Printers Always Paused - A Solution
I had a problem with Samba 2.2.5 with the printers being permanantly paused to Windows machines. They could print OK - it was only the status that was wrong. The reason for this was because I had used the word office in the printer name / comment. This was causing the parser which recognises the printer status to find 'off' pausing the printer. A quick fix for this is to replace the

XP clients & inexplicable pauses
Hi folks, I recently upgraded two client/server pairs to WinXP and Samba 2.2.6 (on Linux). Browsing mounted shares causes hangs when right-clicking or double-clicking/ launching files -- about 15 seconds. During this, precious little network activity is occuring. Something is hanging, locking, sleeping. Appreciate any advice. Hope it's a simple fix. If not, I'd appreciate advice on

Exclude & --delete not working?
Hi there, we have an odd problem, which maybe how rsync is intended to work, but I think not: On server side, we run rsync in daemon mode with a share [foo] that has a serverside path of /foo. On client side, we invoke rsync -zavuSH --delete server::foo/ /foo. The rsync daemon uses an exclusion list. The problem is, the client rsync deletes clientside whatever is in the exclusionlist. If I read

Paradox
Anyone on the list using a Paradox database on a Samba server? I'm after any performance tweaks which might speed up accessing data in a particular application (Q-Pulse, just in case anyone's heard of it). Any smb.conf tweaks in general which have made a proven speed improvement would be welcomed. TIA Jon.

Paradox on a Samba share
I've been trying to get a program that uses Paradox databases over Samba shares set up for a company here and I'm smashing my head into a wall. This is a custom application written with Delphi/BDE accessing Paradox tables on a network share. Previously they used Netware and all was glorious until the box died, since they're version of Netware was bootlegged ages ago I decided to

Paradox 16 bit crashes with page fault
Hi! I was able to install my good old Paradox 5, a 16-bit application. But when I start it, it crashes after some (correct) Dialogboxes with that trace: > wine 'C:\Programme\PDOXWIN\PDOXWIN.EXE' wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0x11f7:0x00000f02 (thread 0018), starting debugger... How to run a Paradox Game (Victoria/HoI2: Doomsday)
Does anyone know how to do this, I've copied both DD/Arma and Ricky to a directory in my home folder, and try to run it with a command: wine '/home/myaccount/.wine_c/program files/paradox/doomsday/doomsday.exe' But i just get errors saying things like "Can't find country.csv" etc. I had installed both games on my windows machine, and simply copied the install

MANOVA power, degrees of freedom, and RAO's paradox
Hi, I have a nested unbalanced data set of four correlated variables. When I do univariate analyses, my factor of interest is significant or marginally significant with all of the variables. Small effect size but always in the same direction. If I do a MANOVA instead (because the variables are not independent!) then my factor is far from being significant. How does that come about? I have

paradox about the degree of freedom in a logistic regression model
Dear all: "predict.glm" provides an example to perform logistic regression when the response variable is a tow-columned matrix. I find some paradox about the degree of freedom . > summary(budworm.lg) Call: glm(formula = SF ~ sex * ldose, family = binomial) Deviance Residuals: Min 1Q Median 3Q Max -1.39849 -0.32094 -0.07592 0.38220 1.10375

Slow Access Database on Samba
Dear All, We have an access database running on a Samba share (Samba version 3.0.10-1.4E) with a gigabit connection to the network. The front end of the databases are on the client machines with linked tables stored in a separate mdb file on the linux server. For some reason the database runs very slowly when it is set up in this way. I tested copying a 10 MB file onto the samba share and it

Locks troubles with samba 2.2.2/.3a
Hi, I just install 2.2.2 in a Red Hat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.16 on ext 3 + lvm. The problem are the locks!!!!!! I've 5 users working in .dbf + cdx (foxpro) files with an 16 bits application. It accesses to the files via DAO 2.0. A lot of times in the days the users gets 'currently locked' messages when the application open the dbf's files with read only access! I desactivated the

win95 & NT4 concurent access to paradox database
Hi, I use samba for one year only, but with full satisfaction. Only with latest cvs tree I discovered some (maybe particular) problem. In mixed environment of win95oemII and NT4 workst (sp3 or sp4) we share some Paradox 7.0 database on linux server (Rh5.2 and 2.2.0-pre1 kernel). Paradox controls multiuser access to the data with three files: PDOXUSRS.NET (user names etc?), and two lock files,

Paradox 9 runtime
I'm interested in moving a client-server application written partially in Paradox 9 onto an all linux platform. The server is Interbase, so that was an easy transition thanks to IBPhoenix. However, the client requires the Paradox 9 runtime which isn't available on Linux. Wine seems like a possibility, but I can't find any evidence of anyone trying it, successful or not. Has anyone out

Samba vs. Paradox
Hello list, i have problems using paradox tables (Paradox Level 5) via BDE (4.01 and 3.02) on my linux server, but their performance is very slow. At current, i'm using Samba 1.9.17p2 (and yes, i know this is not the current version, upgrad is planned). The configuration is very passive (locking for multiuser access to tables, direct write to disk). Does anybody have a suggestion on how

Novell NetWare 3.2 + Paradox => slow Samba
Hi Jim, Does the Novell NetWare 3.2 server that you are trying to replace with Samba have any NLM's loaded to implement B-Tree lookups? If so, B-Tree processing is done on the Novell server without generating a lot of network I/O. In order to get the same kind of client - server performance, you would have to run some Paradox compatible server software on the Samba box. Thanks, Gary
