printers... (HP)
I can't remember if I asked here - I've got more than one printer, HP, laser, builtin JetDirect. When I go there in a browser, I see the basic thing, but I can't get to the networking page. It says that it wants a password, no user name. It doesn't accept anything. Last week, a co-worker reset one to factory defaults... and it comes up with the same thing. Looking around on the

net sam provision
Hello everybody, I am currently trying to set up a Samba PDC with OpenLDAP. I am trying to do this with Ldapsam_Editposix (got it from http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix ) instead of the smbldap-tools. I followed the instructions and everything is set fine. I imported the base structure from the given ldif (edited it to my domain), but when I try to let the command "net sam

Security considerations with displaying uploaded HTML
I have an application where I am allowing users to upload (or refer the app. to) arbritrary HTML that I am (currently) displaying in an IFRAME on a page. The users will be authenticated so it''s not open to the entire universe. I was always uneasy with this, but after reading the security chapter of AWDWR, I am even more concerned. What kinds of applications do people have out there

Icecast2 Win32: any way to minimize on start orrunas a service?
You could always run this as a service using Microsoft's tools from the NT 3.5 Resource Kit. The two tools you need are srvany.exe and instsrv.exe. I've used this many times on Win2k with no problems. You can download the resource kit from Microsoft here: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/reskit/nt35/i386/i386.exe And there is an article about how to set it up here:

nbtstat doesn't show MAC address for samba servers
On Win9x I issue the command: nbtstat -a <netbios name> If <netbios name> is a Win9x machine I got the MAC address of that machine on the last line of the command output. If it's a samba server the MAC address is not returned: MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00 Is there anyone who gest the MAC address back from a samba server? -- giulioo@tiscalinet.it

Viewing ACL's
As I said in my previous (unanswered but think I got it figured out) question, I'm transitioning my 3 NT domains to a single samba server, and currently the NT group stuff is a bloody mess, and just want to redo it, and the best way for me to do this is to figure out what groups are being used, and who are members of those groups, blah blah blah. The latter is fairly easy, but I'm not

Or does your executable override this? regards Thomas --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to

Offline files enabled clients are loosing network drives
Hello, since the update to Samba 3.0.25b Clients which have offline files enabled - typically notebooks - are sporadical loosing their network drives. In the samba logs I see: "read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 192.168.1.58. Error = Connection timed out" After a new login the client can connect again to the shares again, but after some minutes of work the same thing

DR Server for Windows Machines
I need to setup a CentOS box offsite to have a series of files replicated to it. My problem is this machine won't have Samba on it but I need to replicate the hierarchy in question in such a manner that I can restore from it and retain file system permissions. That's where I am stumped, anyone got any ideas? Thanks, jlc

problems trusting a w2003 domain server from samba 3
I have samba 3 PDC (SAMBA domain with hostname "pevpdc") on CentOS 3.7 (package is named samba-3.0.9-1.3E.7) and I have a w2k3 sp1 domain (W2003 domain with hostname "mailserver"). The last is in mixed mode and is an exchange server and the former is without winbind, using smbpasswd backend and "security = user" in smb.conf. I would like to authenticate mailserver

2 passwords when loging from Windows 98 to samba PDC
Hello. I have setup a local network where Windows 98 workstations authenticates against a samba server PDC running on linux, and it is working. But there is a little annoyance: Windows 98 is handling 2 passwords: 1) the network password (used with the samba PDC) 2) the windows password (used with the Windows desktop) Windows users can change their passwords from the workstation, but the

Standardized Benchmarking?
Hello all, I'm creating a site where people can share their benchmarks. If you are interested, the site is at (I just started on it so it has the stock graphics and color scheme still): www.dcsnow.com/mambo I would like some thoughts on what would be a good way to standardize the testing so the results are more comparable. Is Bonnie+ a good program for hard drive speed testing? Is there

Unable to join ADS domain
I've installed Samba 3.0.2 (from the source) on a SuSE 8.2 system with MIT Kerberos 1.3.1 (I uninstalled the Heimdal code) and the OpenLDAP 2.1.27 development libraries installed on it. I want to make this system a domain member of a Win2K native-mode ADS domain but can't get "net ads join" to work. I've run "kinit myid@MYDOMAIN.COM" and I get at ticket, but when

win2k usrmgr.exe returns "remote procedure call failed"
WHAT I HAVE: I've inherited a production debian system. uname reveals kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4. I am now running samba 3.0.14a with a completely "stock from source" install (as part of my troubleshooting activities). The machine acts as a PDC for win2k clients. It uses smbpasswd for the password back end. There are approx 20 users. It also serves dhcp, ntp, mysql and apache. WHAT I

Need help with GSSAPI authentication

Automatic Windows Patch Deployment (OS Agnostic)
A month ago I mentioned on this list work on a automated package deployment tool for Windows systems, which is server agnostic. At the time, I didn't have the time to put it up in a place for public consumption. I do now. The utility is named wpkg (punny isn't it?) It's nothing more than a simple .js (jscript) file which needs to be run on Windows, from a directory containing three
