I recently upgraded my samba pdc from version 3.0.9 to version 3.0.21b to try and fix a browse issue with Windows 2003 Server and linux samba servers. The browse issue was fixed, but now I am having problems adding machines to the network. I run slackware 10.0 linux with an openldap backend which has worked fine until now. I also upgraded the samba tools from idealx.org to the latest

Problem with folder redirection and "guest user"
Hi all, I am setting up my second server with Samba 3.0.21c with LDAP as described in Samba3-ByExample. The server OS is Slackware Linux 10.2, without PAM. All seemed to work perfect until I decided to try folder redirection. I followed the instructions given in the "happy users" chapter, but now new users cant log in. When trying to log in with a new user (umgrtest16) from a WinXP SP2

Upgraded from 3.0.9 -> 3.0.21b - Now adding machines aproblem
Yes, I had a similar problem when I upgraded from 3.0.9 -> 3.0.21b. After upgrading I could not add machines. It would find the PDC and then prompt me for a user/password, I would enter it and I got user not found error message. If I typed the password incorrect then I would get Username/Password incorrect error message. My logs showed that I was authenticating OK. So only thing I could think

Samba pdc with ldap & samba3-3.0.25c-34 on CentOS 5
Hi all, I had been running a Samba pdc using the standard tdbsam backend on CentOS 4.5 supporting 20+ WinXPsp2 workstations and a Win2k3 Terminal Server. This set up was running fine for arroung 18 months maybe more. The above system was built on ageing hardware that used to be a Win 2k server that died from OS corruption. Due to the expanding client needs there was good reason to replace

smbldap-tools and joining workstation to domain
Hi, I've reported this before but I guess I'll have to do it again, since it's not fixed yet or I'm understanding something wrong here. The problem is that smbldap-useradd -w 'machinename' will add only posixAccount entrys into ldap but it should add both posixAccount and sambaSAMAccount entrys. So if one doesn't add correct machine account entrys manually to ldap

Samba3 by example problems
Hi All, I am going through a setup of a test samba3 box with rh9 with my self rolled copy of 3.0.10. I have removed the old rpm version of samba. I compiled 3.0.10 with all defaults except for the install prefix which I set to /usr/local/samba3. I followed the steps given in Chap 6 - making users happy in the online html version. I changed a few things. Instead of MASSIVE as the PDC name I

Bugfix for idealx smbldap-tools
Hi. When I tried to setup my LDAP I used the smbldap-tools from idealx. I discovered some errors which made the tools unusable for me. Here's a fix for the bugs I discovered: a) I decided to use a suffix in the LDAP which contains spaces, ie. I used something like "o=My Org,c=DE". Because the suffix wasn't quoted in the various calls in the tools, this didn't work. b) It

can't join domain / smbldap-useradd -w machine not working
Hello, I'm trying to set up Samba + OpenLDAP as a PDC. I followed the instructions from chapter 6 in Samba-3 by Example, my system is SuSE 9.1. ldap, winbind, nmb and smb are running. testparm says my smb.conf file is OK. I set LDAP password using smbpasswd -w. There was a similar post a few days ago (smbldap-tools don't create machine account properly), but it didn't help me.

machine account locations
OK I'm confused. Can machines be in ou=Computers,dc=somewhere,dc=net ? Every thing works fine if I configure so that machine accounts are created under ou=Users. If configured for machines to be in ou=Computers, I can't add a new machine. Error returned is "The user name could not be found." This is from the w2k machine itself. The release notes for 3.0.11 seem to say adding

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all! I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC, a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core 3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows XP and a few with Windows NT. Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

Problems with smbldap-tools 0.8.2 and Samba 3
I'm having problems using smbldap-tools 0.8.2 from idealix, I'm using the following entry in my smb.conf file: add machine script = smbldap-useradd.pl -w -g 553 %u Then, while I try to add a workstation to my domain, the script adds a posixAccount, and then I get this error: ------ [2004/01/14 18:15:49, 1] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldapsam_modify_entry(1173) ldapsam_modify_entry: Failed to

smbldap-tools unresovled problem.
Hi All, I am current working on Samba + LDAP PDC in RHEL-4. I some problem when doing the smbldap-useradd -w command. When I have a WinXP box try to join the PDC, smbldap-useradd -w "%u" will add a workstation account to the LDAP tree with all POSIX attribute but without all the SambaSAMAccount attribute. So, the WinXP box can find it's workstation account and wouldn't

smbldap-tools: only incremental UID's?
Hi, In smbldap-useradd.pl is a pice of code, which find the first unused uid starting from $UID_START (for example 1000). if (!defined($userUidNumber)) { # find first unused uid starting from $UID_START while (defined(getpwuid($UID_START))) { $UID_START++; } I've over 500 UID's in use (maximum UID is 1547). It works well, until you delete an user. After deleting an user,

Cannot join SAMBA domain from XP/2K
Hi List. I've got SAMBA 3.0.7 with LDAP passwd backend (OpenLDAP 2.2.15) on Solaris 9 box. When joining the domain I have permanent error "The user name could not be found".
