XFS-ACL-Samba: Trouble adding acls
Hi,
I recently tried to use ACLs with samba. XFS is running, I can set ACLs
using setfacl and read them with getfacl, no problem so far. Samba
compiled fine with '--with-acl-support'.
Now I set up a share with 'nt acl support = yes', put there a file and
added an acl with 'setfacl':
root@edjo[ACLTEST]# getfacl datei.txt
# file: datei.txt

sid_to_uid: Domain controller lookup missing
Hi,
trying to investigate my xfs-acl problem I think I have found the
missing part:
In smbd/uid.c the function "sid_to_uid" resolves SIDs to unix user
names. This is done as follows:
- First the domain part of the SID is compared to the local domain (if
the SID belongs to the samba server it can be resolved locally)
- In any other cases winbindd is asked
This works well if the

NT4 WINS Server forgets samba servers
Hi,
I do not know whether this is a samba problem or an NT feature, but it
seems only to occur with samba boxes, so it could be samba's fault:
The NT PDC (moritz) runs also the WINS server. It regularly forgets the
IP addresses of our samba servers:
# nmblookup -U moritz -R hni-gate
querying hni-gate on 131.234.166.19
name_query failed to find name hni-gate
I then just have to stop and

saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

Samba4 - ACL not applied/followed (worked in samba 3.0.11)
Hi.
samba 4.1.1.. User has unix rights for writing, but samba denies write
access to him.
On samba server:

Problem using valid users with security = ADS
Hi list,
I have a weird problem.
Im using samba 3.0.24 in ADS mode against a 2003 server.
If I put admin users = @"KIC\Domain Users" I can connect with all
users in that group.
If I remove admin users and instead use valid users = @"KIC\Domain
Users" I receive the following error
Domain=[KIC] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.24]

Windows changes file ownership & ACL's - any solution ?
I thought I had read a response to this. Went something like this:
Word (and lots of others such apps) do not actually deal with the original
file. They create a temporary file which overwrites the original when you
save the new document. The 'new' file of course inherits the new editor's
ownership.
Hope this helps you.

Synology shares not accessible...
Hi,
there is some progress, even I would'nt call it that. At least they
admitted it's caused through some changes from their side.
@Rowland: Remember that "old Samba method" part?
This is their answer. I don't know what to make of it. Maybe someone
with more knowledge about the develoment of Samba can give me a hint:

Synology shares not accessible...
Hallo,
just my 2 cents: So Samba 4.12 works, but 4.13+ doesnt?
Maybe you can use the same strategy here as used for Win XP or older OS:
Setup an isolated (virtualized?) DC with samba 4.12 just for the
synology to connect to? You could use firewalld/ufw rules to only allow
traffic to the samba ports from one single source IP-adress (the
synology) to limit the exposure...
Just until synology

smbclient: invalid mid from server! ???
Hi,
our backup program regularly invokes smbclient to generate a tar-file
from an NT-Workstation share. What it does is
/usr/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\maclaurin\\maclaurin password -U backup -E -W MATH -d3 -Tc - > maclaurin.tar
Now this is the output:
Client started (version 2.0.6).

List of magic wins numbers
Hi,
I am looking for a list of theses special magic numbers that a samba
server (or a windows box) registers with at a wins server.
I already know of <00> as a ordinary name, <1b> as a domain. But what's
the rest? Is there a list anywhere? Perhaps somewhere in the docs? I
have searched them but haven't found anything yet.
Thanks,
Christopher

Default Posix ACLs not honoured
Hi all,
we are experiencing difficulties with posix ACLs using samba 3.0.28 on a
Debian 4.0 etch server.
The goal is to not let the Windows clients manage the ACLs but instead set
the permissions from the Samba server, hence smb.conf says "nt acl support =
no".
Problems arise when I have a directory with default permissions for a named
group, e.g.
# file: ACLTest
# owner: juergen

Migration from tpop3d to dovecot - troubles galore!
Hi people,
I am trying to migrate some users from tpop3d (Maildir mailboxes) to
dovecot. The most important aspect of this migration, and which I
cannot seem to get right, is to first be able to make dovecot to
authenticate against the current DB being used by tpop3d so that
I can use imapsync to transfer the user mails. And I do believe
that is what I am unable to get right!!
So here goes what
