Joining a Linux Machine to a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain

3.0.23 to a Windows 2003 Active Directory. I can authenticate successfully
against Kerberos, but I cannot seem to join the domain. I'm using
instructions from this article

Accessing /home/<user> properly from Win2003 Server share
Hi,
After a major fight with Samba and Winbind (and my confusion), I finally
have my a RHEL v4.0 ES box successfully authenticating against the
Active Directory (ads) on a Windows 2003 Server. I installed the latest
version of Samba in the process (3.0.20) and SELinux started complaining
so I've disabled that for now.
I can now telnet, ssh, su, etc... as any of my windows users on the

winbind can see some groups but not others
Hello,
I followed the steps at
http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3487081
for adding a v3.0.21a samba and winbindd server to a MsAD domain and
configuring nsswitch.conf to find passwd and group info from winbind.
This seems to have worked out fine, except that I can't 'see' or
'recognize' certain groups via getent or via wbinfo -g.
E.g. I can see the

Samba Domain authentication and shares
Hello,
I have been able to use Samba to join our Win2003 domain. I have also
setup folders and permissions in the smb.conf file. I can browser to the
Samba Shares 2 ways, thru network neighborhood and by UNC/ip address.
Both of these methods prompt me for login which is not successful. I
assumed that if I userA had permissions to a folder in the smb.conf file
that Windows userA would e able to

Joining ADS: unodocumented error
Hi everyone,
I am trying to set up a file server on Linux for Windows XP boxes in a
Windows Server 2003 environment. I followed an excellent tutorial on
Samba and ADS, which I recommend to all newbies like myself:
http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3487081.
Kerberos authentication seems to succeed, and apparently there is
nothing wrong with my smb.conf file, yet when

Can only connect after running 'wbinfo -u' or 'getent passwd', and then only for a few minutes
I used this guide to help me setup samba to authenticate using active directory.
http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3487081
It worked great. Then I was trying to demonstrate it to someone, and
it didn't work. I couldn't find anything I did to break it. After
about an hour I retraced every step I made to set it up in the first
place, and it worked again. Then

Managed to make some progress, stuck again.
Hi,
An update on my work to integrate my Linux server (CentOS 4.3) in AD
2003.
Sorry about the long post :)
Found this page
(http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3487081)
and followed the instructions on it.
First, I made sure that the Samba installation is supporting Kerberos,
LDAP, AD and Windbind. That was OK.
I made sure that /etc/hosts contain the name of the AD

cant authenticate Samba -> AD trying to map to shares on samba server
I have read through previous posts but still cant connect to samba shares - any help much appreciated.
Running Samba 3.0.10-1 on fedora Core 2. Dont know anything about AD as it's looked after by the big boys and they wont share their secrets with the linux team. I do know the server I need to authenticate with is acting as some sort of time server so I assume that is not an issue.

DNSMasq - Why the stuff hits the fan when the net connection is down
List,
Per someone's suggestion (thanks, whoever you were) from this list, I
implemented dnsmasq to prevent the issue of resolving DNS when the net
connection goes down.
This morning the net connection was down, and our * server didn't miss a
beat. I recommend looking into:
http://thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/doc.html

Kerberos and PAM
I am new to samba. I followed the docs on samba.com to configure samba as
"domain member", security = domain, and to user winbind to authenticate
users against windows 2003 AD. well, my question is the steps mentioned the
use of PAM to do the authentications against the AD but it doesn't work - do
I also need to configure kerberos for this type of installation?

CentOS 5 client in W2K3 AD Domain, getent only shows local info
I'm trying to integrate a Linux machine into our
Win2K3 ADS-based network. The machine must
primarily serve as a user workstation (i.e., a
Samba Client), although it also needs to serve at
least one share for backup purposes. I'd like to
emulate the behavior of our WinXP machines in that
any user in our small company can login to any
computer in the domain based on network

The drivers need to be copied to the directory returned by the "getdriverdir"
rpc command. On my system the output looks like:
rpcclient $> getdriverdir
rpc_pipe_bind: Remote machine localhost pipe \spoolss fnum 0x772d

winbind authentification trouble
A Debian/Lenny-Server is connected to a PDC (using samba) and tries to
authenticate logins via pam_winbind. User mapping and everything else
needed works fine (i.e. especially getent shows all the accounts),
however remote logins of domain users fail. I have:
| gatekeeper:~# cat /etc/pam.d/common-auth
| [...]
| auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok_secure
| auth required

Offline files enabled clients are loosing network drives
Hello,
since the update to Samba 3.0.25b Clients which have offline files enabled
- typically notebooks - are sporadical loosing their network drives.
In the samba logs I see:
"read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 192.168.1.58. Error = Connection timed out"
After a new login the client can connect again to the shares again, but
after some minutes of work the same thing

problems trusting a w2003 domain server from samba 3
I have samba 3 PDC (SAMBA domain with hostname "pevpdc") on CentOS 3.7
(package is named samba-3.0.9-1.3E.7) and I have a w2k3 sp1 domain
(W2003 domain with hostname "mailserver").
The last is in mixed mode and is an exchange server and the former is
without winbind, using smbpasswd backend and "security = user" in
smb.conf.
I would like to authenticate mailserver
