Change winbindd UID mapping
Hi, I'm running Samba 3.6.6 on Ubuntu Quantal. I have a need to manually assign some of the UID mapping on a samba domain member file server. I have used tdbtool to add the correct mapping record to winbindd_idmap.tdb. However, I am at a loss as to how to force that change to "propagate" so as to show in the permissions structure of the file system and in the output of such

User accounts not getting complete group membership (getent group / groups mismatch)
We recently added a new LDAP/AD group to our domain, but have found that only some accounts on a Linux (Ubuntu 12.04.4, Samba 3.6.3) machine are getting the membership: "getent group <groupname>" shows them as being in the group, but "groups <username>" doesn't. I've tried restarting winbindd with the "-n" option to bypass caching, and deleting the

what are *.tdb files?
In /varcache/samba/ I have several .tdb files. Like brlock.tdb, locking.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb, etc. Excusing my ignorance, what are these files, and what do they do? And why must they be copied when migrating from one samba server to a new one?

CLASSIFY target documentation
Where can I find information on the CLASSIFY target? I saw it in some examples people posted on this list, but I cannot find it in the LARTC Howto or with Google. I need to classify packets into PRIO queues based on iptables rules. I am currently setting MARKs during classification. Unfortunately, if I understand correctly u32 cannot see marks because they''re not in the packet, so my

winbind cache time?
Hello, according to 'man smb.conf': Default: winbind cache time = 300 I have not changed it in smb.conf, but when I remove some user from some group, command "groups DOMAIN+user" still shows that user belongs to the group even after a few hours after removing the user from that group. Any ideas why? samba 3.0.15pre2. Regards, Nerijus

Modify and backup winbindd_idmap.tdb
Hello list, Is there a possibility to add entries to the winbindd_idmap.tdb manually? I know I can use tdbdump to see the entries, but is there a chance to modify? My problem is I have to map some uid to some Windows SID without using LDAP. On the other hand new user not having any uid in linux should map to the range of uid I defind by using idmap uid = 10000-20000 2nd Question: Is it

Understanding the difference of lock/state/cache directory
Hello, in Samba 3 I had all TDBs on one place configured through "lock directory". Now I saw that Samba 4 split the location of the database files into lock/state/cache directory. *Question 1*: The manpage says "state directory" is for persistent and "cache directory" for non-persistent data. Ok. That's clear. But what is stored in the "lock

Import idmap database error on classicupgrade process
You're right, man! Sorry! My mistake! I put that file because I read in somewhere about the persistent and temporary files regarding .tdb files. The winbindd_idamp.tbm was on that list, and I think that's why I left it in the folder. :D Another doubt. For the provisioning starts, I had to comment out the line referring to the ldap backend in the smb.conf of samba3. # passdb backend =

Not all users correctly winbind-ing on Server 2003 SP1 with 3.0.20b
Hi all This one has me baffled - leading me to beleive it could be a bug similar to https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2695 I am running samba 3.0.20b on debian unstable and am having problems with some users not resolving properly using winbind. wbinfo -u shows all users on the system, no problem wbinfo -a user%password works for any user getent passwd shows most but not all users

Winbind group cache
Hi All, I have hit a snag with winbind's group caching on AD on one of our client's infrastructure. We have a client that is using AD groups to control ssh access to servers. The client is running a lot of different bugfix and build versions in the 3.6 branch all running on RHEL using rpm's. I have seen this issue cropping up in the ML from time to time and most of the solutions

BUILTIN-Groups break winbind_idmap
Hello, i want to migrate from samba 3.2.6-37 (sernet-built on sles9) to 3.3.12-25 (sernet-built on debian lenny). It's a domain member server in an w2k3 ad with all company files on it. I migrated the smb.conf and moved the winbindd_idmap.tdb to the lenny server. The winbind idmap options are still the same with tdb as idmap backend and don't conflict with entries of /etc/group and
