Transparent Samba 2.2 -> 3.0.X migration
Hello, I wan't to migrate accounts, roaming profiles and other shares from Samba 2.2 (Slackware) to Samba 3.0.23 (Debian). It should be transparent for clients. I migrated linux user accounts, smbpasswd file, smb.conf and domain SID. I can join new client to the new domain and it works, but when I'm trying to substitute old server with new one (only for test clients of course, without

Must restart Samba regularly because saving files stops working
One of our sites is currently testing Samba 3.0.21c as PDC on HP-UX 11.00 with openldap backend. >From time to time - about every two days - it suddenly becomes impossible for the clients (NT4 & XP) to save any more files to the samba shares. When the problems start occurring they simply stop and restart samba, and then everything works again for a couple of days. Please not that the samba

Hi everyone, I am trying to setup a PDC using Samba and OpenLDAP. For some reason, I've used both the examples provided in the Official Howto and also the smbldap-tools howto developed by IDEALX. I am able to get the directory up and running. I am able to get the following working: 1. LDAP Directory server and successful Queries through Samba 2. Add user and machine accounts. 3.

Problem with folder redirection and "guest user"
Hi all, I am setting up my second server with Samba 3.0.21c with LDAP as described in Samba3-ByExample. The server OS is Slackware Linux 10.2, without PAM. All seemed to work perfect until I decided to try folder redirection. I followed the instructions given in the "happy users" chapter, but now new users cant log in. When trying to log in with a new user (umgrtest16) from a WinXP SP2

can't add machine account
I am using FreeBSD 6.2 with Samba 3.0.24. Samba is set up as PDC and using the tdbsam backend. I'm having a hell of a time logging in my first machine (say Windows machine BLAH). First I created my login user on the system side (pw) and the samba side (pdbedit). # pw useradd username # pdbedit -a -u username Then I create the machine system account: # pw useradd -g machines -c Machine -d

Machine account being rejected
I have been running Samba at home as a fileserver for a long time and I have now been changing it to a PDC (later I want to try switching it to an AD server as a learning experience prior to doing the same on a server in work, which is already a PDC).I have got it to the point that it logs onto the user account but not the machine account. The local machine is called asus, the user account

Seamless update from Samba 2 to Samba 3 on a new server
Hi, I'm new to the list, I hope i'm posting at the right place ;) I'm having a hard time trying to update and to move my Samba 2.2 PDC to a new Debian server. Currently, the PDC is using Samba 2.2.8 on a Solaris Server. My goal is to move it to another computer, and to update it to a newer version (3.0.24) This must be fully transparent for the users, since I have no time to

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP machine accounts

I'm struggling to understand the whole machine account business, and to get them working correctly. I'm using the smbldap-tools package to create my ldap directory and also the various users and machine accounts. Creating users works fine, but machine accounts

user can't logon to specific computer: creds_server_check failed
A few computers -- two or three -- are very spotty about letting people log on. It seems -- and this could be off-base -- that they'll let anyone log on once, but will require a reboot before you can log on again. Sometimes, logging on works fine, though. There really appears to be little rhyme or reason to what happens. In the Samba logs, I'm getting: [2006/10/20 08:08:14, 0]
