CentOS 5.0 ifcfg-eth0 gets renamed on boot
Hello,
I created a CentOS 5.0 x86_64 guest under Debian Etch with Xen 3.0.3 and it
boots fine except for one re-occuring problem - whenever it boots the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 script gets renamed to .bak and
doesn''t configure the ethernet device.
Here is the content of this file:
TYPE=Ethernet
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=192.168.0.247

MAC address changes after cloning
Hi,
I have x86 system and have used clonezilla to clone the entire hardisk of
system A and restored it on another x86 system, system B.
After the cloning process, i notice that the MAC address of the system B
in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 is changed and
is having the MAC address of system A.
The interesting part is that if i do an ifconfig from the bash prompt, the

Network issue after new kernel install
Hello CentOS list,
On all of my CentOS 5 VMWare ESX3 virtual machines (about 15), after
installing a new kernel and rebooting the machine, the Network script
tries to run dhclient and can't determine the IP info (since I don't run
a dhcpd server... it's a static IP only lan). This also backs up my
ifcfg-eth0 file to ifcfg-eth0.bak and writes a new ifcfg-eth0 that has
dhcpd with

kudzu - fedora core 3
Hi list!:
A question about the refinement of the configuration:
Always when I start a domain kudzu (hardware detection daemon) ask me
for remove hardware. I answer yes, but in the next boot kudzu ask again.
I''m guessing that kudzu is asking for remove the «real» drivers that are
inside the domU because the domainU was created copying the dom0 system
in the domU.
How can I deal with

Kudzu and Zaptel Cards
Redhat has a 'Hardware Discovery Utility' called Kudzu.
When I change cards, kudzu pops up and ask to remove/config the card.
Most of the time kudzu has trouble recognizing the Digium Zaptel cards and calls them something wrong, like calling the TDM card a network card.
I'm having a devil of a time getting 3 TE410P cards to come up with all green lights. For example one or two cards

Forcing ifcfg-eth0 to use the same nic in multi nic machine
I am new to CentOS (coming from Fedora) and I really like it!
I am having difficulty getting one of my machines to boot and assign
the same designation of eth0 and eth1 to the same nics consistantly.
I have an MSI motherboard with 2 nics on the board. Strangely enough
both nics report the same MAC address. This is not an issue since I
use the computer to route between two different subnets so

Detecting second network interface
Me again.
The ASUS P5N32-SLI motherboard in my new machine has dual NICs but
CentOS has only detected one of them. I've tried rebooting with the
network plugged in only to the second one, but kudzu still doesn't
find it.
Any suggestions?

network config files in centos 5 changing
What is happening in centos 5 with network config files???
I have a machine with 2 network cards.
ifcfg-eth1 keeps changing to DHCP. All my static setup is gone.
Why is it doing this? How can I stop it?
I run "netconfig -d eth1" and re-setup my static information. I reboot and
now I am back to DHCP.
I have a gigabyte motherboard, nvidia chipset. forcedeth driver. eth0 is
e1000.

Really changing the hostname
I need to change the host name on a test server, and in the past when I
used hostname to change the hostname, it did not seem to change it
everywhere.
I really don't want to do a rebuild just yet, but I have to feel
confident that hostname is really changed (reboot is not too much of an
issue).
What is the recommened practice? Other than get it right the first time.

Problem with 2.6.11.4 kernel and e1000 driver -Correction
1) I'm actually not building a custom kernel per se, just one from the
standard 2.6.11.4 with our configuration. I may be adding a custom
driver, but unless I can get the standard kernel to boot,...
2) I have been told that after 2.6.11.4, support for the Infiniband
driver is dropped, and we need that. If this is not the case, I would
be delighted to know that and proceed accordingly.

Networking help
I have a centos 4.0 box that has three network interfaces and is used as
router. It runs shorewall as a two-ISP firewall for a single LAN.
This morning, the motherboard's LAN interface gave trouble, spewing out
IRQ problems, so I disabled it and changed the network cards. As I only
had two slots, I tried a dual NIC card, but it crashed the system every
time.
Right now I am trying to fit

5.2-5.3 Xen upgrade weirdness
Hi,
Has anyone tried upgrading xen domu's from 5.2 to 5.3? I just did a
yum upgrade glibc & yum upgrade yum. All appeared to go well but when I
rebooted and tried to connect to the network, I could not. Looking at
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts I see that the that there is now an ifcfg-eth0
and an ifcfg-eth0.bak. ifcfg-eth0 now contains configuration for a dynamically

Mixed dom0/domU usage?
Hi,
I'm wondering about the impact of using both dom0 and domU's on a server at
the same time. I'm worried about the performance impact of running a Mysql
server in a domU and now I'm thinking about moving the Mysql part of a LAMP
setup into dom0 and running a few Apache guests as domUs. Since the Apaches
will serve mostly from an NFS share they won't have much impact on

Hey Kudzu, leave that device alone!
How do I get kudzu to still look for new equipment but stop checking to
see if some devices are present or not?
For example. I have an ATEN USB keyboard/mouse adapter. Sometimes at
boot, it is not ready? or something and then kudzu asks if I want that
in or not. Of course I want it in!!! I may have to unplug and plug it
back in, but don't bother me.
I have a similar challenge with

network card / kudzu
When I have installed centOS, Kudzu says my network cards have been removed, and
right after it finds them again and asks me to configure them?
It looks like it is the same thing it finds that it just said was removed.
There are 3 Relatek|RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ cards in there and it is all of them it
will remove and reconfigure.
It doesn't matter if I select ignore or reconfigure them, they

Installed plus kernel, kudzu did not see atheros wifi
I took the dive and installed the CentosPlus kernel. I remembered that
I could always boot with the old kernel if things went south.
But on reboot, kudzu wanted to delete the Atheros config. I told it not
to, but....
Would a simple 'freshen' of madwifi-0.9.1-24.el4.at.i386.rpm ?
an rpm -qa |grep wifi returns:
madwifi-kmdl-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL-0.9.1-24.el4.at
