Samba share question
I have the following Samba share: [Programs] writable = yes path = /home/wes/Download I want myself to have write access, and everyone else to have read-only access. The write access works fine when I authenticate, but anyone that does not authenticate gets the you do not have permission error. The /home/wes/Download folder ACL has read access to group and others. What do I need to do to

Samba 4 Clustering
Hi List, From what I've read in many mailing lists, Samba 3 is not truly clusterable. From what I understand, people have been able to cluster Samba with varying levels of success. Transparent failover and active-active file serving ( 2 or more smbs serving the same files (through a cluster filesystem like GFS) from multiple cluster nodes simultaneously ) are two things that are not

Client login delays - especially after reboot
I have just migrated to a new server and have Samba ver 3.0.12-5-SuSe running on a small network ( 7 win 98pcs) Logins are possible from all clients but morning logins (after client reboot) are delayed. It can take 2 or 3 attempts to successfully login. At each failed attempt the hour glass sits there for 30 seconds or so. logins usually succeed on the second or third attempt. I have searched

(no subject)
We had a running ipsec shorewall system to all of our remote offices. We added a dmz to the firewall and implemented proxy arp for that dmz. We have checked everything two or three times and cannot figure out why the vpns will no longer come up. We are using shorewall version 2.2.3 from the debian stable sarge distribution. We noticed the errata that for 2.0.0 there was a problem with proxy

XP clients & inexplicable pauses
Hi folks, I recently upgraded two client/server pairs to WinXP and Samba 2.2.6 (on Linux). Browsing mounted shares causes hangs when right-clicking or double-clicking/ launching files -- about 15 seconds. During this, precious little network activity is occuring. Something is hanging, locking, sleeping. Appreciate any advice. Hope it's a simple fix. If not, I'd appreciate advice on

RE: How to log and block specific application a ctivity
Have read the comments about Shorewall not being a personal firewall, etc., and am not necessarily advocating such use, but, trying to get into the poster''s head, and doing some creative thinking, thought that possibly some form of EGID rule might help out if there is a reasonable reason behind the question. It is not hard for me to see how something like this could be useful.

About Shorewall 1.3.14
It is my plan that the upcoming release of Shorewall (1.3.14) will definitely be the last of the 1.3.x releases and will very probably be the last release of Shorewall 1.x.x. I will continue to support Shorewall 1.3 but will be making no more enhancements to it. I will be devoting my time to Shorewall 2. If anyone is interested in taking over the development of Shorewall 1, please let me

[LLVM] (RFC) Addition/Support of new Vectorization Pragmas in LLVM
The ivdep pragma is designed to do exactly what the name states - ignore vector dependencies.  Cray Research first implemented this in 1978 in their CFT compiler, and has supported it since. This pragma is typically used by application developers who want vectorized code when the compiler cannot automatically determine safety; it is not equivalent to the OpenMP SIMD pragma in that the compiler is

Sensible, Manageable, CentOS puppetmaster?
I''ve been going round in circles a little bit in the last few days trying to figure out how to get a 64-bit CentOS-based puppetmaster that can be managed/provisioned via puppet also - so I''d like ruby, passenger, rails etc coming from RPMs and yum. As far as I can see, the three choices are: 1) Puppetlabs prosvc repo, which specifically says it can go away at any time 2)

accessing uploaded file on filesystem question.
Hi, I''m able to upload files onto my webserver filesystem but I had a question regarding how I''d go about accessing them using the <img src="..." > tag. If my files, i.e pictures, are being uploaded to public/images/<dir>/filename.jpg, then should I store the entire path, or just the picture name in my database table? I would imagine storing just the

Versioning of rust bindings
In the last patch, I let the version of Rust bindings be the same as the version of libguestfs. However, I came to think it is not preferable in terms of the custom of Rust crate versioning. After a version of a crate is published to crates.io, no one can republish the crate with the same version. This means that when there are some mistakes in the rust bindings, after they are fixed, it is
