Users with changed passwords can't log on remotely (but can locally)
(I submitted this last week, but hopefully someone who knows the intricacies of secrets.tdb and machine migrations will read this ...) I migrated a complete Samba configuration from an old server to a new one, including the entire /etc/samba directory and all user accounts. At first, no clients were aware that anything had changed. But when I changed the passwords of two users they suddenly

Samba not recognizing secondary groups
Hi all. I'm having a strange issue with a server running Samba 3.0.2a. The server has a single share, and under that are subfolders that contain documents. Each subfolder is owned by a different folder-specific group, and users belong to the groups that own the folders to which they need access. But suddenly one user can't access any folders. Windows (the client) suggests that she

Add support for Variables
Was just looking at a number of my scripts ( due to having to update them for RH5). Would it be possible to add support for variables / 2 variables HTTP_SERVER (scope should be global in "default" but local elsewhere, could maybe pe passed as an argument to vesamenu.c32 and menu.c32 (i think its only of use for people using these files.)) I was trying to use my windows RIS server to deploy linux so as to require user authentication. After seaching the internet I found that it was possible but not very well explained after alot of tinkering I eventually got it to work. Here is my documentation so hopefully others can do it in less time than I, feel free to comment and improve.. ************************ On RIS Server Create

Unable to connect to smb shares from second machine in workgroup
I have a pretty simply home LAN with a Linux box (Mandrake 9.1) and 2 XP boxes. The workgroup is named UNIVERSE and the machines are earth (Linux), voyager (XP) and starbase (XP). (smb.conf has security=user). Voyager can browse over to \\earth\share no problem. Recently I connected starbase to my LAN using a wireless router. When on starbase I cannot browse to \\earth\share. When I do so I

File Disappearance after copy?
Hi. I'm converting a group that was using Mac OS X Server (we were dissatisfied) to Mandrake PPC Linux with Samba. The Mandrake-supplied package is version 2.2.7a-8mdk. So far it works great - but we have a serious and odd problem that I couldn't find in previous postings to this list. When I copy files from an OS X server to this Mandrake/Samba server they usually disappear. Which is

silhouette fuzzy
After ordering the table of membership degrees , i must get the difference between the first and second coloumns , between the first and second largest membership degree of object i. This for K=2,K=3,....to K.max=6. This difference is multiplyed by the Crisp silhouette index vector (si). Too it dependending on K=2,...,K.max=6; the result divided by the sum of these differences I need a final

X11: Oracle Forms runs fine locally, but not remotely
There is some difference in the keyboard defs, though not much. The most interesting is this line, from the remote machine, with +keyboard: trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicode Found keycode 13 (0x D) trace:keyboard:X11DRV_MapVirtualKey MapVirtualKey wCode=0x43 wMapType=2 ... trace:keyboard:X11DRV_MapVirtualKey Found keycode 13 (0x D) trace:keyboard:X11DRV_MapVirtualKey returning 0x63. PXELINUX and WDS (The Proper WAY)
After about 15 hours, a packet sniffer and a ton of google searching later, I have a solution to getting WDS (Windows Deployment Services) to work with PXELINUX Google didn't turn up anything of use directly, everything that was referenced appeared to be related to starting pxelinux from either WDS or RIS. That just won't do, since they often can give hiccups and lockups when

Locally cached files
I've just upgraded our little network here to 2.0 beta 5. The server is a Data General Intel box running DGUX R4.20. Compile and install went incredibly well and things have just about working straight off. However, we experienced a little 'funny' this afternoon. A user was creating and deleting a postscipt file in a Unix directory. She then used Ghostview on the PC client to

RIS UNDI
Hello, I'm still trying to setup RIS (Remote Installation Service -w2k) with PXE Linux, but before that I must say that the mail list archive is a _good_ idea. Back to RIS. When I start from pxelinux memdisk initrd=risbootdisk.img I get an error: No UNDI Driver found. The risbootdisk.img is a bootdisk from Microsoft, which starts a RIS installation. When I boot from floppy it works fine,

Samba 3 as PDC and a Windows 2000 Server for RIS
Hello, I would like to install a Windows 2000 Server and configure it with RIS (remote installation services). The server is in a domain where a Samba 3 server, a machine with SuSE Linux and Samba 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE, plays the PDC role. The PDC works well. When I try to configure RIS in the application wizard (appwiz.cpl) of that Windows 2000 Server machine, it tells me that the setup for RIS

PXElinux and tftp path prefix
I want to chain multiple servers with pxelinux initiated from a ris server. (Correct me if i'm wrong) The Ris server sends a tftp-path-prefix location where the pxelinux.cfg is searched. On the ris server I have entries like: label server2 kernel 192.168.1.2::pxelinux.0 This fetches the pxelinux from server2 but the pxeconfig.cfg from server1 is used. Can I overrule this with an

rsync not prompting for username, only password
Hi guys, can anyone suggest why, when I connect to my rsync server, I'm not prompted for a username and password but instead I'm only prompted for a password? I have "auth users = username" set in /etc/rsyncd.conf and a corresponding entry in /etc/rsyncd.secrets but still rsync only asks for a password. RIS and PXELINUX
Hi folks, I'm finally tired of dealing with floppy disks to control our remote installs and thought that PXELINUX sound like a great way to go. However, I've got multiple hurdles and I'd like some advice before I get myself dug in too deep... We currently have Solaris Jumpstart and Windows RIS running in the department and now we would like to intermix Linux PXELINUX booting. Any

Using PXELINUX with Windows 2000 DHCP and TFTP
I noticed some links and suggestions on the SYSLINUX web site that reference how to run TFTP on Windows 2000 Server. Two of them suggest installing RIS, and one of them points to a third-party utility. I don't need to install RIS, because I don't want to run Windows setup over PXE. (In fact, I want to use PXELINUX to boot a DOS floppy and run Symantec Ghost to deploy an image.) Also, I
