nmbd Hogging CPU on Mac OSX (10.5.4)
Hi All, Firstly, I know this is a MacOS X issue and not sure if you guys can help, but I'm really hoping you can since I don't appear to be getting any joy elsewhere. Running OSX 10.5.4 and recently (last week) nmbd is hogging the CPU. I know this is a part of the Samba server on OSX, hence the post to this mail-list. When I disconnect from the network, nmbd goes away and doesn't

Samba as a DC
Hey there, I have configured samba to behave as a DC "by the book" (by the howto in fact...). Everything seems to work fine, I am using windows XP clients, I have changed the registry settings like the howto says, rebooted and then added the station. I have managed to log into the machine with a domain user and everything looked great, when I tried adding the domain user to the

Slow Directory Access after upgrade to 3.5.6
Upgraded to Samba 3.5.6 from 3.5.2. Samba is running as a standalone server on a box that was upgraded from Slackware 13.1 to Slackware 13.37. All Win XP Pro and Win 7 Pro clients can connect to the workgroup and browse shares and folders exactly as before; however, many complain of intermittent pauses, slowdowns and "Not Responding" messages when traversing directories. The samba server

Cannot Sync Browser Lists
I run an IPsec/Freeswan VPN to connect 4 disparet windows LANS. I managed to RTFM until cross-subnet browsing worked (samba 2.0). Having upgraded to 2.2.3 It would seem that this feature is not working. BACKGROUND: originally all sources of information led me to understand that I would need a box running samba behind the firewall/IPsec box as I could not even ping a remote internal IP from the

Hello there, In OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 there is a strange name resolving bug: /etc/nsswitch.conf shows: hosts: files dns When I am trying to connect to a host that is in /etc/hosts using the hostname, ssh tries to first resolve this name using the dns, regardless to the resolve order in /etc/nsswitch.conf, if the dns is timeout or the machine is not connected to the Internet at this time -

Can't find samba server after new NIC installed
Hi All, Perhaps you guys can help me shed some light on this 'problem' I'm facing. I recently added another NIC to my samba server. eth0(10.0.0.251) and eth1(valid dhcp address) ETH0 was added to connect to another PC that acts as the backup server. (dedicated connection) Now, Samba won't come back up.. I can still ssh into the server and all. Any ideas? I know that the wins

Help troubleshooting "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" on SMB v4?
I'm running smbd -V Version 4.1.0rc2-3.1-3075-SUSE-oS12.3-x86_64 This is a standalone server, and the only SMB/CIFS instance on my LAN. On launch, I see the following "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" error in logs. I can't track down what I've managed to do wrong; pointers appreciated. ==> log.nmbd <== [2013/09/07 16:21:41, 2]

browse list problems continued.
Hello, Thanks for all the help so far. I've got nmbd and smbd so they're running now, not being blocked out by my firewall however nmbd is still unable to sync browse lists with my domain master browser, which i don't have as i'm in a workgroup and i'd like samba to be the master browser. I have enabled wins support see smb.conf below. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Question about KDC Resolution with Samba
> nslookup -type=SRV _kerberos._tcp.mycorp.com > > ** server can't find _kerberos._tcp.mycorp.com: NXDOMAIN > As 'hostname -d' is returning 'mycorp.com' it would seem that is the dns domain your computer is in. 'mycorp.com' != 'wgname.ad.mycorp.com' (which appears to be the dns domain of your DC) and Samba does not do subdomains or to put it

samba synchronization of browse lists.
Hello, I just installed samba 2.2.3a on my FreeBSD 4.4 box and am trying to connect to it using my win2ksp2 machine. I've got it set up to be the local master browser in my workgroup for my internal network. However it's not working. I checked the logs and in log.nmbd it's trying to bind to a domain master browser for the browse lists, which i obviously don't have. Is this a new

Logging out OpenSSH while there is a running job on the background
Hello there. Sorry for bothering you regarding this, but I am really looking for a solution to this problem, maybe you saw it in the SSH mailing list... but just in case... I remember you tried helping me once... If you could at least tell me who should ask regarding this issue, that would be quite a nice start... Name Resolving bug in Open SSH 3.0.2 (Addendum)
Almost forgot... I already reported this but a few months ago when I was using openSSH 2.9x, it's the same bug. And no - it's not the server end that is stalling me on a revese lookup: 1. I was doing ssh localhost, localhost resolves perfectly, the same for 127.0.0.1 (reverse) 2. ssh -v shows me: debug1: Reading configuration data /usr/local/etc/ssh_config debug1: Seeding random number
