samba.org Solaris binary is incompatible with Mac OS 10.2.x as client
More precisely what I've discovered is, at least in the cases of 2.2.8a and 3.0alpha22, when a 64-bit Samba is built with Sun's Forte compiler you'll end up with something incompatible with Mac OS 10.2.3. I always compile Samba myself with Sun's compiler to produce a 64-bit Samba. Well yesterday it came to my attention that Mac OS 10.2.x doesn't work with whats on my main

Samba on Solaris 8
So I decided to dump Samba 2.2.0 on Solaris 8 due to the problems I had getting it to connect to Vista, so I installed Samba 3.4.2 as downloaded from Sunfreeware.com, with prereqs; krb5-1.7-sol8-sparc-local openssl-1.0.0-sol8-sparc-local libgcc-3.4.6-sol8-sparc-local popt-1.14-sol8-sparc-local libiconv-1.13.1-sol8-sparc-local readline-5.2-sol8-sparc-local

ssh-rand-helper probs
Hi all Am i doing this right? Is this the right list to post to? If not, a quick lesson in ettiquette for me would not hurt. As I am both just starting to use newsgroups and SSH, I am not entirely familiar with the processes. I have a question about ssh-rand-helper. First an outline: I am currently using the SSH packages for Solaris 2.8 available at sunfreeware.com. The environment is

Expired passwords on Solaris with PAM
I've been doing so more tests with 2.9.9p2 on Sol8. Here are my finding so far: When a user needs to change his password and trys to run a command in non-interactive mode, it just succeeds without even trying to prompt the user for a new password. Damien submitted a fix - it works for me (is it going into CVS?). When a user needs to change his password and trys to login in interactive

Smaller code on these testcases is often a sign of miscompilation rather than optimization. For example, http://embed.cs.utah.edu/embarrassing/src_harvested_dec_09/076389.c is miscompiled on GCC 3.4 and SunCC

New password echoes on Sol8
I tried replacing readpassphrase() for v2.9.9p2 on Sol8 with a different version that just calls getpassphrase(). It appears to solve the echo problem when the user tries to login in interactive mode and needs to change their password. Can anyone else try this with v2.9.9p2 on Solaris? Be sure to add: #define HAVE_GETPASSPHRASE ... to config.h when compiling (since it's not a configurable

PAM session cleanup on Sol8 with v2.9.9p2
In do_pam_cleanup_proc(), there are 3 calls to PAM: 1) pam_close_session() - do lastlog stuff 2) pam_setcred(PAM_DELETE_CRED) - delete credentials 3) pam_end() - close PAM It appears that pam_setcred() always fails with the error PAM_PERM_DENIED. This is due to a check done pam_unix.so to not allow a caller with euid 0 to even try to delete their SECURE_RPC credentials. When sshd calls

Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member. I took the precompiled 64-bit Package (samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine. I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

Will OpenSSH fallback to internal PRNG?
Greetings. I'm wondering if OpenSSH automatically falls back to the internal PRNG (such as used on Solaris) when it can't use a better alternative. The reason I ask is this: the machine I am compiling OpenSSH on has the /dev/random patch for Solaris 8. I'd like OpenSSH to use /dev/random whenever possible, if it exists. However, I'd prefer NOT to have to compile a separate

openssh 3.2.2p1 problem on Solaris
I have compiled openssh with the Sun compiler, for the first time :) Installed it on my Solaris 8 box, restarted sshd, and connected to localhost. It works, basically, but I get ... debug1: Entering interactive session. Warning: no access to tty (Inappropriate ioctl for device). Thus no job control in this shell. and also May 20 18:01:01 localhost sshd[5753]: error: open /dev/tty failed -

Samba: 32 or 64 bit
All Due to an application issue I need to let app support know whether the version of Samba we are running is 32 or 64 bit. We are running Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (64 bit mode). Aplogies if this is really obvious but I have looked many places with no luck. It was installed from a file containing Solaris packages - samba-2.2.8-sol8-sparc-local.gz Screenshot of pkginfo:-
