creating users from w2k with usrmgr and samba 3.0.1
Hello everybody!
New to Samba (and the list) I am trying to set up a Samba PDC for a small
enterprise network on a Debian Woody (3.0) system with a vanilla 2.4.24
kernel and the Debian package of Samba 3.0.1 and Swat (Debian Versions
3.0.1-2).
I ran into various problems and could solve most of them during the past two
weeks (hooray!). Most of the problems were related to congestions of user

net rpc group addmem returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi All,
I'm trying to add a user to a group using
/usr/local/samba/bin/net rpc group addmem room11 dunk -Uroot%password
The user is added to the group as far as I can tell but the command
returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
This is on Solaris 10 (Sparc) and Samba 3.2.1, OS and Samba are both
configured to lookup users and groups in LDAP.

srvtools (Usrmgr.exe) : strange problem
Hello everybody. I have noted a strange problem when using Usrmgr.exe
(from srvtools). The problem arise when a net groupmap is done on a
group for which a user exist with the same name that the specified
unixgroup. For example, lets say that I have the following UNIX user and
group create on my Samba server :
joe (in /etc/group)
joe (in /etc/passwd)
Now I create the following map :

Roaming profiles and USRMGR.EXE
I'm using Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06.1 as PDC for our Windows
workstations. The passdb backend is tdbsam.
I want to employ roaming profiles and due to the fact that we have a
mixed Windows environment (Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro) I have
the following entry in my smb.conf:
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a
Basically, this works fine. If a user is working on a W2k workstation,

Acces denied with usrmgr.exe
Hi
I am trying to use usrmgr.exe in order to manage users and groups on my samba server PDC (passdb backend = tdbsam ) .
I have the following strange behavior of usrmgr.exe :
* when I launch usrmgr.exe from a user account that is part of the Domain Admins group or that explicitly has the
SeAddUsersPrivilege privilege, I can see the list of users and groups , and create a new user, BUT when I

Reloading in usrmgr.exe
usrmgr.exe administration works for me.
However, sometimes it is necessary to reopen the domain up to couple
of times until the administration starts working.
Allegedly also it's not necessary to press F5-reload after adding
an user on Windows NT. However didn't test it, never used Windows NT
for adding users on an Windows NT DC :) With Samba, I always have to
press F5-reload in

Making unix system accounts invisible in USRMGR.EXE
I have a Samba (3.0.22) server (working on Ubuntu 6.06.1) acting as NT
PDC. My passdb backend is tdbsam.
I'm using USRMGR.EXE from Microsoft for user account administration. In
USRMGR.EXE I see all accounts, unfortunately also Ubuntu's system
accounts (like proxy, sync, sshd etc.). Is there any way to make them
invisible for USRMGR.EXE?
Cheers

Samba3beta3 + PDC + LDAP + UsrMgr.exe prob
Heya all,
So I've finally got a machine on this Samba 3 domain. Yey. Its an XP Pro
box, so I grabbed the UsrMgr.exe and SrvMgr.exe programs from Microsoft,
and hoped to at least use UsrMgr to see lists of users, maybe even as a
full User manager, since I can't find a decent one that does all the samba3
stuff.
Anyway, I'm on the domain, and I run the UsrMgr.exe program and I get an

can't open/create local group with usrmgr
Hi Samba users,
First I can't open/create local group with usrmgr.
Second creating global group and user is working, [third] but adding users
to this [global] group failed..
I do this as yaya that has policy rights for everything, like "Domain
Admins" has, and when I do it as root, it still doesn't work.
Here's some infos:
[root@sma-server-1 ~]# rpm -qa | grep samba

Re: USRMGR, groups, and ldap
I was experiencing the same problems as detailed below.
I found that my OpenLDAP Samba (samba.schema) in /etc/ldap/schema was
out of date; I have now replaced it with the latest version from the
Samba source (3.0.23d).
The correct number of domain groups are now reported with 'net rpc info'
and the groups are visible from the Windows XP dialog boxes and USRMGR.

error in using usrmgr.exe
Hello:
I have set up samba PDC using samba 3.0.11. When I use
the usrmgr.exe tool on NT4 machine to add user to the
domain, it prompts and says: "The following error
occurred changeing properties of the user mary: fail
find the group" (The error msg actually appears as
Chinese in my computer, I just translate the error
message).
Then I check with the samba log file and it said:

Hi everyone.
I have a problem when using samba together with usrmgr. When adding a
global group I get an error message. The group is still created. You
can't see before you refresh but that's a minor detail.

usrmgr.exe does not show any Samba groups
Hi,
We are running samba 3.0.28 on RHEL 5 as a PDC serving around 1000
active users . This domain was vampired from aWindows NT 4 domain a few
years ago. OpenLDAP 2.2.13 is used as the back end user database. One
of the problems we have is that usrmgr.exe does not display any
groups. I can use usrmgr to create users, delete users and create
groups. But I cannot use it to delete groups

Samba 3 beta 1, LDAP and USRMGR
Hi,
I've now got my Samba 3 domain successfully configured apart from a minor
detail. When I use USRMGR to try and add a new user I get "The filename,
directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect". About 10 minutes ago I
successfully joined this machine to the domain and tested that the server
correct adds all my details to the LDAP server. I'm confused, if you tell

USRMGR add groups
I am running samba 3.0.0. When using USRMGR most functionality works,
but I can't get it to create a group. If I run the script by hand, it
creates the UNIX group and echos out the GID. In Windows the error
message is:
"The following error occured creating the global group groupname:
The group name could not be found"
The delete user and delete group functions work, but give an

Where could I start to find the problem?
Thanks.

Question about USRMGR.EXE and user profiles.
Hello,
I am trying to find and easy way for end users to add Samba accounts to a
Linux server. Some of my end users are schoot teachers, and they have to add
tens of students to their Samba servers.
I have a running Linux with Samba, configured upon the directions of Samba-3
by example, chapter 3, "Secure Office Networking", this is Samba with
tdbsam, not LDAP.
I can create accounts
