print server performance issues
I'm migrating a 1.000 queues windows print server with AD very critical enviroment to linux/cups/samba solution. Initially, everything working fine, but when reached paroximately 400 queues created the server is getting degradated. The browsing of printers shares is very low. Many times during the day smbd and winbindd need to be restarted to stop the degradation. I didn't found any

testing a 2000 queues print server with smbtorture
Hi everyone, I'm very interested in samba testing subject. Because I need to plan a samba/cups/linux 2000 queues print server migration from W2K. But before that, I wanted to generate the service load before listen users claiming the server is running under a low performance. Somebody knows a good test set to simulate printing share connections from clients in my print server using

performance problems
My samba print server joined sucessfully to ADS domain is very slow. 100% CPU usage. I did a strace in smbd process: # strace -p 4519 -cfqrT % time seconds usecs/call calls errors syscall ------ ----------- ----------- --------- --------- ---------------- 76.37 359.200799 288 1249032 346 fcntl64 11.61 54.605778 236 231636 4 read 2.05

tdb search optimization
I'm running: # smbd -V Version 3.0.24-2.28-1354-SUSE-CODE10 In a 600 print queues print server, but I'm experiencing a low performance while using the first queue. I was attaching ltrace/strace to some processes with "use mmap=no" and I found a BIG difference in information gathering in ntprinters.tdb between the first and the last print queue (using alphabetical sorting). reference docs
I found this: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/Library/78a4be20-3f57-4b8d-a921- ac5d93665ff41033.mspx It?s a reference document saying that microsoft print server with hardware like the HP/Compaq DL560 or DL580 with 1.5GB RAM, high-performance disks and sufficient network throughput can host approximately 1,500 printers, serving 5,000-10,000 customers. Maybe could I find some

trust domain list
Hi everybody. When using the command: # net rpc trustdom list what is the difference in output between: The "trusted" domains list and "trusting" domains list? Which operations are performed in both actions? My example: net rpc trustdom list Trusted domains list: DOMA S-1-5-21-790525478-1844823847-725345543 DOMB

trusted domains and disconnected domains
Hi, I'm running samba-3.0.22, linux-kernel-2.6.16 and I'm having troubles with trusted domains. How can I find the suitable DC for each domain? Could be a resolution issue? Bellow my smb.conf and some tests. [global] workgroup = DOM1 netbios name = localhost server string = LOCALHOST Server security = ads realm = MYDOMAINCONTROLLERREALM

Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
Hi I am currently using Samba 3.0.11 and Cups 1.1.23 with Windows PostScript drivers and manufacturer PPDs on WinXP clients. When I print multiples copies of a document from a Windows XP box, the number of copies appearing in the Cups "page_log" file always takes the "1" value but the printer prints the correct number of copies. When I do the same on Linux (with the lpr

Print Server Degradation
Our Samba print server seems to slowly degrade, and get more and more errors over time, until it starts recieving "tdb fetch failed" messages, fatal errors, and getting INTERNAL PANIC's and dumping core etc.... I believe this to be related to .tdb corruption, but the tdbbackup utility does not see any problem with the TDB's. Eventually, certain printers will go

Performance degradation on multi-processor system
Hi, We are seeing performance degradation when running the same R script in multiple instances of R on a multi-processor system. We are a bit surprised by this because we figured that each instance of R is running in its own processor, and therefore running a second, third or fourth instance should not affect the performance of the first instance. Here's a test script that exhibits this

"Access Denied" if printing after logoff
Dear users, I have Samba (3.0.28a) currently configured to share CUPS (1.3.7) printers on a Ubuntu (8.04 hardy) server, using LDAP for authentication. After installing a printer (accessing the Samba share and inputting the user's password), everything is fine and printing works fine. But after restarting the computer (or simply logging off), the user gets an "Access Denied"

Graceful degradation of signal
Hello all. In the shower the other day (where most of this sort of musing gets done, eh?) I was thinking about graceful degradation of audio signals. Let me apologise in advance if these are elementary concepts or if I demonstrate a complete lack of insight -- I don't rate even a dabbler status in the area of audio codecs. Anyway: If we have a 128kbs signal coming down a *udp* channel with

Call quality degradation after time
Thanks for the reply, Adam. If this is the case, it would seem to me (because the degradation happens only after a period of time, and quite suddenly) that the issue lies with digium's implementation of g729. As an interesting note, I had the same problems using ulaw -> ulaw over the local network (from internal phone to internal phone) with a much shorter period of 'good
