Authentication problems with Windows clients
I have installed Samba 2.0.4b on AIX 4.3.1 but cannot get it to authenticate Windows clients. The error that I get is 'The password is incorrect'. However when I use smbclient on the AIX box to connect to the shared resource it connects no problem. The only way that I can get a Windows client to connect is by putting the server into share mode and setting the share as guest allowable.

Password server behaves differently for clients from Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise
Hi, I have been using Samba as a file server and a domain controller in a mixed AIX/Windows environment for a long time. Due to changes in the network infrastructure in my lab, I have to stop using my own LDAP server and Samba domain controller, and migrate all my user accounts to a central proprietary directory server. On AIX, I now use a proprietary loadable authentication module on AIX to talk

samba-3.3.4 AD/krb5/pam build failure on AIX 5.3/6.1 UNKNOWN_CREATE_KEY_FUNCTIONS
Hi all! Perhaps someone here could tell me if this has been seen before. We're trying to build samba-3.3.4 for IBM AIX with support for PAM, Active Directory, and Kerberos. The end goal is to be able to join the AIX system to our Active Directory domain so that users can log in via their AD username/password, and have access to their home directory via the Windows pass-through authentication

After IBM realized that it could use an economical complement in Linux, it saw

Digital UNIX - root authentication for SWAT
We have installed versions (1.9.18 and 2.0.3) of Samba successfully on AIX based servers without any problems. We are now trying to install Samba v2.0.4b onto a Digital UNIX 4.0d server. Everthing has installed correctly. Shares can be created through editing the smb.conf file and then accessed correctly through our NT network as desired. The problem we have is using the SWAT interface. We can

SWAT and restart
OS: AIX 4.3.3 (All latest patches) Samba: 2.0.7 Compiler: IBM C/C++ 3.6.6 Just a question about restarting smbd using swat. I use to set up a loop to kill -9 all the ?mbd's and restart samba for changes to take effect. I've noticed some strange behavior - especially with Office 2K Premium - that if I have Word open and I restart samba through SWAT, Word dies and displays a message about

RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate
I have had this problem before. Never really got to the bottom of it but if you want to get on then just add '-a' to your swat command to disable authentication. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Myers [mailto:myersjj@us.ibm.com] Sent: 07 November 2002 21:08 To: SAMBA@SAMBA.ORG Subject: RE: [Samba] RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate I had already done that, so it must be

RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate
Did you make sure localhost resolves? Also, depending on your /etc/resolv.conf, you may have to fully qualify the host's name including the DNS domain. I seem to rember having problems with this, and some combination of using localhost or hostname.domain.edu or using the actual IP address of the host cleared up the problem. vorbis-tools segfault on aix 4.3
Hello, I try to compile and run vorbis-tools on AIX 4.3. I already compiled libao, libogg and libvorbis and installed it into ${HOME}/vorbis/usr (all being rc2). All libraries compiled and installed without complaining, the same goes for vorbis-tools. The system is powerpc-ibm-aix4.3.3.0 with gcc-2.95.2 (no other gnu utils used for building, I suspect this being the cause for the segfaults I

SSH authentication order on AIX
I'm trying to get to the bottom of an issue with key authentication on AIX and I'm not sure I believe IBM's answer so I thought I'd post here to see what answer I'd get from the SSH side. We have three different methods of authentication - local, VAS (AD), NIS. On our Linux and Solaris servers it's very simple to set the authentication order with nsswitch.conf and SSH

Delegate Samba4 user authentication to an external LDAP server
Hi Rowland yes you got it right, I have a samba 4 installation and I'd like to delegate the authentication to an external ldap server. I have noticed that in samba 4 we do not have the attribute "password", so my question is: if I use Samba4+Openldap (as backend) and in OpenLdap I manually add the attribute "password" to each user entry, and password as a link to SASL

swat and the print command field
I've been using SWAT to configure SAMBA for file and print serving at the organization I work at, and I ran into a hitch. The print command we use in smb.conf is "enq -r -c -o"-dc" -P%p %s". After SWAT updates (and when it starts up), the print command in the SWAT display is shortened to "enq -r -c -o". The proper print command is saved into smb.conf, but it needs

Newbie questions?
I have the book, "The Official Samba-3 Howto and Reference Guide" and I'm trying to get 3.0.22 running on Aix 5.2. All I want to do is setup some file sharing at the moment and map a drive from an XP pc to a directory on Aix. We have a Windows domain setup, the domain name is mobot.org. The Aix server is named mobot. I've been searching through the archives for

Problem with --link-dest when syncing AIX to Linux
Hello, i'm using rsync 2.6.0 for daily-syncing some remote AIX 5.2 machine to a local linux (RH 7.3) with using the --link-dest option for saving space on incremental backups. Even if there are no changes on the AIX machine, all files are newly transferred on every new sync. Install 3.4.3 problem
Dear all, I have been given the task of replacing the hardware we inherited from an outsourcing deal some time ago. The live server is AIX 5.2 running Samba 2.0.7. The replacement server is running AIX 6.1 and GNU C compiler version 4.2.0-3. We are not licenced for the IBM C compiler. I have downloaded Samba 3.4.2 (as samba-latest.tar.gz via the samba.org site) and I'm stuck. As a very
