inotify_add_watch returned Permission denied
Hello, We are using Samba 4.10.16 as a file server on a linux box with SLES 12. All is working fine with our NAS NFS Shares. We are now trying to integrate new NFS Shares from an archive provider, but samba gets crashed when a client tries to access files on these shares. New start of samba is required! In the smbd.log, I see these entries: [2020/06/24 17:58:23.118208, 1]

security=ads
Dear samba-mailinglist, We're using samba 4.0.5 as an active directory domain controller. We used to set up some file shares on basis security=user in the old samba version. I was able to set up the shares as they used to be . My Question: How can I set up "wich user kan read/write which share?" Do I have to do this in den Active Directory or in smb.conf? This maybe a trivial

Stopping new directory creation ?
Hi, I've been looking for a way to stop users creating new sub-directories under a top level (shared) directory - which will need to contain 3 readymade directories and/or to stop users placing files outside the 3 readymade directories. Is this at all possible ? Got a really basic system - Slackware 8.0 and Samba 2.2.8a running purely as a fileserver for Win2k clients. Thanks Mike

Preventing Windows from changing file permissions
Hi,? Is there a way to configure samba such that Windows applications are not allowed to change file permissions for existing files in the share.? I just want to be able to read and modify the files from Windows without affecting the file permissions inadvertently. I do not care about any Windows side file attributes such as ACL.? I tried several things including parameters such as 'map

re: Support of Samba on RHEL4?
Alex, I could not agree more with you. BTW, perhaps you already know, but just in case: If you want to see the patches applied to a package during its history, and you don't need to dig into the sources themselves, you can query the changelog for an rpm package without having to download sources: rpm -q --changelog package for example for my samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2 rpm -q --changelog samba *

Fedora packages or Enterprise packages of Samba on RHEL4?
Hello, Can somebody of the Samba team explain me the difference of Fedora packages or Enterprise packages ( <http://enterprisesamba.com/> http://enterprisesamba.com/) of Samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4? I tried to find any information about this subject, but googleing doesn't help me. The standard Samba package (3.0.10EL) of RHEL4 doesn't communicate with a W2k3 server

My Samba 3.0.4 server is an W2k3 ADS domain member, it uses winbind and kerberos as authentication for shares, so "security = ADS". I have the same

Hi samba admins, I don?t know is this the right place for my question, but I can?t find a list for my problem. I have some trobble to configure the smbldap-tools. I have download and copy the scripts to /usr/local/sbin. Transparent Migration from cyrus to dovecot
Hi dovecot people, We are in the process of preparing the migration from a cyrus 2.1 installation to dovecot. Dovecot will be installed on new hardware, so we have separated servers that can/will exist in parallel for a while. Our goal is to do the migration without interrupting the service for our users too much. Currently we tend to using dsync. So I am asking for best practice suggestions,

Prevent drag and drop within Samba shares
Hello, Is there a parameter in smb.conf that prevent users to use drag and drop within Samba shares? I know this is a Winedow$ function, but some users (hum, hum) use Explorer to open their files and accidentally they drag and drop sometimes a directory in the root of the share to another directory in the root of the share. My samba server is member of a native W2k3 server Active Directory and

Dear Samba team, I?d like to a report a bug (INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in smbd) that I encountered with Samba after uploading printer drivers to the PRINT$ share, while I was configuring the ?Printing Defaults? in the ?Advanced? tab. Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4. Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name> instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2 machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines. Although these issues are not consistent. Which some windows applications seems to have a

krb5.conf file in /var/lib/samba/smb_krb5; Samba 3.0.27a
Hello list, I've upgraded from Samba 3.0.14a to 3.0.27a (Samba is a domain member of a W2k3 native AD) and I see that in the /var/lib/samba/smb_krb5 directory a krb5.conf file is created. Is this krb5.conf file extracted from my original /etc/krb5.conf? Or is this file created from the "password server =" entry in my smb.conf file? My original /etc/krb5.conf contains the DC's in

Can't Install Samba 3.0.14a
I'm running FC3 with its bundled samba 3.0.11-fc3, and I'm trying to update to 3.0.14a. I've downloaded the rpms from samba.org, and (I think) I've backed up the original samba installation--/etc/samba--and I've stopped smb (I had to kill the smbd and nmbd processes; "/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop" didn't work). I've also withdrawn (make uninstall) an
