Storing passwords in LDAP, but not a PDC
Hello, Is it possible to store samba passwords in ldap without configuring samba as a PDC? All the documents/references I've come across are related to using LDAP as a samba PDC backend, not as just a db file replacement. Thanks, David Filion

openvpn
I have a workgroup server with samba operating well and have configured openvpn on it. That also seems to be working well. I also have other servers at different locations with samba/openvpn working. To access the openvpn server I use Windows and manually map a drive to a drive letter using U: as \\servername\sharename The shares work but I am mapping _through_ the samba server - that is I have

file corruption
Hi to all! I've been using samba for about six months: I've set up a file server, replacing a small windows 2000 server. I'm using samba 3.0.21c on a linux slackware 10.2. It is used to share two spreadsheet programs and file connected to them... Everything runs fine, except for a file, which is processed and saved several times in a day. After few weeks, this files got corrupted and

"Windows couldn't connect to the printer" 0x00000709 when using server short name
Hi all, Samba 4.3.11 is serving printers in my office from a server called "printserver". If a Windows 7 client tries to reach it using a short name \\prinserver , it can see the list of printers, but can't connect to any of them: "Windows couldn't connect to the printer" pop-up appears immediately. Weirdly, it doesn't happen all the times, sometimes it can

Failed to set delete on close flag
HiHo! I don't know wether this is an old one, but I've never seen this messages before: Due to security issues I updated our servers to samba-2.2.8 with the following "configure"-options: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba-2.2.8 --with-pam --with-ldapsam --with-syslog --with-quotas --with-acl-support After the update I'm experiencing strange behaviour when deleteing

SAMBA+LDAP in a Workgroup
Hi, This may be a dumb question (I'm new with this), but is it possible to use SAMBA in combination with LDAP in a Workgroup? All the manuals and examples I can find, are talking about Domains and PDCs. I have to set up a new Samba server and checkout LDAP but I'm not allowed to change the Workgroup settings... Now we use smbpasswd... Is LDAP worth the effort and time? Kind

Gluster replicate 3 arbiter 1 in split brain. gluster cli seems unaware
Hey, Can you give us the volume info output for this volume? Why are you not able to get the xattrs from arbiter brick? It is the same way as you do it on data bricks. The changelog xattrs are named trusted.afr.virt_images-client-{1,2,3} in the getxattr outputs you have provided. Did you do a remove-brick and add-brick any time? Otherwise it will be trusted.afr.virt_images-client-{0,1,2} usually.

Linux and Printing via smbprint
Hi there Looking at the archives I didn't find a solution to the following problem we have here: Printing from our linux-server (wagner) to an intel printserver (PS652D8F) doesn't work. Here's the stuff we know/tried: wagner:~ # smbclient -L //PS652D8F -N added interface ip=10.0.0.10 bcast=10.0.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Got a positive name query response from 10.0.0.40 ( 10.0.0.40

printing via embedded USB printserver
hi, I'm having trouble printing with smbclient via an embedded USB printserver. This printserver is a nifty little $35 box with an Ethernet jack and a USB jack that provides network access to your USB printer as a Windows share (a poor man's Jetdirect, if you will). I can connect to the printer with smbclient, but when I try to print anything, even a small text file, I always get the

I've been able to reproduce the same postive and negative results in two physical servers and now (finaly destination) a vmware server. What's working: ADS integration, this is a domain member Printer driver installation (for a few drivers) Printer installation / removal Printing. What's not working:

samba3 and cups printserver
Hello, I've got an rh9 box which i am using for printing. I've got cups configured and my printer is working fine. Originally, i intended to use samba 2.2.x for printing, but then i saw that 3.0 was out so i installed it's rpm instead. My first of many questions, for printing to work correctly, samba and cups, what must be specified in terms of the printing line in smb.conf, bsd or

Running RH6.0 I am able to print just fine from linux, the problem now is getting smb printing working. I am using an Intel Netport Express PRO/100 printserver. Previous to my upgrade from RH5.2 when I had the printer directly connected to the samba server, I was able to print just fine from the windows client machines (not using the raw method) My /etc/printcap is as follows ##PRINTTOOL3##

I have a Xerox 440 printer, an HP 4500 PS and an HP 4550 PS printer using my Samba printserver.
