Problems connecting to samba shares from w2k or XP system after configuring smb.conf file...
I modified my smb.conf file according to an old doc I found online and
I'm having problems logging in from either of my XP or NT boxes to
access the shares on the linux box. I can see the samba linux server in
My Network Places. I get the following error if trying to connect after
navigating to it from My Network Places:
\\lnxwebsrvr is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use

Unable to run SWAT
I'm trying to learn Samba on a Linux 7.0 box. I've just installed Samba
2.0.7. I've been able to run all the tests in DIAGNOSIS.TXT, manually
edit the smb.conf file, and I can even see some folders on the Samba
server from a Windows 98 machine on my LAN. But I am unable to run SWAT
on the Samba Server (or from any other computer on my LAN). Every time
I enter http://localhost:901/

having trouble building r-devel
Dear R-devel
On my Windows 2000 machine, I can build R-patched but not R-devel (since at least 1/9/2004). An error message pops up during the execution of some R code during "make", as below. In terms of "make" etc., I am totally clueless (not being a user of either Linux or C) and just mechanically follow the instructions in the R documentation; hence I've got no idea

PSTN Incoming call on real line disrupts VoIP call over DSL circuit
I haven't seen anything this strange, and it's 100% reproducible. I'm
hoping that there are some clever ideas out there for what to look for,
since I can test to my heart's desire on this one...
My Dad lives in Florida, and has a Bellsouth DSL line. Of course, he has
a regular POTS line connected on the same line. He has the appropriate
filters on every jack that has a phone

using ldap only idmap
Hi,
I'm trying to make a "pure ldap" setup, whereas users, groups, id
mappings and everything that is supported with LDAP be in the LDAP tree
and managed directly by samba.
That is, I'm using:
ldapsam:trusted = yes
ldapsam:editposix = yes
And NOT using smbldap-*.
My smb.conf is here: http://wiki.clueless.com.ar/SambaLdap/smb.conf-PDC
I created the LDAP tree root

newbie problem: can't mount win xp disk into linux (regkey is set)
Got two machines connected via a 10MBit Hub:
One Slackware Linux 8.1 with eth0 = Realtek8139 (working fine),
one WindowsXP Pro, same NIC, registry key for proper auth is set.
The Windows machine is called xerxes on which the C dir is shared, and there
is /mnt/xerxes/ on the Linux box.
The command:
# mount -t smbfs -o username=(username on win machine),password=(passwd on win
# machine)

Samba connection problem btw RH7.3 and WinME
Hi All Guys,
I just join this list
I am going to experiment a crossover connection
between a WinME box and a RH7.3 Box. The setting of
WinME is without problem. It can communicate with
another WinME box or a WinXP box with crossover
connection. I don't use password to login in both
boxes
I have Samba-2.2.3a running on a RH7.3 box
#service smb start/stop
Everything OK without complaint

samba, RH7.3 and windows NT/2K/XP problem?
Hi,
We have a couple of RH7.3 systems. Both have samba installed and they
were running well before. Now, one system's samba shows a problem after
the system rebooting yesterday. Samba is still running and all windows
95, 98 users can access this RH7.3 system without any problem, but
windows NT/2000/XP users cannot access it now. Before the rebooting, all
windows (including nt/2k/xp)

Configuring an Intel 3945 wireless card: partial success
Hi,
My wife has a new ASUS laptop with an Intel 3945 wireless card. I'm
running CentOS 5 on all our desktops here (at work and at home), and I'm
quite happy with it. I had a partial success in configuring the wireless
card.
Basically I'm using [base], [updates], [extra] and [rpmforge] repos,
configured with the yum-priorities plugin. Priority 10 for RPMForge, 1
for the others.

Newbie Question: I want to open a socket on another server
Help!
I need someone to get me in the right ballpark. I''ve been going around
in circles for the last 24 hours.
I want to open a TCPsocket on another server and eventually send and
receive XML which is what the other servers speaks.
I have both "Agile Web...with Ruby" and "Programming Ruby" but can find
no examples. I''ve poured over the forum list, too.

HDD duplication in RH7.3
Hi Folks,
I have an internal HDD running under RH7.3. I would like to purchse a second HDD(usb external) of same geometry, and use it as a bootable snapshot of the first internal HDD.
I wish to make a whole disk bootable backup regularly via this method.
Is this feasible ?
How should I approach this ?
Any advice and/or documentations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

rh7.3/samba as PDC
I have been working with samba trying to get PDC functionality out of it. I
tried first - version 3 from samba.org then I tried the samba that comes
with
rh7.3 and the last version I have been trying to get to work is the latest
samba-tng.
It has been straight forward getting file sharing to work, but the PDC part
just won't work. I can manaully create a machine account on the linux box

Newbie Question: HOWTO make outgoing call on SIP account from internal extensions?
Over the past 2 weeks I have been able to compile and get an asterisk
system up
& running on a debian Linux box.
I have setup 5 internal sip clients on the lan and all works great!
I can also call from outside (PSTN) into the system and reach extensions
and
services no problem.
All is up & running behind a nat firewall with proper ports forwarded and
locked down on each device to work

sort or order problem.
Thanks to everyone who helped me when I was totally clueless. Now I'm only
partially clueless, and in writing functions, which is major progress.
This is a function that is a major improvement over which I was using MS
Excel for:
function()
{
files <- list.files(pattern="ABN*") # All the models start with the letters
ABN
for( i in 1:length(files)) # loop through the
