How to tell if option "with-acl-support" is compiledinSolaris smbd?

Where is the tdbsam password database file?
I'm curious to know where the tdbsam password database file is kept on my Fedora 7 system. Using the unmodified smb.conf file that shipped with Fedora 7, I've enabled users using smbpasswd, and successfully accessed shares. I just can't figure out where the password database is located: [root@box ~]# service smb start [root@box ~]# setsebool samba_enable_home_dirs on [root@box ~]#

samba with ADS. winbindd ignore for user authentication
Hello, I'm trying to set up samba using ADS for authentication. I can successfully join the samba machine to the domain. Windows hosts can "see" the samba machine. After successfully joining, doing: # wbinfo -u shows me ADS-defined users. Same goes for groups. However, when I try and assign one of those users ownership of a file, I get: # chown user1 /tmp/test chown: test1:

Thanks Tom Dickson.... and the others
Hi: I?m sorry I didn?t answer before, but I just couldn?t, I was too busy at my job. Tom, I did as you suggest me but it was a surprise, I don?t have acccess to that web site!! I was not prompted for a password or any thing alike but it was prohibited from my server. Nevertheless my workstation could do it. I know you might be wondering: how come, but it?s simple. I have a RedHat server

force group broken in 3.0.14?
I've got some problems with file access control on a linux-server with samba 3.0.14a compiled from a src-rpm. This is the method I've been using for the past 5-6 releases. It's a redhat 8.0 machine and the kernel version is 2.4.30. The problems seem to have appeared since upgrading from 3.0.13. Symptom 1: When using force group on a share, users from the two groups edb and

Rsync hang on HP-UX 10.20
Hi, We downloaded the latest rsync 2.5.6 source code and compiled it on HP-UX for both 10.20 and 11.x. Rsync runs fine if we run it from the command line on both platforms. But after we put rsync command into a HP Software Distributor package configure script (just a shell script with rsync command in it) and run swinstall, which will get installation bits including the configure script, put the

2nd try: Lots of RPC-related compile errors (conflicting types, too many arguments, ...) trying to update Samba from 3.5 to 4.6

Everyone group difference between ACL/no ACLs.
Hello! I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on top of a ext3 filesystem with ACLs enabled. (kernel 2.4.20-gentoo-r2) With ACLs disabled (i.e., mount /dev/hdd1 /mnt/floppy (no -o ACL)), the Security box under windows 2000 works like I want it to with respect to the Everyone group; If I want the Linux permissions to be, say, 770 (rwxrwx---), I can select everyone and hit "Remove." smbd process grows to 25Mb resident size
Hi, I've 4 Samba servers running 3.0.21c in solaris 10 zones. One PDC, 3 BDCs. The machines are identically installed and the samba binaries and associated libraries are copied between the machines so are also identical. On my PDC which seems to be accepting almost all of the clients, my smbd processes are 33M with 25M resident. This seems to be used by dev:32,0 ino301938 ,see pmap

RE: Can I get the GPL source for the Samba version used in the Gu ardian OS?
Then you are in violation of section 3 of the GPL as printed at http://oss.snapappliance.com/license.html Samba is licensed under the GPL, and the version in SNAP is modified. I'd like the modifications. The modifications available at oss.snapappliance.com are old. -Tom > Hi Tom, > > I am terribly sorry but this is Confidential information that cannot be > distributed outside

HP-UX announces binary Secure Shell product based on OpenSSH sou rce
HP has taken OpenSSH version 3.1p1 and made a binary swinstall product for HP-UX customers to use. The source is bundled with the product and is slightly different than OpenSSH 3.1p1, but the changes made were just to make the OpenSSH features work on HP-UX 11.00 and 11i. HP-UX Secure Shell is a fully supported no charge product for HP-UX users with a current HP-UX support contract, and is

Access to Files on Unix host from Windows2K Host
I needed to find a way for a user, on a Windows 2000 host, to be able to access files in a filesystem on a unix host running HP-UX 11 (and Apache webserver) both of which are on the same network. The files in the directory on the unix host are open for all to read. An application on the Windows host expects to have the path for the file system (on the unix host) defined in an .ini file as

New to Samba need some help
Greetings, my name is Norm Long. I have been trying to install Samba on a HP-UX 10.20 machine without much success. Actually the only problem I have is getting nmbd to run. I can do a net view \\Hosea from my nt workstation and see all the directories specified in the smb.conf file and can from Hosea do a smbclient -L hosea and see a list of available shares for Hosea. But when I go to
