Sync unix and samba passwords
Hi, We have an Exchange server (server 2003) that is a domain controller and a few Samba file servers that are not part of the Windows domain. The Samba servers use their own LDAP directory ( ldapsam backend with pam_ldap ) that is synchronized to one openldap directory server but is not synchronized to the Windows domain AD. The workstations are all local accounts and not members of any domain

Local groups invisible (ldapsam & 3.0.23b, 3.0.23c)
Hello all, I'm running samba3 as domain controller. I have upgraded samba from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23b and faced an issue with groups display: samba does not see any groups. "net rpc group -U Administrator" returns empty set. usrmgr.exe does not show any groups also. Groups are present in ldap, nss_ldap works fine: # id asv uid=2005(asv) gid=513(Domain Users) groups=513(Domain Users),

POLL: Does anyone actually use multiple passdb backends on the same server?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Folks, We are discussing removing the capability to chaining passdb backends. It's a decent idea but overly complicates things IMO and unless it has wide spread use, we'll probably axe it soon (voting is starting up on the samba-tecnnical ml now). To give you an example of what I mean, is anyone using something like: passdb backend =

Fwd: Net groupmap list puzzler
Hi, I think at first you have to do a net groupmap add all the well known Groups. System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1 Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1 Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> -1 Domain Users (S-1-5-21-3732367786-856876144-3282938955-513) -> -1 Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-3732367786-856876144-3282938955-512) -> -1 Power Users (S-1-5-32-547) -> -1 Domain Guests

Samba4 and NVSv4
Short story: cannot get Kerberized NFSv4 to work. I've googled a great deal and cannot find where I have goofed (and there sure is a lot of misleading and just plain incorrect information out there), so would appreciate another pair of eyes. NFSv4 without Kerberos does work fine, as does ID mapping. We're using NFSv4 in production with sec=sys, but I'm not happy with that. My

A regression in 3.0.25rc3?
Dear Samba team, I have installed the above release of samba and I am seeing the same problem as decribed in this old posting when I try to add permissions to printers: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-July/123177.html Interesting that this was last seen in 3.0.23. 3.0.24 behaves as expected. Thanks Alex

R as a non-functional language
I'm reading Torgo (2010) *Data Mining with R*<http://www.liaad.up.pt/~ltorgo/DataMiningWithR/code.html>in preparation for a class I'll be teaching next quarter. Here's an example that is very non-functional. > pH <- c(4.5,7,7.3,8.2,6.3) > names(pH) <- c('area1','area2','mud','dam','middle') > pH area1 area2 mud dam

Referring to objects themselves
Is it possible to refer to an object from within a method, as in *this *in Java? I can't find anything about this in the documentation. Sorry if I missed it. Samba as PDC with nested groups
Hello List, I'm evaluating a migration from Windows NT 4.0 to Samba 3.0. Currently its not clear to me whether its possible to do nested groups with samba at all. AFAIK its possible to have Samba resolve nested groups when run as a domain member, but what about a PDC (and a BDC)? So could anybody please clarify this to me? thanks Stefan -- http://www.dreamind.de/ Oroborus and

Still confused about classes
Hi, I'm still confused about how to find out what methods are defined for a given class. For example, I know that > today <- Sys.Date() will produce an object of type Date. But I'm not sure what I can do with Date objects or how I can find out. > ?Date refers me to the Date documentation page. But it doesn't tell me how, for example, to extract the current year from a

Am I wrong or is fields_for not working right in Rails 2.2.2
I may be totally wrong about what the fields_for method is supposed to do, but for some reason I thought using it scoped an object around an association. For example, I have a User class and when you''re creating a new user I want to use fields_for to add a BillingAddress to the user like so: <%- fields_for :billing_address do |billing_address_form| -%> <%= render :partial
