Is windbindd necessary?
Is it necessary? I am also confused as to what it does. If I disable it in the smb.conf file, I can not say I see any difference. I am running 6 XP pro clients, MDK 9.2 as the file server. Unable to browse workgroup, shares otherwise accessible
Hi, After upgrading from Mandrake Linux 9.2 to Mandrake Linux 10 I can no longer browse my workgroup domain in "My Network Places" from my XP Pro clients. However, I can still access the shares on my Samba server without problem using either "Add Network Place" or by entering the path directly in Explorer. Another symptom is found in my Samba log where a lot of the

Migrating from 2.2.8a to 3.02a
Hi, I've been going nuts for the last couple of days with the issue of migrating from MDK 9.1/Samba 2.2.8a to MDK 10.0/Samba 3.02a. The backend is LDAP. Going through the documentation it seemed like everything would be sort of simple: Install new machine, setup smb.conf as BDC, rsync every share (including homes, netlogon and profiles) across, set ldap admin password in secrests.tdb,

Samba 3.0.1pre1 winbind / getent problems
Hi, I've got some problems with winbind and ADS Domain Membership stuff. I've joined the domain without problems with "kinit admin@MY.DOMAIN" and "net ads join", i can see the machine account in AD with ldapbrowser. Klist give me three tickets, as say in the documentation, OK. I created the idmap entry in my openldap (with samba3 schema), OK. I've set the ldap

Using different distro in domain
I have a Win4Lin 3.0 Terminal Server that, for reasons the developers can''t explain or fix, requires me to use MDK 9.2 (there''s a NumLock issue that occurs in every other distribution I''ve tried, except MDK 9.2). This server is fairly old and needs replacing. I have another Linux server that is much more capable of handling the load of this software, but it''s

Problem with latest MDK package
Hi folks, This is probably a stupidly simple question, but its got me stumped. I just installed the latest MDK package for wine (wine-20031118-mdk.i586) to update the one that shipped with MDK 9.2 (wine-20030813-1mdk.i586). Now, when I try and run wine I get wine: error while loading shared libraries: libwine.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory libwine.so.1 is in

Samba3 parallel installable RPMs for Mandrake 9.0
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have been updating the packaging for Mandrake in HEAD, which means it is now possible to build RPMs of HEAD which are parallel installable with Mandrake RPMs of 2.2.x. Of course, you can only run one version of samba on a given interface. To do this, update to HEAD cvs if your snapshot is older than late yesterday. then: $ cd packaging/Mandrake $

Samba 3beta2/3 with ldapsam as PDC dont advice itself
Hi, i have a problem with samba3 (with ldapsam). I've set up my samba3 beta2 (also tried beta3) as a pdc, but it seems that samba does not anounce it's DOMAIN correctly. I don't see my JOCHENGROUP Domain from any Windows-Workstation. I can search for the name of my PDC using the 'Search Computer' Function and Windows will find it. I can doubleclick the PDC and login using

Windows XP Pro and Samba (file saving)
Sometimes when I save a file to a samba-shared drive the application is unable to save there and asks if the file is write protected or if the disk is full. If I then save it to a local drive and copy it there using Windows Explorer, it can overwrite the file fine. Do I need to make that myriad of changes to my XP Pro registry? Most of the time it works fine, just from time to time it will give

Quicken Home & Office 2002
First, let me apologize if this has been asked/answered numerous times, but I cannot seem to find a searchable mailing list archive for wineusers. After a 1.5 year break from trying to get quicken home & office 2002 to work under wine, I tried again this weekend. Install went well. I could not register because the registration box was empty -- though it seemed to get further than it has in

use of file.show() under linux session....
Hi all, I know this is a stupid question, but I can't display a text file in a separate console window under a R session in X11 (gnome with MDK 9.2). I use R 2.0.0. When I enter : > file.show("/path/to/my/file/filename.txt" ,pager="gnome-terminal") the new window opens and then I just obtain the blinking cursor after the console prompt :-( I always obtain the same

Small bug when server IP changes
I think this is a bug: CentOS 5.4 using Samba 3.4.7. If the server IP address changes, nmbd complains every few minutes that "There is already a domain master browser" on the old IP address. Although "Chapter 41. Managing TDB Files" states: wins.dat N WINS database iused only when wins support = yes has been set. This gets rebuilt or updated at every restart. that does

winbind problem
Dear all, I'm trying to make winbindd working without much success. I would like to set my linux box as a samba PDC and as winbindd host with some win2k workstations. I'm using mdk 8.1 and have installed the corresponding rpms (samba-2.2.2-6 by cooker). I followed howto and samba doc to set the pdc and it works. Following winbindd doc I have to used "smbpasswd -L -j IUTINFO -U

Hello, i have question about samba3 migration. I have 2 distincts sites whith samba3 PDC+OpenLDAP running on each site.
