what happened to smbclient?
I noticed lots of smbclient options are missing in Samba 3.0.14a when compared to 3.0.13 - notably, all user/authentication options - so I can't connect now as a specified user anymore. Is it just my build, or is it "official"? Samba 3.0.14a: # smbclient --usage Usage: [-?] [-?|--help] [--usage] [-R|--name-resolve NAME-RESOLVE-ORDER] [-M|--message HOST] [-I|--ip-address IP]

basic WINS/smbclient problems
Hi! Two problems: 1) I can access shares by IP but not by name, so I assume that WINS doesn't do its job for some reason, smb.conf: [global] wins support = yes name resolve order = lmhosts wins hosts bcast 2) I don't quite get it how smbclient works. As I mentioned name resolve does't work and hance smbclient -M MACHINE doesn't either but an IP should work: # nmblookup -A

Updated from 2.2.8a to 3.0b3 gives smbtar newer failure
Hi all, Situation: We use smbtar for backups, incrementals done using -N <last date file>, and this has worked well with samba 2.2.x After upgrading to 3.0b3, using the -N (newer) option to smbtar causes a bad interaction with smbclient. Eg,: # smbtar -s PC -x Share -u User -p Pwd -d / -t - -N last-backup -v gives (if you print out the eval at the end of smbtar script): eval

Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when I connect to a dual-Athalon 2600+ Win2K system attached to the

[bug?] smbclient does not honour '-s' option
Hi, 'smbd' and 'nmbd' do behave well however 'smbclient' does not, so some of the other binaries neither i suppose. Running 'smbclient -s /etc/samba-pdc/config' gives me: params.c:OpenConfFile() - Unable to open configuration file "/opt/samba-3.0.0beta3/lib/smb.conf": No such file or directory bin/smbclient: Can't load

Filesys::SmbClient & kerberos bug?
I'm trying to use Filesys::SmbClient to connect to a windows share using kerberos to authenticate, however, I get a permission denied error. I've tried this on a FC5 with samba 3.0.22 and on Solaris 9 with samba 3.0.22 and 3.0.23rc2. Using kerberos with the command smbclient works however. If I specify a password, I can connect; however, I need to use kerberos. Since the smbclient

smbclient sending output to stdout
I'm using smbclient 3.0.22-13.16-SUSE-SLES10. I'm using the smbclientparser Perl module to use smbclient from within my Perl scripts. Whenever I perform a GET on a file, smb outputs this line to stdout: Domain=[mydomain] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] This results in hundreds of mail messages in my local mail queue. How can I turn this off, so that smbclient

2 GB file size limit with libsmbclient and Filesys::SmbClient perl module?!
Hi, I have a 32-bit installation of Arch Linux and I have developed my own little script (in perl) for downloading files over SMB/CIFS using multiple TCP connections to speed up the transfer. I have googled a lot but could not find any good download accelerator for files hosted over SMB/ CIFS. For example, the DownThemAll firefox add-on allows you to download files hosted over SMB/ CIFS, but is

NT_STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION when trying to delete files
I searched the archives already and couldn't find an answer to this. I'm running an automated process via a cron job on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 box. The cron runs a Perl script, which uses the SmbClientParser module. The Perl script grabs files from clients running Windows 2000. The files on the client computers are created by in-house MFC applications on those computers.

Templates and self-knowledge
So, I''m into templating. I *like* templating. What I *don''t* like, of course, is to have to use multiple, similar templates for different output files. So, let''s work a concrete example. Suppose I have a template "standard_profile.erb" which looks like this: install_type initial_install > > system_type standalone > > partitioning

Cannot Access Inbox
Hello Folks, Yesterday while messing around with procmail for SpamAssassin I had my IMAP client open and it lost it's ability to see my Inbox except for two messages. I tried another IMAP client and no success. I can see all other directories such as sent and the ones I have made. The mbox file is there and catable/grepable. I even made a new one. I can read a test account Inbox from

Speex requirements on a TI Davinci / ARM926EJ-Sid(wb)
(Resending since the archive seems to have eaten the text.) I'm working on getting Speex running on a TI Davinci (6441), on both the ARM and the DSP. My immediate goal is to understand the processing requirements on different architectures so that I can properly specific an engineering project. I have it up and running on the ARM, and I just wanted to see if anyone could sanity-check

PATCH: Makefile.in more upgrade friendly.
Hello again, In my constant recompiles of 2.9p1 and 2.9p2, I've noticed that upgrading a current installation with a test compile leads to tons of files being updated even when they don't need to be. The attached patch for Makefile.in splits the install-files target into a bunch of serparate targets: install-dirs, install-prog, install-man, install-conf, which are then all called in

Hierarchial storage management or automated archival to tape
Hi list! While regular backup solutions like amanda or bacula are very good at their job, ie keeping point2point copies of the files currently on disk, I find them less suited for archiving - having unused files move to tape in duplo and stay there until requested. I've even read of multi-tier solutions - move to slower disks after a week and further on to tape after a month. Does anyone
