WINE and USB access
Hi All,
I am working with a local middle school to replace Windows PCs with Linux PCs.
I am new to this list but have been trying to use WINE for a while.
We have a major problem that we can't seem to figure out.
We are trying to use WINE with a software called Data Studio from Pasco Scientific ref: http://www.pasco.com/datastudio/home.html .
Pasco makes a scientific data probe, the Pasport

Samba troubles
Hi,
I have not yet found any solution to my troubles so I though maybe
someone here could give me some help.
We have a Linux server with a Scsi Raid 5 disk. We use it as Samba and
Nfs server for Windows and Linux clients. It also exports through Samba
a disk mounted through Nfs from another Linux server.
Everything was working fine until we uppgraded the server to RedHat 7.2.
Now, after e few

ext3 crash after RedHat 7.2 installation
Hi everyone,
I've been running Redhat 7.2 (new install) for about 2 weeks now
without any problems, but today I was not so lucky.
My system hung while I was trying to configure the kernel-source RPM using
'xconfig'.
After rebooting the system, it seems that my whole ext3 file system is
corrupted.
I get the message:

RHEL 7.1 and Samba 4.1.12 partial success
I'm having issues with a couple of areas of Samba Setup.
I can see (from my Win 8.1 workstation) the shares for the server for my test share \\p30\download<file:///\\p30\download> and \\p30\bietz<file:///\\p30\bietz> my home folder.
I don't have permissions to access the folders and/or can't create or delete files.
I had an upgraded Active Directory domain from Windows

How does ext3 handle drive failures?
We want to run multi-drive systems we have in a JBOD mode, where
each drive is basically a filesystem to itself. With the drives
we currently have, we expect to have multiple failures, primarily
unrecoverable ECC read errors or sometimes the drive just dying
altogether.
How does ext[23] handle these two primary conditions? Using them
in a software RAID mode, I have sometimes seen problems with

Xen-unstable kernel panics on boot
I have compiled xen-unstable from source and I am unable to boot the
kernel that this creates. It appears to not be able to find my
logical volumes to mount the root volume. Shortly after this, the
kernel panics and the machine reboots.
Is there any option I can use when building the kernel to stop this
reboot after the panic so that I can find out what is causing it?

Samba pid in uninterruptible state
Greetings,
I recently upgraded Samba on an Ubuntu 14.04.2 server from version 4.1.9 to 4.2.3. Upon rebooting Samba process goes into a running state then after a short time it will go into an uninterruptible state. If I check the log.samba, it appears that it is attempting to start, then hangs at the following:
[2016/06/23 15:16:00.329503, 3] ../source4/param/share.c:124(share_register)

uninterruptible sleep with rsync 2.5.4
Hi,
I've encountered a strange issue, difficult to reproduce for
now. I'm searching from where it comes.
Here are some facts:
- all programs are compiled from sources using gcc 2.95.3/glibc2.2.x
and run on a i686 LFS linux system.
- rsync doesn't run above ssl.
- using rsync 2.5.4 as server to backup mailboxes on another computer.
rsync daemon is launched from xinetd, rsync

smbd mortality
I encountered a serious samba problem and want to publish details for public benefit.?
SLES 10 server running Samba 3.0.28 as domain controller, file and cups print server, running uneventfully for 2 years suddenly drops all users, load rapidly grows to about 250 and becomes unresponsive. smbstatus reveals that every user has about 10 instances of smbd instead of one. ext3 support in redhat 6.2
I am trying to upgrade the partitions on my redhat 6.2 installation to ext3.
I've upgraded the kernel to 2.2.20 (which includes support for ext3), and in
order to create the journal, I believe I also have to update e2fsprogs to
version 1.26.
My problem has been this...e2fsprogs-1.26-1.71.i386.rpm requires glibc2.2,
and I can not get glibc2.2 to install - I get dependency conflicts with the
