Bizarre problems with two Samba in the same workgroup
I had to setup a new Samba server as a PDC in my job (Samba 3.0) to replace and existing Samba server PDC (Samba 2.2), the old server was running ldap as backend, the new is running tdbsam. I have a lot of bizarre problems when I put both in the same workgroup with other machines. I will give you a list of them: 1) The new server is configured as local master browser and domain master browser,

Listing Domain controllers, Local and Master Browsers running in your network
Hi, when trying to configure my samba server, I was curious if there's any Domain controller running on our subnet. I could only find notes in documentation of samba, that there has to be only one Domain Controller running, otherwise weird things would happen ... Btw what are those weird things? I couldn't find an option in smbclient or nmblookup to list for example Domain

Feature request: Samba4 acts as multi domain master browsers or multi local master browsers for multi groups !
Can somebody takes part in adding the following functionality to Samba4: It is necassary to do Samba4 computer as multi DMB or I think more likely as multi LMB for multigroups additionally to default main domain / group. That is necasary to add to Samba4 such functionality in Samba4 code and add to smb.conf at least 3 parameters: - multi browser support = yes/no - switch on / off this feature -

bug: inconsistent handling of workgroups > 15 chars leads to failed master browser elections
hi, when i give samba a workgroup name with more than 15 characters [the limit for netbios names], nmbd is unable to participate in browse master elections. it appears that parts of internal samba code honor 16 characters and parts only honor 15. details: i used a workgroup name of nodomain.nowhere, 16 characters, on samba 2.2.1a. the samba box was the only member of this workgroup on the

Could somebody please tell me how can I know what computers of one local network are setuped up as master browsers for a local workgroup? I mean, is it possible to use nmblookup or other command for this? what parameters are needed? I'm having problems with a workgroup for which smbclient -L server gives different results every certain time, e.g. from one week to another the results

Cross-subnet browsing
I have two domains which are on different subnets, connected by a routed OpenVPN tunnel. The domains trust each other. Domain A has the WINS server. Domain B is confused to use Domain A's WINS server. The VPN pushes the WINS server as part of its DHCP options as well. >From either domain, I am able to use smbclient to see the shares on the other domain's PDC. I have to specify -W

NT PDC forgets it's the domain master browser! Why???
I've seen this happen several times, and, short of rebooting the NT PDC, I can't seem to fix it. Background: We have two numbered networks in the building. We have an NT domain that has members on both numbered networks. To keep browse lists straight, I've designated Samba as the browse master on one of the networks. It's declared to be in the same workgroup as the NT primary

smbclient doesn't get browse list from XP master browser
I've spent hours searching the archives and online documentation, but still haven't been able to find the answer to my browse problem; I hope someone here can help. I'm trying to get smbclient to show the browse list from a windows xp machine that's the master browser on my subnet. I have a very simple home network (single subnet). My workgroup is 'arda'. domain master browser
I'd like my Samba server to be a Domain Master Browser for a workgroup (let's call it 'ENGINEER'). I set it up according to BROWSING.txt, but yet Windows NT/95 PCs on other subnets are unable to browse and see computers on this subnet (even if those PCs are also in the same workgroup). It appears that the Samba is not acting as the Domain Master Browser ... at least as far as

Browsing a workgroup in another subnet
I'm trying to determine if the global configuration options for remote announce and remote browse sync work for browsing a different workgroup in a different subnet. In the books I have, it just talks about using these options to span the same workgroup across two subnets. In our situation, for example, I have two different workgroups (WG1 - 10.50.50.1 and WG2 - 10.100.50.1). Each of these

Subnet with no NT server
I'm having a problem connecting from an NT workstation to a samba server on a different subnet. The NT workstation is the only Winxx machine on its subnet. I set samba to remote broadcast directly to this machine's IP address. I've also added this workstation to the lmhosts file on the server and added the server to the lmhosts file on the workstation. The workstation can see the

Samba streitet sich um Master Browser und wird kein PDC...
Dear all, since yesterday our samba PDC did "loose" his master status within our LAN for the domain "SRG" - since then windows boxes did not "see" the logon server anymore. nmblookup -T -M SRG is reporting some of the windows machines (one box running since more then a year...). - net rpc join -S SRG -U root (on the PDC works) - net rpc join -S 192.168.123.202

Can't resolve local names - Master Browser Issues? Production servers please help!!!!
I have 4 Linux servers all running samba. Everything has been working fine until yesterday. With no changes to the network or to the servers samba has quit working right. The problems all relate to samba not being able to look up names against the master browser. When I try to mount using a windows pc name I get this error... [root@fileserver pdk]# mount -t smbfs -o username=pdk, passowrd=XXXXX

Why???: [snip] > For about a week after the PDC is rebooted, everything is fine. > Clients on both networks can see all the machines in the domain, > indicating that Samba and the PDC are synchronizing browse > lists.
