Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4. Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name> instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2 machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines. Although these issues are not consistent. Which some windows applications seems to have a

Sudden domain login problems from XP-pro sp2 clients, Please help!
I am running Samba 3.0.7 on Gentoo Linux. The server is configured for domain logins and roaming profiles, and there are about 40 Windows XP Pro SP2 clients that login to the domain. This has been setup and working perfectly since October, until this morning. Now, anytime a client tries to login, they get this error: "windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain

Write performance of Win XP Pro sp2 & Samba
I have a file testing program that creates, writes and indexes a file on the server from the Windows client. On xpp sp1 the program takes 7 sec to write file and 8 sec to read the indexed file. After telling the Firewall to go away I can get the following numbers from xpp sp2; 29..30..45 (tested multiple times) sec to write the file and 7..8 sec to read the file. Any ideas on why the

Hi all, I've got few NetBIOS aliases for samba server, one for each user's group: group1svr, group2svr and so on. Samba server is also domain master for my domain. Linux version is SuSe Linux 8.2, samba version is 3.. At the end of samba.conf file I've put last line as follow: include /etc/samba/server/%L/%U.conf. I've created following directories in /etc/samba

"Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network" error on XP Pro SP2 clients for Samba 3.0.23d PDC
Hi, I've recently reinstalled our Samba server with a view to getting it working as a PDC using the tdbsam backend. I've successfully connected a number of XP Pro SP2 clients to the domain and can login ok, but I'm have problems getting the clients to read/apply an NTConfig.POL file I created following the instructions at http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html I'm seeing

XP SP2 offline files sync delay (again)
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on Mandrakelinux 9.2 as a PDC, with a few shares from the PDC and more on a separate Mandrakelinux 10.0 member file server, also running Samba 3.0.7. The passdb backend is LDAP and clients are all Windows XP Professional SP1. Except for the below, everything works great! We make heavy use of offline files, and with Windows XP SP1, all is well. However, when I

Hallo, > We have problems with printing after installing XP SP2. > In nearly every software it takes about 10 seconds to 30 seconds, if you > click on "Print-Button" and wait for the print dialogue window. > Extremly slow are programs like MS Word (30 seconds, when you open a > document the first time). same problem here. This a known but _unresolved_ problem for Samba

offline files sync delay and Windows XP SP2
I'm scratching my head at the following issue that surfaced with Windows XP Prof. + SP2. First, a summary of my configuration: . Running Samba 3.0.7 in a LDAP-based PDC configuration, and with separate machine as member server for home directories. . The OS for PDC is Mandrake 9.2, the file server (FILES) is Mandrake 10.0. . 1000BaseT Ethernet. With XP SP1 and Samba 3.0.7 or prior,

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello, I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try. I

XP SP2 and slow logins/offline files sync: RPC changes?
I posted a while back (twice, actually), about some long delays with offline files sync and, to a lesser extent, domain logins with Windows XP SP2. This is Samba 3.0.7 (ldapsam backend) on Mandrakelinux 9.2 and 10.0, with XP SP1 clients. I make use of WINS and everything works fine for SP1 clients. Here's what I found since then: after the client is joined to the Samba (NT) domain,

WinXP SP2 machines disappear from the workgroup controlled by Samba
Hi, I have a problem which I couldn't solve myself thus decided to ask here. My setup is rather basic. There are over 20 PCs in the network, most of them running WinXP Home SP2 and WinXP Pro SP2, a few Windows 98 SE and the Linux (Debian) server running samba 3.0.7(-1). They all are in the same subnet. Windows clients and samba are configured to participate in the same workgroup. WINS is

offline folders problem with W2k SP2
Hi, had samba 2.1.?? version and Win2k running for some time and offline folders worked just fine. But recently I installed SP2 on Win2k and did a samba upgrade to 2.2.3 and now the offline folders do not work any more. Everything is fine until I go offline, */CSC/ contains my offline files and everything seems fine, but when being offline I always get access denied messages when accessing

XP SP2 connecting to 3.0.10-1.4E
I have been running our companies XP Pro systems on our Samba domain controller (version: 3.0.10-1.4E) with local administrative rights up to this point. Everything has worked fine. We are getting larger now and I'd like to make the logins locally restricted (I want them to have XP's "Users" rights and "Remote Desktop Users" only). When I restrict the accounts

Problem with disabled user name and password fields in login dialogue on Windows XP SP2
Hello, We are having some problems with logging on to several Windows XP Pro SP2 clients at several different sites running Samba 3.0.10 as domain server. The situation is that the "User name" and "Password" fields in the "Log On to Windows" window are greyed out on the Windows XP clients. The third field, "Log on to", where you can choose between the

Signal 11 on activity from XP SP2 clients (Samba 2.2.8a on SuSE 9.0)
I've got two brand-new, fully-patched XP SP2 clients who are suffering a mysterious malaise. These two machines will cause a smbd panic when printing or accessing files on a somewhat random basis. Now, the puzzling thing is that three other XP SP2 clients, including one of the exact same configuration, have no issues whatsoever. I've basically ruled out hardware failure on the server,

smbclient times out to 445 after upgrade to XP SP2
I think this is probably an XP SP2 issue but perhaps you've seen it before? We use smbclient 3.0.13 to download files from a machine "Testmachine" that used to run Windows 2000 and use the zonealarm firewall. A couple of days ago it was upgraded to XP SP2 (fully patched) using the built in Microsoft firewall. One folder "Example" was "shared" and the firewall

XP Pro and offline files
All: Not sure if this is an XP Pro issue or a samba issue. I am running v3.0.3 of the samba server acting as a Domain controller and file server. The problem that I run into is that every once in a while, while connected to the network the network shares go offline. I am running XP Pro SP2 and I am not really sure where to start to troubleshoot this. TIA Ron

Remote Downlevel Document Hangs in XP Pro Print Queue
I used SAMBA, CUPS, hplip, and linuxprinting.org documentation to made all configuration changes necessary to successfully print from FC3 print server using samba-3.0.10-1.fc3 for a HP PSC 1350 SAMBA windoww share on a XPPro SP2 PC. I created the FC3 print queue using the CUPS web interface->Device=Windows Printer via
