Idealx script prerequisites?
I'm trying to setup a PDC (and later on a BDC as well) using samba 3.02a and openLDAP 2.2.13 and I'm having some trouble with the idealx scripts. When I run the command /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd alex I get the message: Can't locate object method "new" via package "Net::LDAP" (perhaps you forgot to load "Net::LDAP"?) at

SWAT works with Webmin but not via localhost:901
I have tried everything that I know of. I have reviewed the services file and the swat file in xinetd.d a tun of times. It appears, via netstat that swat is listening on port 901. However when I attempt to access it via the Mozilla browser on my Fedora server (with 127.0.0.1:901 or localhost:901) nothing happens. It just sits there. However, if I access it via webmin (which has swat stored

Fwd: Re: Samba Install/SWAT Access
Paul, Deryck, et al., Thanks for all of your help (OP isn't savvy--what was your first clue? <g>). After sufficient prodding, I went and looked and found the following URL, at our very own samba.org, for rpms for Samba v 3.0.14a:

Error changing password
After a long battle with the having the password hash types that samba sets in LDAP being incompatibile with anything else that I wanted to do I finally have the idealx tools set to give me crypt passwords. Now however I'm running into the familiar "You don't have permission to change your password" problem, but the passwords are actually set correctly. My test machine is

Can't get SWAT to work...
I have a Red Hat 9 file server and I have been unable to use swat to configure the smb.conf file. I have samba-swat installed and the following in /etc/xintetd: ================================================================= # default: off # description: SWAT is the Samba Web Admin Tool. Error running SWAT
Running SuSE v9.0 and Samba v3.0.7. I have samba up and running ok with printer and file shares working peer to peer with Win2000 box. However, I would like to use SWAT for config purposes, rather than manual edit. If I run http://localhost:901 I receive a 'connection refused' error message. I had a look in /etc/services and see these two lines as the only ones referring to port 901:

IDEALx tools & OpenLDAP 2.1.x
Since I am trying to learn both Samba3 & OpenLDAP 2.1.x, I found the IDEALx tools very useful, but needing some modifications to work. Here is my post to the IDEALx mailinglist - maybe it's helpful to someone in here (NOTE: I'm using the IDEALx tools from CVS since those are the only ones that work with Samba3 yet): I've modified the Samba tools to work with OpenLDAP

Samba Install/SWAT Access
I'm running FC3, kernel 2.6.9-1.667, with the KDE desktop. This came with Samba v 3.0.11-fc3 bundled. I've since installed v 3.0.14a. I'm also extremely new to Linux, so please bear with me. My questions are very basic. The FC3-bundled samba is in /etc/samba, and the "upgrade" went into /usr/local/samba. To get SWAT to work, I had to copy the smb.conf that's in

Problems with the IdealX scripts
Not sure if this is where I should ask about this, but if I try to run any of the smbldap-* scripts, I get the following kind of output: oink:/usr/local/sbin # ./smbldap-populate Using builtin directory structure erreur LDAP: Can't contact master ldap server (IO::Socket::INET: Bad protocol 'tcp') at /usr/local/sbin//smbldap_tools.pm line 153. idealx dual head patch?
i have two domain controllers, both have openldap, server1 can write to the ldap database and pushes that to server2 which can only read. In the smbldap.conf file it reads... # Notes: to use to dual ldap servers backend for Samba, you must patch # Samba with the dual-head patch from IDEALX. If not using this patch # just use the same server for slaveLDAP and masterLDAP. # Those two servers

Samba+LDAP+IdealX - Can't add to domain
Hello, I am running Samba 3.0.14a under Debian Sarge with a LDAP backend (OpenLDAP) following the IdealX guide. I am using smbldap-tools, too. Everything seems to work fine, except when I try a machine to join the domain: Windows XP SP2 says it cannot find the user. I have tried joining the domain with a domain user account and with a domain administrator account, but it does not work anyway.

I am using smbldap-tool from IDEALX on my Fedora Core 1 samba 3.0.5 PDC. I have been following their guide step by step and I am getting the following error message as I try to get SID. I have looked in google group, but I couldn't exactly find anybody who had the same problem as I do. Please help me if you can! [root@pdc smbldap-tools]# net getlocalsid [2004/06/17 10:53:57, 0]
