Problem: authorise_login: refusing user with no session setup
Hi, We are running Samba-2.2.6pre2 as a PDC with Win2kSP2-clients and we had the same problem running samba-2.2.5 and Win2k. We had NT4-client running previous versions of samba-2.2.x and have never had the same problem. Samba is compiled from source on Solaris8 running YP. We have everything up and running but sometimes users get a dialog-box just saying "Access denied" when they

What is so bad about primaryGroupID=513?
I try to set up Samba 2.2.4 / LDAP as a PDC and it almost works. The only thing I don't understand is why a domain user can't have a primaryGroupID of 513 (which looks like it should be a safe default). But if I set it, login is denied with an error C0000078 on the client, and something like [2002/06/03 10:32:28, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(314) setting sec ctx (65534, 65534) -

win2k will not authenticate when logging in
For a few weeks now we have been trying to research why our domain will not authenticate when we are logging in. The Samba logs indicate that our computers properly add into the domain, however after rebooting and attempting to log in we recieve an error message stating that our computer account is not in the domain. After reading the logs we have realized that Samba is indeed recieving and

samba log filled with Invalid vuid message
Today, in only a few hours, the samba log file has been filled (up to 10G!) with this message; [2006/06/15 16:48:24, 2] smbd/uid.c:change_to_user(247) change_to_user: Invalid vuid used 100 in accessing share disco5. Our current samba version is samba-3.0.21c, and it has been running without any problem for a month. Any ideas about what happened? Thanks in advance. Emilio C.

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello! I'm running into an issue where users log into their Win2k/NT4.0 workstations, download their profiles off of our Samba 2.2.5 server, map home, miscellaneous shares, and printers on it, and then randomly during their session they cannot open these remote devices. They receive an "Access Denied" message when trying to do anything

First write fails subsequent succeeds
I have been having a problem that has had me scratching my head for the last week and a half. I have searched with google, read the 13th hour troubleshooting guide (stopped when it got to the sniffer diagnostics), and have even upgraded samba to 3.0.0. I will post a description followed by a level 4 debug log file. When a user opens the "Public" share they can browse the share without

homes share mapping problem in samba 3
The homes share is not mapping properly anymore once upgrading to samba 3. This works without problems in samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0. However I have seen this problem consistently in 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3 and 3.0.4; if I go back to 2.2.8a then the problem goes away. I have searched the newsgroups and others have had the same problem, but no one had found a solution and said that "homes" as a

homes share mapping problem in samba 3
Hi, I had tried posting this to the newsgroups twice but never got a response. Please see below...is mapping to \\server\homes no longer supported in samba 3.0.1 or above? Please let us know; thanks! The homes share is not mapping properly anymore once upgrading to samba 3. This works without problems in samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0. However I have seen this problem consistently in 3.0.1, 3.0.2,

Machine trust relationship failed
Hi, I am having trouble joining a Win2K machine to a Samba domain. The Win2K machine is patched and up-to-date. The Samba machine is running Debian Sarge and Samba 3.0.14a-Debian. The passdb-backend is OpenLDAP, but I don't think this is relevant; I have tried with tdbsam as well, and had exactly the same results. I have been mainly following this guide:

Problem with domain membership
Hello, I have a Samba 3.0.11/LDAP-Backend PDC configured and I am able to join all kinds of machines quite well. Clients hang on file access - Samba 3.0.6
Hi all, I've included copies of the relavent files below. I'm having a bit of a problem with Samba in that when I try to access files on its shared resources, I can browse to the shares fine, but the moment I try to open a file, the client's file browser hangs. I've verified that this is a problem on both my Mac (OS X 10.3.4), my Windows XP SP2 and WIndows XP SP1 machines. I'm

Domain Controller either fails to acquire or loses client machine identities after several hours
I am trying to use samba (version 3.0.24-4 on debian etch AMD64) as a primary domain controller and file server. When I try to set up the domain controller - it sometimes works. On occasion, I have been able to connect WinXP Pro machines, log in to the clients use domain accounts. However, the next morning after I had it working, I can no longer log into the machines. PDC + LDAP, cannot access LDAP when not root
I'm using Debian Sarge, Samba (3.1.14a) with the ldapsam backend, and OpenLDAP (2.2.23). When attempting to join an Windows XP+SP2 computer (BILLGATES) to my domain (WORKGROUP), using the Administrator account, I am told by windows: 'Access denied.' The logs (attached) seem to indicate that the user Administrator is being authenticated (which would have? to use LDAP), but when It

can join a domain, but users are not able to log in
Hi, I have a samba server which should act as a domain controller. I did not set up the server by myself. I can "see" and use the servers shares with windows and linux clients. Everithing - including the security settings - for the shares works as expected. I can join a client to the domain, this works with manual adding the machine account as well as with the adduser script . I

winbind: authenticating UNIX user before Win Domain user
We have a samba 3.0.7 server on RHEL-3 (rain) joined as a domain member (security = domain) to a win2k pdc (clouds) for the domain DOM. We have several unix users and two Win-only users. The unix users have matching AD accounts on the win2k, but the Win-only users do not have unix accounts (and we want to keep it that way). So, it seemed that winbind would be the best way to bridge the gap: 1.
