winbind and unix/nt login match use unix uid
Hi, I'm on solaris 9, and using winbind to be a part of our NT domain. I'm trying to determine if it's possible to configure winbind/smb so that when the nt login name matches the unix login name the share is mounted using their unix uid. With none matching account names, username map works fine. It doesn't appear that "johnsmith = johnsmith" works in the username map

%U in include
Hello, I had problem with %U in include tag in configuration file smb.conf. I try explain the problem. When I connecting from Windows (domain) the samba server doesn't properly include file. E.g.: smb.conf include = smb.conf.%U It include only smb.conf. at first time. I find no information about it so I try write patch for it. Please could you say me, if it's wrong? I have no problem

group mapping on a member server
I have installed a Samba 3.025a PDC and 2 member servers. All on solaris. (The Samba PDC replaced a NT4 PDC. Account data was migrated with the "net vampire" command.) All solaris machines use NIS. On the PDC i created group mappings between the NIS groups and the Windows groups. I can access file shares on all machines from Win XP or Win 2000 clients. On the security properties of

group mapping on a member server - winbindd and solaris 10
>From what I can tell it does look as if I have to run winbindd on member servers, even if NIS is used, to get SID's mapping consistently across the domain. The PDC is Samba 3.025a on Solaris 10. Two member servers are Samba 3.025a on solaris 9. If i start winbindd on a memv, the "wbinfo -u" and "wbinfo -g" commands show my users and groups. However, the

password sync does not work
Samba 3.026a on Solaris PDC. I am trying to enable password sync. Member server - group and user mapping with winbind
I now have one PDC (Samba 3.026a on Solaris 10) and several member servers (including Samba 3.026a on Solaris 9 and 10, and Samba 3.024 on Fedora core 6.) Each machine uses NIS for unix accounts. If I start smbd and nmbd on a member server, I can connect to a share from a windows 2000 or XP client. If I look at the permissions on a folder, if shows "Unix Account/someuser" or

A few questions
1. There is no Domain Users group on my Samba 3.0.6 server. Does this group need to be manually created? 2. In my smbpasswd file: # Unix_name = SMB_name1 SMB_name root = Administrator nobody = guest pcguest smbguest I can not join a domain using administrator. I must use root. What did I do wrong? 3. Since there is no Domain Users group. I have been adding each user to the admin group on the

NTLM oddities
Started implementing the MasterUser changes to my config files so I can finally offer SPA for pop3/imap. Things are working fine with the MasterUser (horray!), however one of my guys started using SPA with Outlook Express and started getting another users mailbox. Turns out to be related to NTLM. His Outlook express is configured for the username of 'johnsmith'. However, you'll see

Problems with voicepulse.com
Greetings, I have been experimenting with Asterisk for a few weeks and finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a few DIDs for inbound calling. Our attempts at IAX/IAX2 connectivity with VoicePulse have been less than successful. We get "Registration Refused" errors from Asterisk whenever we launch the server. The front-line support folks at VoicePulse suggested that we are

NT User ID with apostrophe
I have a few users who have ID's in NT domain and AD that contain apostrophes, such as O'Neill (fo'neill) , and O'Toole (go'toole). I've been trying to give them access to shares, but Samba doesn't seem to like this very much. I've been able to set up the ID's in our LDAP server so file ownership works, but according to the log messages, Samba DOMAIN

Nightly automatic documentation generation
Is there a way to have RubyForge run our ''rake html_docs'' on SVN Head each night and if successful copy to http://wxruby.rubyforge.org/doc/? I do not know all the features RubyForge provides to us but this one would be pretty nice. Sean

TEST 3 If you get a "connection refused" response then the smbd server may not be running. If you installed it in inetd.conf then you probably edited that file incorrectly. If you installed it as a daemon then check that it is running, and check that the netbios-ssn port is in a LISTEN state using "netstat -a". Note: You have xinetd not inetd on the redhat box. cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server. The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the same domain but from trusted domains. Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new versions of cups and samba. Greek simbols in dialogs.
The problem is ... strange. When I'm using programs such as "Tottal commander", "Free commander", installing "hidden and dangerous deluxe" (free), letters in dialogs becomes Greek instead of Latin (you know those strange symbols from math formulas). So I don't understand what is written. How can I solve this?

Differences with net join
All; I'm getting closer to tracking down my problem (I hope). Since I want samba to verify the windows users from the Windows domain, I did the usual net join. But it still doesn't get the users from there, I still need an smbpasswd file. So... now the question (for the real samba gurus): Is there a substantial difference between: net ads join -w <domain/workgroup> and net rpc

Standalone with Windows ACL
I'm configuring a standalone server(server role = standalone server) using POSIX ACLs to manage permissions on server. I need to manage permissions(At least basic ones, like read, write) from Windows GUI. Is that possible using standalone? When I try setting permissions on Windows I got this on the log: [2017/10/04 19:07:08.437837, 2] ../source3/smbd/posix_acls.c:3006(set_canon_ace_list)

disappointed with complete lack of help.
I sent a request for help on the 21st of January....I waited.....I sent it again on the 24th....I waited.... I sent the same question crafted differently on the 25th.... I waited. The help on this list is horrible..... I am sorry for whining. I talk up open source regularly and I help when I can..... but, the claim of "better" support from the open source community because there are so
