Q: mount -t smbfs: "cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have disabled it."
Hi, I was trying smbmount (SuSE's samba-client-3.0.20b-3.4). The mount command replied: cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have disabled it. 9451: protocol negotiation failed SMB connection failed No I'd suggest to change the message at least: It's unclear who "we" is: The Samba Team, the client, or the server The server is a "Windows 2003 server",

problems mounting Win2003 Server Share - smbclient is working smbmount is not
Hi, this is my first post to this list. I have to mount an Win2003 SmallBusinessServer share to my linux box. So far so good. The user "user" exists with the same pass on the linux-box like in the ActiveDirectory at the Win2003-Server. I added the user with smbpasswd -a user . I joined the domain with: net rpc join -S domain -U user mount -t smbfs -o username=user, workgroup=domain,rw

samba3 to Win 2003, signing mandatory but disabled?
I am trying to get samba working again, since my employer upgraded to a Windows Server 2003. I have installed samba-3.0.2a-1_rh9.i386.rpm to my Linux (RedHat 9) system. I can connect to other machines in my domain, read/write files, etc. When I try smbmount on the Windows server, I get this error: cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have disabled it. I have tried enabling SMB

cifs error 13
We had a new server put in on our local network and I am unable to mount it's file shares - mount -t smbfs works on the old server but it doesn't work on the new one because of the SMB signing problem. However, I cannot get mount -t cifs to work on either of them. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Thx vperry successful commands: 1) smbstatus calserver01 2)

smbmount deprecated - what about Windows 9x?
Hallo, I've just installed Kernel 2.6.25.2 - works fine. But now when I use "smbmount" for mounting shares from my Win9x clients the system (kernel) tells me smbfs is deprecated and will be removed from the 2.6.27 kernel. Please migrate to cifs. But at least Win9x seems not to like cifs. Mounting via smbfs works since years, mounting (with the same options) via cifs

smbpasswd stops working post-upgrade
Background I have a network of machines behind an air-gap, therefore upgrades are a tedious business normally performed four times per year. The systems run various versions of CentOS and I use the Samba that is distributed with CentOS. Last weekend I updated the 5.7 machines with updates to 18 April 2016, not the current 5.8. Those of my users who run Windows boxes (Windows 7 Enterprise)

forcing XP clients to use CIFS
Hi Guys! Anyone know how can I do this trick? I guess there is a registry value for it. As I noticed winxp try to use smbfs first not cifs. In linux it's easier because you can choose when you mount your shares. Regards, Jax

[patch] smbmount fixes for samba-2.0.7, testers wanted!
Hello all This patch tries to remove a few bugs from smbmount. It would be nice to get some testing+feedback on this from others using smbmount and possibly get these things fixed for the next release of samba. It does the following: * Change lib/debug.c to allow changing your mind on being interactive. A second call to setup_logging should now replace the effects of a previous call. (hmm,

Got strange message when using wbinfo/winbind on Samba-3 beta3
Hi, I have joined a ADS (W2003 server) with success. Started winbindd. When I run any wbinfo commands I recieve the following message in the logfile and the command fails: cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have disabled it. I am using the same smb.conf as for beta1 and beta2. What have changed or what have missed ? I am running on Solaris 9. My smb.conf file [global]

Cannot connect to a windows network
Hello, I am trying to use Samba to let me mount windows network drives on an Ubuntu Dapper Server installation that I am using as a desktop. Using: testparm my smb.conf seems to be ok. Using smbclient -L GM.local -U username -p Gives me a full listing of all network drives, which again seems to be good. So now I try this: sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=username \//GM.local/DC4

Mounting Shares from a Windows Server 2003 DC
I know this question has been asked several times, and I appoligize for this being as long as it is, but I'm hoping someone may have it figured out by now. Here is the situation: I can mount a share from my Windows XP machine (RA), and from another Windows Server 2003 machine (MAAT). But not from my Windows Server 2003 domain controller (BASTET). I am running Samba 3.0.0 (standard RPM

Can't see shares, and also smbmount works but mount -t cifs doesn't
Hi (this is most likely a newbie question). A couple of problems. I have a linux guest (puppy) running on vmplayer on a friend's machine, which runs WinXP home. I have folder sharing enabled on the host for a few different folders. I am trying to mount the winxp host shared folders onto the linux guest. First problem is that I can't seem to see the shares. smbtree only lists the

CIFS Proxy Server
Does anyone have knowledge of any CIFS Proxy Servers or using Samba as a Proxy to another CIFS/SMB Server? Are there any documents or resources on this topic? I am trying to implement a general purpose CIFS Proxy Server (the proxy server would implement some authentication and authorization for the SMB requests) which can proxy CIFS servers like Samba or Windows. One particularly hard problem
