GUEST_SESSSETUP as an smb.conf parameter?
JdL> I've always been afraid to ask, but here goes... JdL> What's the advantage of GUEST_SESSSETUP being a compile time parameter, JdL> instead of having it as an smb.conf parameter? I'd like to second this question! Also, just in case that it will not become an smb.conf parameter: can't it be added as a comment to the Makefile (probably near the comments to

Cannot access Samba shares after latest update
Yesterday (12/17/16), I updated my Centos 7 machine with the latest updates. Prior to the updates both my Windows 10 and Centos 7 machines were able to access Samba shares hosted on a Fedora 25 server. After rebooting the Centos 7 machine, I get the dreaded "Unable to access location --- Failed to receive share list from server --- Connection refused" message when trying to mount the

would be nice ...
if R had something like > python -c "print(sum([1,2,3]));print(3*2)" 6 6 but I guess the only way to do this is by writing the string to a tmp file and then doing something like "R CMD BATCH --quiet" on the tmp file I would like to use this for an R service, which allows you to select any string in any application and replace it by its R evaluation === Jan de Leeuw;

RAqua now builds fine, but for some reason tcl/tk support cannot be compiled in. I get checking for /Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework/tclConfig.sh... /Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework/tclConfig.sh checking for /Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/tkConfig.sh... /Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/tkConfig.sh checking whether compiling/linking Tcl/Tk code works... no This is with configure

BLAS/Lapack on OS X
R-devel has the --with-lapack flag for configure. If you build R with --with-blas="-framework vecLib" --with-lapack="--framework vecLib" then the build goes through, using the native optimized BLAS and Lapack in /System/Library/Frameworks/vecLib.framework. Also, it works, in the sense that it does eigenvalue problems correctly. I don't have any timings yet, because I

copy files to windows thru smbmount
hello i have this strange problem: i've ounted up a windows share on my linux machine, and tryign to copy a file to it, which is bigger than 2gbs, and it fails with a "maximum file size exceeded" error. the linux is running ext3, and windows is ntfs, so the size limit must be somewhere in samba. i've read on http://www.mail-archive.com/samba@lists.samba.org/msg10412.html

functions
I wrote some functions for multiway CANDECOMP, i.e. for least squares fitting of a_{i_1\cdots i_m}\approx\sum_{s=1}^p x^1_{i_1s}x^1_{i_1s}\cdots x^m_{i_ms} with arrays of arbitrary dimension. Reminded me of the good old APL days. I could not find this in the archives, but if it's already there, I would appreciate if someone let me know.

type conversion
Hi All, I am confused by a type conversion happening against my intent. In an R script I allocate a matrix X, and I pass it to a C function by using tmp -< .C(..., as.double(X),...). I use as.double() because I read that it makes sure that the parameter passing is correct. I return the matrix from the R script using: return (list(..., X = tmp$X, ...)) The returned value is not a matrix

make fails for 1.7.0 on mac os x 10.1
I've been running a binary installation (kindly provided by Jan de Leeuw) on mac G4, but was inspired this morning to try to install 1.7.0 on the G4 as well as on my desktop solaris box. This worked smoothly on my solaris system but on the G4 the make dies shortly after compiling lapack with: /usr/bin/libtool: internal link edit command failed make[4]: *** [libRlapack.dylib] Error 1 make[3]:

RAqua
Small things, mostly. 1. Buildproblem. Well-known and annoying. Build fails if debugging is on (which is the default) because Debugging.h breaks devQuartz.c compiles. If debugging is switched off on the command line or in the environment, then devQuartz.c builds, but aquaconsole.c does not compile, because it needs Debugging.h. I do not want to edit Apple system files, and not files in the R

R version on gifi
Pretty soon, hopefully, the RAqua version will make the Darwin/X11 version unnecessary. In the meantime, for convergence, I'll modify the Gifi version in various ways. -- It's 1.7.1 -- It no longer supports gnome -- It still uses Tcl/Tk for X11 (using 8.5 from CVS) !! It no longer uses anything from fink (readline and dlcompat as on Stefano's site, jpeg and png and teTeX from

libR.dylib on OS X
If one installs the CLI and RAqua versions, by saying both "make install" and "make install-aqua", then packages that use libR.dylib get their symbols from /Applications/StartR.app/RAqua.app/Contents/Frameworks/libR.dylib and not from /usr/local/lib/R/bin/libR.dylib. That's unfortunate, because the first is likely to change, and the second is not. For instance, what
