Samba 2.5 PDC + WinXP problem
Hey ppl !
My WinXP workstations are not able to join my domain. I tried to apply the registry fix for plain-text passwords but it has no effects :(
My PDC seems to work fine cause i've got no problems with Win2K Workstations...
Is there anything i've omitted ?
Regards,
Amaury

Monitor does not like variable subsitutions
Hello,
I have been attempting to get the Monitor function to
accept a loal variable substitution in order to use
the same filename later in the same context. Monitor
does not appear to like it, as it attempts to use
wav|filename as the recording type, as opposed to just
wav.
Here is what I get if I just supply a filename
directly (it works fine):

Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?)
Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses.
Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be
an annoyance.
I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf
but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who
stores valid executables in

VOICEMAIL OPTIONS help needed
Hi everyone,
We have a particular user on our Asterisk 1.4.x system who always
listens to his voicemail messages via email.
- Is there some way to send the voicemail ONLY to email and not retain
them on the phone?
- Alternatively, can the voicemail system only keep, say, just the
last 10 messages (as backup in case of email delivery failure or a
message getting deleted in email accidentally

Samba Domain Emu
Hi
I have read that Samba can emulate an NT Domain. Is this still possible?
I dont see much about it listed anymore. Is it still supported in
2.2.8a. Does anyone have any information concerning this? We would like
our version to do this so we can do some testing with one of our NetApp
880's.

Configuring Samba
I am still having some troubles getting samba to work.
I have installed samba and it seems to be fine from the server point of
view. However, my client can see the server in the Network neighborhood,
but I get network path not found.
The server and the client are on different sub-nets.
Both the client and the server are using DNS to resolve names. Both are
resolvable. They use FTP between

No new daily R-devel tarball since r69202?
Is there any reason that the R-devel tarball at [1] stucks on r69202?
It seems, that newer R-devel versions are now published on
/pub/misc/cran/src/base-prerelease, for example at
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/cran/, but without an R-devel.tar.gz
tarball ...
Is this intended? Any clarification would be appreciated.
Thanks and greetings,
Rainer Hurling

samba problem on Mandrake 9.0
Happy New Year to everyone:
I have followed the instructions at shorewall.net/samba.htm. I''ve
restarted the samba server, shorewall, rebooted, everything. And from my
network I cannot browse available shares on the firewall (192.168.1.1)
telnet 192.168.1.1 138 fails with connection refused, which I don''t
understand. All other open ports respond with a string.

Tabulating using arbitrary numbers of factors
Dear R-help,
First of all, thank you VERY much for any help you have time to offer. I
greatly appreciate it.
I would like to write a function that, given an arbitrary number of factors
from a data frame, tabulates the number of occurrences of each unique
combination of the factors. Cleary, this works:

New X crappy for older stuff?
While burning in a new desktop Epox KT-880 workstation, I'm running on
my old K6-III at 360MHz. Before new X updates (put everything in today,
kernel, elfutils, ntpd - Selinux issues? - xorg, ...) with my PCI ATI
7000 (Radeon) on a 19" Samsung 950b @ 1024x768 (one of 5 different
resolutions I commonly use), I could scroll smoothly at reasonable
rates.
With the new stuff I get severe

2 (Suse), one NT 4 server machine and 5 user databases???
I currently have a setup of 1 NT 4.0 PDC server and to SUSE boxes
sharing via a samba share. I seem to have to make 5 different
usename/password databases. 1 for NT, 2 for each SuSe box (One Linux
and one Samba). Is there a way to have 1 or maybe two databases to
update? I've read about LDAP on other connections but I'm a little
confused as to what is the best approach.

Windows 95, encrypted passwords, and secure channel communications
First of all, let me say "I know it's been fixed in Samba 3." That's
for those of you who think I'm talking about the requiresignorseal
registry hack in Windows XP. I'm not.
I ran into an issue when using Windows 95 clients with a Windows 2003
server. (Why not Samba? The customer needs terminal services for some
windows-only programs.) Because Windows 2003, by policy,

How serious are we about not wanting to see...
Personally, I am agnostic. I've just read thru Centos documentation that
there is a big effort to remove all upstream personalities from Centos.
Personally, I don't see why RH is doing this. I would think that it
undermines RH. But I'm still new/old to all of this. It used to be the big
argument was between Unix from Berkeley(4.? I think) and SysIII/V. Always
always battles for turf.

Can't use mount command with samba
I have a home network based on Win XP Pro, with one Linux machine
running Red Hat 9. All updates have been applied. There's no domain
controller.
I can connect from the Linux machine to the XP machines via Konqueror
using
smb://mymachine/myshare
However, I can't use the mount command.
I'm trying to use syntax like
mount -t smbfs -o username=myname,password=mypwd //192.168.0.1

2nd printer won't print
Good morning,
I would appreciate some help. SAMBA is new turf. I am working out of a
John Blair Book SAMBA: Integrating UNIX and Windows 1998
PROBLEM: unable to print to the 2nd of two printers on a samba host.
ENVIRONMENT:
-4 systems in a home network; connected to an HP hub (10 meg)
-3 systems run Red Hat linux 9.0 (system names: snoopy, white, olblue)
-4th system runs Windows 2000
