readline, 64bit solaris build
I've built a 64bit version of R 1.9.1 on a solaris 2.9 sparc system.
Everything
seems quite functional, except that readline produces the following:
> configure:21277: checking for rl_callback_read_char in -lreadline
> configure:21307: cc -xarch=v9 -o conftest -xO5 -xlibmil -dalign
> -I/usr/local/include -L/us
> r/local/lib conftest.c -lreadline -ldl -ltermcap -lm >&5

Trouble building Samba 2.2.5 of Solaris 9
Looks like inet_aton has cropped up again, in libsmbclient.c:
if (!inet_aton(server, &rem_ip)) {
DEBUG(4, ("Could not convert IP address %s to struct in_addr\n",
server));
errno = ENOENT;
return NULL;
}
This function doesn't exist in Solaris, and causes this shared library
to fail to link, when called by other programs (notably KDE 3):

configure problem --- Can't find recent OpenSSL libcrypto
Hello Gurus,
I tried my best as I can to do RTFM and Googling to find any information to
solve the problem myself which I failed.
I installed OpenSSL 0.9.6d 9 May 2002 with this option on a Solaris 8 box
using Sun Forte6-2
$config solaris64-sparcv9-cc --prefix=/local/santanu/pkg/ssl
Now I am trying to install openssh 3.2.3p1 and getting this error.

fortran compile problem with R-1.1.0
Hello List,
Knowing I would eventually need to ask for help on the list, I've held
off my thanks and congratulations on the 1.+ releases of R. I am amazed
at the dedication of the R-core team, and do add my applause and thanks.
I've had a compile problem with the latest version which has not
occurred before. I'm compiling under:

[patch] ./configure problem on Solaris with Sun's CC
Hi,
I have a problem with tftpd-hpa on Solaris-8, in that the configure
script cannot find the regex engine.
This is because of the following in configure.in:

AC_SEARCH_LIBS(xstrdup, iberty, , LIBXTRA=true AC_LIBOBJ(xstrdup))

rl_callback_read_char error on Solaris 7
This question is about compiling R-1.6.2 from source on a
Sparcstation-20 machine running Solaris 7, gcc-2.95.3 and
readline-4.2 (both gcc and readline from sunfreeware.com).
I searched the r-help archive and the FAQ. The errors seem to be
related to the binary readline libraries, and I have
/usr/local/lib/libreadline.a,libreadline.so@, and
libreadline.so.4.
The attached errors are from

Unable to compile dovecot with Solaris 9 and Forte C
Just a "heads up".
I tried to search mailinglist archives and wiki, but found no similar
configurations.
Dovecot is unbuildable with the following configuration:

Unable to compile Samba 3.5.6 on Solaris 9 - more winbind issues
Greetings,
No helpful hints have been offered to my winbind issues with Samba 3.4.9
and Solaris 9 I started trying to build Samba 3.5.6. Using gcc 3.4.6.
I added "-lintl" to the LIBS option in the Makefile which cleared some
earlier linker errors involving libintl_gettext, libintl_textdomain and
libintl_bindtextdomain being undefined, except with winbind:
