unable to browse samba server with Win98, but it works with WinXP
Hello, I have samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6 bundled with CentOS 4.3 x86_64 and I can't browse it with Win98. I have a very simple setup, Share type, with access to everyone. If I double-click on the server name from Win98, I have this message: "\\server is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network." If I type the whole path to the share(ex: \\server\transfer), in Win98, it

3.0.0->3.0.1 = 2 problems - outlook & browsing fails
Hi, I upgraded my 3.0.0 setup to 3.0.1. Basic functions worked well: logging to domain, login script executes, home drive gets connected, PDC is browseable, shares accessible. Network WINS server is a Win 2000 server, not samba PDC. First problem appeared, when users tried to open their Outlook mailbox'es to exchange 5.5 (on win 2000 server). Some users got into their mailbox, others

Problems after changing security = domain to security = ads
Hello all I have a samba domain member authenticating to a w2k3 server, after installing SP1, there were problems, and a solution I found was to change to security = ads. This seemed to work fine, but today no-one can get their home drives, and some people are denied access to shares where the permissions on the files are rwx for the user. I did not change anything other than the security line

trivial spelling correction
Good evening, Spotted a very minor spelling mistake in the source for the grep help. And thanks to R-Core for all their work - it's a tribute to R-Core, that these sort of "problems" are rare indeed. Samba PANIC - running two instances
HI All. We've been having some problems the past couple days with one of our Samba Servers. We currently have it running two instances. One instance is using local auth (historical) the other instances is using our newish domain for authentication. We're slowly migrating users over to the domain so having both methods available was the solution we came up with. Yesterday we had

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65310 --- Comment #6 from Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> --- Please provide repro steps. I'm inclined to believe this is a problem in the environment, and not a core gcc bug. But those are some trippy optimization flags, so who knows. Be sure to specify the platform you're building for (given the sse2 flag, x86 or x86_64... but

synchronizing Samba & Unix passwords
The following message is a courtesy copy of an article that has been posted to comp.protocols.smb as well. Okay. Maybe someone knows the answer to a question I have about password synchronization. The smb.conf man page says that the "passd chat" string controls the chat between smbd and the local password changing program. The man page goes on to say that the string can contain
