Unix password Sync
Ive just discovered that my previous email is wrong - the password sync does in fact work under Solaris fine. What is happening however is that when I create a new account, and call smbpasswd $user as root, it only updates the SMB password and not the Unix password as well. I though I could change my call to /bin/passwd in my new user creation scrip with /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a, but as

Password is not set / blank, but they still get: >test> smbpasswd >Old SMB password: <enter> >New SMB password: Samba >Retype new SMB password: Samba >machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The >specified

Filelist caching
Hi, I've noticed every time someone does an rsync-request on my ftp-site (which also provides rsync as mirror method), rsyncd creates a filelist. This is a quite IO and CPU intensive procedure, especially for things mirrors like FreeBSD with lots of little files. I was wondering... is there a way to cache that filelist? Our mirrors are updated once, or twice a day, it could speed up

unix password sync not working
Hi, I have a samba server configured with SECURITY=USER and am having trouble getting the UNIX PASSWORD SYNC to work. When I use smbpasswd to change a samba user password, everything goes well and the samba password is changed but the unix password is not changed. Per the manuals, samba trys to change the unix password first and if it fails, it will NOT change the samba password. However, the

Hi all, Sorry if this has been answered before, but I've searched Google and the archives and it hasn't revealed an answer to my problem. samba very slow
Hi, I'm using FreeBSD 4.8 and samba 2.2.8 on a Pentium 2 (dual processor, 600 MHz, 512 MB memory) and at this moment everything is working, but I've one serious problem: I've made an filesystem /data with some shares like /public, /temp, /projects etc. I'm now copying a 170 MB file from my local harddisk to a samba share. Normally this should take less then 30 seconds, at

passwd not running as root
Hi all, I posted a message about this problem a couple of weeks ago without a response so I'm trying again. My problem is that samba does not seem to be running passwd as root when it tries to sync the passwords. For example, when I run smbpasswd as a user logged onto the samba box I get the following error: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified

Changing passwd as ordinary user
Dear all, when I try to change my password as ordinary user using "smbpasswd", I get the following error message: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid. I'm sure my old password is correct and the new password also. If I change the ordinary user password as root, everything works fine... I would appreciate your help,
