No Mapping between account names and security IDs was done
I had inquired about this in that past and was not given a direct answer. For whatever it is worth, here are my findings, also in response to this thread http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-ntdom/2001-January/017142.html I just discovered that you should make sure that samba has not generated a new sambaDomainName=<domainname> entry in LDAP that contains a SID that's different than

Samba as PDC - No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
Hello everyone, I?m trying to set Samba as a primary NT domain controller in my small home network. I?ve been going step by step trough the HOW TO on Samba PDC. When I got to the part where I should log a client (a windows 2000 workstation, no SPs installed) into the domain (called HOME) I keep getting ?No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.?. I guess I forgot to do something

no mapping between account names and security ids was done
I use a openLDAP database for authentication on my Redhat 7.2 server. The domain is "HOME". I have had no problem adding trust accounts and authenticating against it. Today I had to change the name of my Win2K workstation from poseiden to poseiden1 for compatibility with a package I am testing. Once I changed it and put in a new trust account, I could not rejoin the domain. I gave up and

smb-ldap or not to smb-ldap
Hi all, We are deploying a Linux server and desktops for a customer. We will have the users and groups in LDAP on the server, and files shared via NFS. However, one never knows if Windows desktops will be needed in the future. Is it a good idea to add users with smb-ldap even if samba is not initially used, as adding the samba attributes to an existing LDAP database is painful, and the

explorer.exe: no mapping between names and security ids was done
... I just want to put this somewhere easily searchable based on the users error message. Upgrading a domain controller to Debian 8 (samba 3 to 4) resulted in the message "no mapping between names and security ids was done" at times. The message appears on the windows 7 domain pcs when running explorer.exe. Also other basic things did not work: internet explorer, or mapping between

Mangling problem
Hi, I have a strange problem with Samba on RedHat 7.2. In one directory there is many files with similar long file name (10+ digit file name for many pictures). When I dir this directory, I can see many files with different long file name, but with exactly the same short file name. There is about 3-5 files with the same 8.3 DOS file name. I really don't understand how can it happen and what

Vote for CentOS - AGAIN :)
The preliminary round voting is completed in the "2005 Readers' Choice Awards" at Linux Journal. CentOS was nominated in the "distribution:" category along with 18 other Linux distros ... and we finished in the top 3 (along with Ubuntu and FedoraCore). Thanks to every one who voted for CentOS. I really did not expect that we would be on the final ballot, though I am

Are these instructions meant to be executed on CentOS 1804?
Good afternoon from Singapore, I came across this Linux Journal article titled "DIY: Build a Custom Minimal Linux Distribution from Source", written by Petros Koutoupis. S.M.A.R.T
At my physics lab we have 30 servers with 1TB disk packs. I am in need of monitoring for disk failures. I have been reading about SMART and it seems it can help. However, I am not sure what to look for if a drive is about to fail. Any thoughts about this? Is anyone using this method to predetermine disk failures? TIA

Converting asterisk h264 recordings
Hello, We are setting up an asterisk system for voicemail with video possibilities. We are not using the voicemail app, but rather writing our own dialplan logic. The part of recording, and replaying, the voicemail works, and we receive both an h264 and an wav-file. What I now wonder is how to convert these into one file playable by a (standard) media player. I have not found any real good

freenx-0.5.0-8.c4.noarch.rpm is in testing
We have created a new version of freenx (freenx-0.5.0-8.c4.noarch.rpm) and moved it to the testing repo. This is based on the code displayed at the LWE in San Francisco ... http://lwn.net/Articles/146825/ http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8489 (though it is not officially released as stable by the freenx people) This version should handle printing and reconnecting to running sessions much
