 9 from the setup exe. file on the CD located in the DVD burner the program starts up fine and almost completely loads. (I used Wine to start the setup) Then it gets to self Registration and stops at c:/programs

spreadsheet addiction
There's a new page on the Burns Statistics website http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Tutor/spreadsheet_addiction.html that looks at spreadsheets from a quality assurance perspective. It presents R as a suitable alternative to spreadsheets. Also there are several specific problems with Excel that are highlighted, including the status of statistical functionality in Excel.
