Huge delays on login/first access from WinXP clients on samba 3.0.4 PDC
Hi *, after upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.4, I'm suffering from ~10 min. delays on login/first access of a share from a WinXPpro client to a samba 3.0.4 PDC (SuSE 9.0). This is printed in the logs: [2004/06/16 11:58:20, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(288) setting sec ctx (0, 0) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0 [2004/06/16 11:59:20, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(288) setting sec ctx (0, 0) -

Linux export always RO to PC no matter what
I'm sure this is a question asked many times before, but before I'm flamed, let me state that I've spent TWO WEEKS researching and testing this problem. I've read so many "How To's," forum postings, news groups, and "official docs," I should be an expert on Samba by now. It's obscene. I have an external USB drive - Western Digital 160GB USB 2.0 -

Source package installation for WinXPpro
Hi I d like to compile the source code from last Affy package for WinXPpro under R18beta however the doc is pretty poor regarding this process... I went to FAQ R Win then to http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ and downloaded in The essentials, tools and Perl 5.8.0, then MingW from www.mingw.org and I wonder if I need any other stuff from this page ? how to get the GUI directory chooser on Windows?
Dear R-help, Can anyone tell me if it's possible to call up the "directory chooser" (the one you get when you click on "File" -> "Change Dir...") in Rgui from the R command line? Seems like file.choose() can't be used to choose a directory. This is in R-1.8.1 on WinXPPro. Any help much appreciated! Andy

Windows XP Service Pack 1
I have a BSD system that I installed samba 2.2.7a onto. Smbd and nmbd both work great but if I try to use smbclient to connect to a WinXPpro (service pack 1) machine like this: smbclient //BO/C$ password -I 207.x.x.x -U Administrator -W NETENG -n HOMER I keep getting NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. I put a sniffer on the XP Pro machine and see the NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE message. Is there a problem

XP SP2 and slow logins/offline files sync: RPC changes?
I posted a while back (twice, actually), about some long delays with offline files sync and, to a lesser extent, domain logins with Windows XP SP2. This is Samba 3.0.7 (ldapsam backend) on Mandrakelinux 9.2 and 10.0, with XP SP1 clients. I make use of WINS and everything works fine for SP1 clients. Here's what I found since then: after the client is joined to the Samba (NT) domain,

R2HTML package and Open Office: text only pasted
I am trying to use R2HTML (just downloaded from CRAN) to paste R (2.6.0) results output via the clipboard to OpenOffice Writer and Calc (version 2.3on WinXPPro) Pasting into Excel gives a formatted table of results (as expected), but pasting into Calc simply pastes the HTML code. Trying paste special only gives an option to paste unformatted text. Equally, with Writer, in the past when I tried

can I have a matrix of factors, please?
Dear R-help, Is it a violation of the S language to have a matrix of factors? What I would like to have is just a factor object that has dim attribute, and can be printed (and subsetted) like a matrix; i.e., all columns/rows have the identical levels. However, I can't get it to work: > x <- factor(sample(2, 10, replace=TRUE)) > dim(x)<- c(5,2) > x [1] 1 2 2 1 2 1 1 1 2 1

need help debugging on Windows
Dear R-devel, Apologies for bothering y'all with this seemingly perennial question. A user reported problem with my most recent version of randomForest (4.4-1), and I was able to reproduce it with his data with R-2.0.0 patched (2004-10-24) on WinXP Pro. The problem is that it crashes R on Windows. However, it does not happen on Linux (tried SUSE ES8 on our Opterons and Quantian on my
