cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server.
The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import
NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the
same domain but from trusted domains.
Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new
versions of cups and samba. (I'm on Debian

Staus of Sernet Debian packages?
Has anybody out there tried the Debian packages offered by
sernet? The seem to be ina not-yet-usable state right now.
(E.g. the scripts normally found in /etc/init.d seem to be
missing.)

script to automatically install printers to win clients?
Hi
I have a samba server 3.0.0-15 acting as a PDC on a
Windows domain (98, XP and 2000). Is there a way to
automatically install printers to windows clients
when users log in? Maybe by running a logon
script...
Thank you in advance.

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations?
What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which
sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which
workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer?
So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here:

But somehow I feel it

samba banner string
Hi list!
I need your expertise.
How do I do to rid of the banner "SAMBA 3.0.14a on debian on sarge
(pdcsrv)"
I can see that when I use the M$ server tools and I've tried to rewrite the
string but when I click "ok" the string still the same, what I mean is that
no matter what I write there it doesn't change.
I use JXplorer to navigate throw my ldap

Samba 3.0.22 PDC - "The parameter is incorrect"
Hi everyone;
I have searched the internet up & down for an answer to this problem. I'm stumped.
Here's what I've got:
Samba 3.0.22 configured as a PDC using tdbsam as the passdb backend (switching to LDAP when I get everything working).
testparm says everything is fine. I've added the root user and a normal user to the database (using smbpasswd). I even went so

How to allow only particular users to logon to a particular computer?
Guys,
I have a pc (already joinned the samba domain 'DOMAIN') that I want to keep
off other domain users but user DOMAIN\mark and DOMAIN\thomas whilst letting
both of them to logon freely to other computers. I tried
sambaUsersWorkstations but it only works with uid (Users not Computers) and
it dictated which computer such a user may logon to. What I want is the
opposite: which users may

rpc trust gives NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE with 3.0.11
When I try to establish a trust from SAMBA 3.0.11 to Windows 2003 I get the
error: NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE. I have no problem the other way. I had no
problem either, when I ran SAMBA 3.0.9, and the problem disappeared when I
down-graded to 3.0.9.
Here is what happens ('CALYPSO' is the Windows-server and 'KONTOR' is its
domain-name):

Roaming profiles not supporting quota
Dear Group,
I'm using samba 3.x as a PDC, and I'm using linux system quota v2 for samba.
Here is my problem: if a user copies a big file to the desktop (bigger than the quota set for that
user), when he logs off, the profile wont syncronize with the server with the message "disk full".
Is there a way to let the WinXp client to understand how much space is available also for

Samba 3.0 and XP roaming profiles
Hello friends,
I am running Samba 3.0 on RHEL4 server. Around 200 roaming profiles are also
configured and they login to XP machines. Things are working for us except
in network rollout scenarios. We dont know how to roll out patches or some
global changes to all the profiles. We have to visit each and every profile
(loggin each of them) to do even the small changes. Today we have to map a

Hi,
I am running sernet-samba 3.0.21a-6 (Debian) with winbind as a member server in a
(NT4-)domain.
When trying to assign ACLs from a Windows 2000 client in Windows Explorer, I get
the error message
"Object Picker cannot open because it cannot determine whether nt04001 is joined to a
domain." ...
At the same time I get error messages in smdb.log:

Samba 3.0.25a idmap_ldap "ldap suffix" used instead of "idmap config <DOMAIN>:ldap_base_dn"
Hi,
I'm trying to setup a samba domain controler trusting a NT4 domain.
and want to use Idmap information already stored in an LDAP location.
smb.conf snippets are below. I'm not getting this to work. What I see,
reading log.winbindd-idmap at log level 10 is that search for Idmap
entries seems to use the "ldap suffix" parameter instead of the
idmap config

No subject
Hi,
A few weeks ago I announced a rewritten PROFILES.txt on the mailing
list.
It is available on http://users.iafrica.com/p/pc/pcs/profiles.txt
The idea of it is to explain exactly how NT and 95 handles roaming
profiles and then specify how to set up samba to enable both to handle
roaming profiles.
Most of the document it finished, and I would like to contribute it, but
I have a few things to

I suggest reading the man page for 'hwclock'. Namely, the --utc
option. If you don't tell your system that the BIOS is stored as UTC,
then it will assume it's

Printer drivers, document defaults
Hi,
I recently posted several mails concerning my problems with samba 2.2.0
acting as a server for printer drivers. The drivers are downloaded to
the Windows clients, but the document defaults get muddled up. Even if
I set the document defaults to German Page Size "A4", applications insist
in setting the doucment page size to "Legal" or "Letter".
Is there anyone

Non-root accounts cannot join the Samba PDC:s domain
I have a Samba PDC with LDAP as its back end. It works perfectly
except for one major detail: Non-root users cannot join the Samba PDC.
I change the domain on Windows XP clients like this:
1. Log in as administrator on an Windows XP client
2. Change domain with Control Panel -> System -> Computer name ->
"Change..." and in the Domain field, I enter the name of the Samba
