auto Sync username when connecting SMB using winbind feature
I have question, if I have about 500 Active Directory users on my network and I would like them to connect to my Linux server via SMB from MS Windows box. Would there be any way where I can setup an auto mount of the users home directory on the Linux Server, so I can avoid adding 500 users to the Linux server? Samba ADS Help
I have been having a hard time login into a RH AS 3.0 using my MS AD account and password. I did successfully setup winbind, krb5 and samba w/out any major complications. But when it came to login I investigate as to why I am not able to log into the linux box using my AD account and password. I used the following URL example to setup winbind and samba.

Joining Linux to Windows 2000 domain
Hello, I am new to Linux, Samba, and actually servers in general. I am attempting to set up a Linux file server and join it to a Windows 2000 domain. All I want to be able to do is get files from the linux file server and put files on it. I do not want it to be the domain controller. I join the domain using: net join -S 10.10.10.40 -UAdministrator%password It tells me that I have joined

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users". On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group. Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo -g and getent group. When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo -g, I got the results

Winbind - wbinfo -u works, getent passwd only gives local users
I only have limited Samba experience, and expect this is a silly mistake, but have been unable to find a solution I have installed Samba and Winbind on my desktop Linux (Debian) machine (SPARKSTONELX), aiming to unify logins with other windows machines accessing the PDC, again samba/Debian, with tdbsam password backend. All is well, joining the domain, and getting account details using wbinfo -u,

UTMP duplicated entries
Hi everybody! I've been noticing some strange entries in samba/utmp. I have a lot of 00:00 timed sessions. But the worst problem is that i found some conflicting information. Since windows doesn't allow concurrent login sessions, I think utmp should not have generated the following entries. liana smb/2 192.168.0.207 Fri Sep 2 18:43 - 00:52 (06:08) rodrigobaso

Samba 3 ADS problem with %g variable
Hi I have successfully configured my SuSE Linux 9.0 server to use Samba 3.0.14 and accept my Windows 2000 users through Active Directory to access the shares. However I have some shares that have paths that are made up of %g/%U variables. The %U works fine but I cannot get the %g in any format to give me just the group name I get DOMAIN/groupname sent through instead which is making the paths

wbinfo -u error
Hello, After update to 4.7.4 on my DC's I see some strange, non-critical (I think) though behaviour. I've noticed that: sometimes running command wbinfo -u doesn't list any of the users, in log i see this: *../source3/rpc_client/cli_pipe.c:568(cli_pipe_validate_current_pdu)* *../source3/rpc_client/cli_pipe.c:568: RPC fault code DCERPC_NCA_S_PROTO_ERROR received from host dc3!*

wbinfo -u/-g does not query AD DC
I'm setting up a domain member (Debian Wheezy, Samba 3.6.6) to join an AD DC (Wheezy backports, Samba 4.1.9). Everything looks good so far, in particular the checklist (http://linuxcostablanca.blogspot.com.es/2014/06/samba4-winbind-desperation.html) up to number 7 is okay. I also removed nscd. I can do "kinit user" and I can query the samba LDAP to see domain users. I did a
